Help please.
My team is doing OK, not brilliant, and requires a little tweaking.
I have most of the good rookies, but would like to get Finlayson this week. Also, I am yet another with the Hibberd dilemma.
I am considering trading out Hibberd (under-scoring) and D.Smith (not played).
Via dpp, I can bring in Finlayson and Robbie Gray and pocket 19,600 also.
I would like to bring in Cogniglio, but to be honest, can not find an acceptable way to do so as all my centre line are doing well.
I see the trade of Hibberd to Gray as slightly sideways but it improves my forward line, doesn't harm the backline (at current scoring averages) and makes money.

Disclaimer: I am not the great Rowsus.

Apparently Devon Smith is a certainty to play this week. Given no trade out requirement, that shakes things up a bit. Can I suggest Hibberd > finlayson and underperforming mid rookie > coniglio? Net effect is a better performing rookie which should lead to more cash gen, and more points on field. Some may argue that move is too sideways to justify 2 trades - up to you to decide.

Think he means D. Smith of the Tigers variety.

Thanks for your time. I should have been more clear i my question. I mean to trade out the Richmond player, D.Smith, who is yet to play.

Thanks for the suggestions Rowsus. You really do have me thinking
Are you at all entertaining the idea of holding onto Lambert in hoping he comes good?
I have Sicily to deal with along with a couple of non-playing rookies.
I understand Sicily has BE 51 and Lambert 158 so I guess the intention is to make $ and improve squad through correction trades this week.
However part of me also thinks that Lambert maybe be better overall than Sicily. With Sicily suspension it leaves me fielding many rookies this week and Holman or Kelly will be benched for Coniglio.
Can you please talk me out of it to ensure I trade Lambert?
If I trade Lambert I will be forced to play 2-0-4 structure in fwd line this week. (Sicily, ZLangdon bench)
Cannot see Rayner, Garlett, Ryan, Fritsch all starring for me :(

Hi Rowsus,

Time to make my big move this week; considering the following trades:

Hibberd to either o Connor, English or waterman (via Sicily)

Bell to dusty

This will give me the big 3 in the middle of Titch, Dusty and Danger.

Out of the 3 rookies I mentioned in the downgrade for Hibberd, who would you take and why?
Hi Mm,
I'd take English.
O'Connor was a late in last week, which flags potential JS problems.
Waterman might lose his spot as soon as JJK is back ......... whenever that is!

Hi Row, hope your keeping well mate.

Curious as to your thoughts on Taranto, off-kilter PODs are generally right up your alley.

2 scores to start the year that were both higher than his ceiling last season and I’m unsure how to interpret that. There’s a genuine chance they may be his highest scores for the year but there’s also the chance he’s made a 30 point jump and has presented as aviable F5/6 for 360k.

I’m looking to him as a Petracca replacement, Petracca didn’t sit well with me all pre season and ended up in my side as the 15th selected “premium” I have no rookie corrections to do this week outside of ZGL who I may just ride out. My other trade is locked into replacing Crouch.

Should note as an aside that Trac - TT would leave me with 123k as my “Dangerfield buffer” while the rookie replacement would set it at 70k

To frame the question in a simpler manner, should I prioritise moving on the injured rookie, or correct a premium I’m uncomfortable with, and if the latter what are your expectations of Taranto as a break out candidate?

Cheers.
Hi Russ, I'm good thanks, I hope you are too.
My biggest problem with Taranto is, he's too expensive to be a successful Stepping Stone, so if you take him, it should be with the expectation that he becomes a Keeper. I just can't be confident that he'll manage that, and it seems to me he could easily end up a either a disappointment that gets traded out again, or a trap F6.
I think you have to decide about Taranto without involving Dangerfield in your thinking. The trade needs to stand by itself as a good decision, and it helping you to get a pathway to Dangerfield needs to be a by-product of the trade, not a part of the reason to do it.
I'd be more in the mind, that if you are going to ride out ZGL, then only do the Crouch trade this week.

Hi Rows.

Your expert opinion would be appreciated.

Players in my team who I am not that happy about:
Salem: Had high hopes for him but I think he has to go this week either up to Simmo or down to Bonner. What were your thoughts on him Row?
Bont and Treloar: Not an ideal start for these two but I think I will stick with them for now?
Menegola: All evidence pre season said not to start him, not sure why I did? He might have to go this week. Does not look like being a top forward with all the power Geelong have. Only 66 TOG last week.

Players who I don't have and should think about getting in:
Mitchell: Only started Dusty of the big 3, have to get him in sometime.
Danger: As above
Coniglio: Choosing not to start him seems like a mistake.
English: Chose McInerney for my R3 thinking he may get games.
Curnow: In my team all pre season
Lynch GC: In my team all pre season and is my fav player and I have started him the last couple of years. (Really disappointed I didn't start him this year) If I decide to trade Lynch in it seems like I am chasing last weeks points, but If say Dixon got a 180 I would not consider him.

