Brad Hill injured his quad at training and is in doubt for round 1.

Don't want this to come across the wrong way but I feel like aboriginal players seem to be more prone to soft tissue injuries and often struggle to put 22 games together. Anyone else think this or am I crazy?
Hmmmm Brad Hill hasn't had any real injuries issues in the past.. I wouldn't say it's a trend or anything.

I think it's just a coincidence.

The other side is there is no Tippett. Expect Reid at FF rather than Buddy.

Will ckeck at some stage if the two games Reid helped out in the ruck, was Tippett playing or was Reid third tall.
There was only two games in 2017 where Sinclair played without Naismith AND Tippett and both games Reid helped out in the ruck.

Cheers mate.

Geez if Ross picked Bennell in Round 1 I think I would pick him ahead of Bundy.

Seriously hope he has got his head right , calf fixed and can play some football.

Such a talent.

G'day mate

I posted in the rucks section

17/22 was 2 out of Naismith/Sinclair/Tippett

Naismith was solo 3 times (Reid & Towers played all games)
Sinclair was solo 2 times (with Reid , but no Towers)

If they want a more mobile setup (especially at the SCG) they could just go Sinclair with support from Aliir , Reid & Towers.

or do a Doggies and find their own Lin Jong.

From what i read Bennell needs to mend bridges with the coaches and his team mates and so is a proposition for later in the year only. Is that your view?

Josh Kennedy in an interview from yesterday saying Round 1 is going to be a stretch for his return, and Round 2 or 3 is more likely.

Should mean Jake Waterman debuts and gets a few games but might struggle once JK does get back.
hey LITS

is this injury related to the one he had last season ?

I remember that was a 1 week injury as well that lingered a lot longer.

Depending on how Nic Nat is , do you still think Waterman will debut or would they go McInness as a option for JJK and help out Lycett ?

There was an article published back in 2014 I think from Stanford University department of developmental biology and genetics. It basically says that our DNA is partially responsible for being "injury prone" So if you have a blood relative who has suffered an ACL, hamstring tear, broken collarbone etc you're in some cases as high as 10x more likely to suffer the same injury yourself.

Theres definitely some validity in your observation, though probably not enough to blanket all the indigenous players with the same statement.

My view is that he has served his 8 week 'sentence' and has done all the club has asked of him and come back in really good shape and head space, other than the small calf issue that has been reported. So I think for all intents and purposes those bridges have been mended, it's now about getting a bit of match fitness which he will do with Peel...

This article gives a bit of context on the situation. So in terms of a time frame, if the calf is right to go, he'll play a few games with Peel and all going okay he'll be up for selection early in the AFL season I would think...

He had an ankle issue that caused him discomfort in the early stages of pre-season training so he went in and that cleaned up in December and has been on a modified program since then. Not sure if it is the exact same issue or a different one.

If Nic Nat doesn't play round 1 then I think McInnes gets a game replacing him and Waterman still plays. If NN does play, then I think Waterman replaces JK over McInnes.

Waterman came very close to a debut last year, and has been pretty impressive in the JLT game and derby.

Ok

I read a different article that came across a bit more hard line in that while getting fit was a key part of the deal that he also needed a period of time in the WAFL keeping his head straight.

Maybe that’s just the 3 games you mentioned. I took it as more because of his history of being an idiot for most of his time at Freo and surely being on his last chance.

Either way, it’s not going to be R1 by the looks.

Yeah JS the issue with Waterman so don't think I'll pick him if named round 1.

Where would you rate all the 'cheap' Eagles boys as far as JS goes?

So assuming all of Watson, Waterman, Rioli, Venables and Ryan play round 1, which guys do you think would be most likely to stay in the team? Probably a hard question but you're a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the Eagles.

Fire a question about the Demons to me in return if you wish and I'll do my best to answer! haha

you could be right mate, but either way, I don't think he'll be SC relevant for a little while yet, if at all given his injury history

Liam Ryan easily has the best JS of them all I think, No real competition for his spot. And should be a natural fit for our forward line.

Willie Rioli would probably be next with injuries being the main concern to him losing his spot. We need that crumbing that he provides.

Tom Cole would probably be next in line. Has only played 6 career games in 2 seasons but seems to have taken a significant step this pre-season and nabbed Sam Butler's old spot... Does have Jackson Nelson looking over his shoulder, But Cole's ball use is much better and a great pre-season where he has looked really composed down back should seem him get a real good run at it.

Venables probably next, Ah Chee going down certainly helps his cause so should see a good early run at it. His pace and ball use provides something we lack... He just needs to find more of the pill. He will a good shot at it this year.

Waterman is another to impress this pre-season. Should get a shot in the first few rounds thanks to JK's injury. But when he returns he might find it tough for regular games with JK, Darling and a resting ruck ahead of him.

Watson would be the least secure. Should see a few games this year but I don't see him playing round 1. With Hurn, Sheppard, Duggan, Yeo and now Jetta all coming off Half-Back... It's going to be really hard for him to break in. Have liked what I've seen from him though.

No worries.

The only Demon that's really making me think is Petracca, Has been in and out of my side numerous times. Love the way he plays, just like most people... Hope that this year he does see more midfield time and really have a break-out year. It will happen, It's just a matter of if it will be this year I guess.

In and out of my team too mate but I think the temptation as a Dees man will be too much and I'll end up starting with him.

He is a near certainty to get more midfield minutes and has improved on his endurance during the off-season so all indicators are that he is ready to breakout. Whether he does so or not is the 433k question!