My rookies are ok, probably only Bonner I've missed but he doesn't seem a must have.

So I can trade Salem to Simmo or down to Bonner and Menegola to any forward, my heart says Lynch, already have Heeney, Trac and Billings.
But this means missing Conigs. I can get Conigs via DPP Menegola/Fog/Garlett. Or should I be looking at one of the other big 3 (Danger or Mitchell)?

Thanks Rows.
Hi Juzzo,
I think your trade outs this week should be Salem and Menegola, who both have very little hope of becoming good selections from here. I wonder if the people that took Salem got sucked in by his CBA numbers in the JLT. I've said it before, and i'll say it again. It's an interesting stat to look at, but it's useless as far as SC selections go, as it all depends on what their role is at the CB!
Lynch isn't a must have, but apart from the better Rookies, Coniglio looks as close to a must have as we can have at this stage of the season. There seems to be little downside in grabbing him. We can't say that about many players.
As to whether Salem goes up or down, that's just a 50/50 call. If you're happy with your cash generation, maybe just grab Simmo.

You might be the exception.
I think Coniglio is nearly a must have, but he becomes your M8, and pushes Kelly to the bench, which isn't ideal.
If you decided to do that, it would be:
Hibberd out, Keeffe up to the Def line, Fogarty down to the Fwd line, Coniglio in.

When you start a bottom priced, not picked in Rnd 1 Rookie like D Smith, I tend to think, unless something extraordinary happens, you are just stuck with them. I'd just suck it up, and use him for loopholing purposes for now. It also seems strange that you started a not selected Keeffe, without a corresponding link in the Def line. Those two picks seem to serve no purpose, and it's generally not a good idea to pick unheralded Rookies, in the hope they'll soon play. But I digress.

Given your wishes, I think I'd go:
Hibberd to Finlayson, shift Murray to the bench with the E on him, and loophole Murray and Murphy via D Dmith.
Rayner to Gray.

I hope that helps, good luck whichever way you jump. :)

Will be left with structure of
3-0-5
5-2-3
2-0-5 (Sicily)
Lambert looks too big of a risk to hold for me. If he spuds it up again, he potentially drops $40k, and becomes really hard to fix.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Yes, basically, I panicked with the emergencies as I ran out of time to do the homework required. The result was having D.Smith and Keefe.
I had Gray in my team prior to his suspension, regret not being patient now.
Also agree with your choice of Rayner as any upside to keeping him seems a long time away.
Hibberd to Finlayson and Rayner to Gray it is!

Sound advice as always, much appreciated. What is your opinion on holding ZGL? The only viable replacements look to be Garlett and L. Murphy of the rookies I’m missing and neither fill me with swathes of confidence.

If you're confident holding him won't lead to a donut problem down the track, I think I'd hold him too. I just don't think you get the full value of a trade to either of the other two, over just holding ZGL.

Hi Rowsus.
Now that you are a year older, are you now more wiser? :p
Question 2. I'm just curious why you pick so many PODs. Is it because the popular players that are selected by the majority are so obvious to you that you find it boring, so you want a challenge? Do you find it more exciting to pick the right PODs, then winning $50K?
Another question, just curious again, what job do you do?
Seriously, you don't have to answer these questions, just curious.
I admire your knowledge of SuperCoach and really appreciate all the help you give to others, you are really a nice guy.

Hi Zim,
my thoughts on Hibberd fall into the following order:
Be creative, and go down to a cash generator, at the same time grab some cash from Hibberd.
Be creative, if you have a link, and turn him into a Mid or a Forward.
Keep him.
Side-swap him to a similar Def.
I'm looking to get Dusty ASAP so i have 2 of the big 3. I've been considering doing Hibberd and Dow to Murray and Dusty this week. I feel Murray is the only real decent rookie i didn't start with, however getting him would turn my defense to 2-0-6 (Laird and McGovern) and midfield would be 6-0-5 (Titch, Dusty, Kelly, Fyfe, Cripps and Coniglio). My concern is having just 2 keepers down back may leave me short in the weeks to come if a couple of rookies get dropped. What are your thoughts? I guess it falls into the be creative thinking...

I’m not sure if Rowsus is eligible for the $50k not being in Australia?? But maybe I’m confused with cricket? So my guess is he does it for the challenge of swimming against the tide and testing his theories?

It could be what is behind his generosity of sharing opinions and putting it all out there when some of us keep cards close to our chest ... problem is usually those cards don’t turn out to hold too much value in my hand, but I keep living in hope for some reason!

I am sure I am off track, but whatever your reasons Rowsus, we appreciate your sharing of knowledge, and I for one, look forward to seeing what trades you pull each week.

Thankyou Rowsus, I probably don’t say that as often as I should!

What about ZGL to English
