It's a pity Gaff is going to miss the first couple of weeks as I feel he's in for a massive year. These new starting position rules will favour a winger like him.
could be a decent POD to start if you can get a decent M9 score Round 1 ?

pretty sure a few used Gray as a donut last season in Round 1

like you said he will be hungry and will be hell bent on paying his team mates , coach and club back

Cats run so deep ..... Constable, Atkins, Clark, Fort ... who drops out for these guys ...
No idea. Clark the standout. Constable doing well. Atkins had a good first qtr but has been quiet since. Not sure Fort has had much impact so may not get early games. Stanley will be no.1 ruck from what I can see.

Thanks .. not really taking much notice of this game .. Clark in DEF isn't one I'd considered though ..

Interesting to think about ... not sure where I read it but teams rarely go back-to-back without at least 8 changes .... not saying it's right or that I beleive in it ... just food for thought ... but they already brought in some new faces last year which kinda makes it a scarey equation in some ways ...
Here is how I see our best 22 when fully fit...

B: Cole, Barrass, Jetta
HB: Shepard, Gov, Hurn
C: Gaff, Yeo, Sheed
HF: Cripps, Darling, Masten
F: Rioli, JK, Ryan
R: Nic Nat, Redden, Shuey
I: Vardy, Hutchings, Venables, Duggan

So when fit I can't see any way of getting 8 changes from last year. Obviously Nic Nat not back until mid season, Gaff comes straight back in in round 3, Shepard is back in from missing the GF. LeCras is the only retirement and free spot as Hickey should take Lycetts vacant ruck spot.

So at this stage we need to cover Gaff and Cripps for round 1 and Venables Might be the only other spot up for debate.

You don’t think JLT form has any carry over to the season proper? I generally try to look at roles and fitness only through the pre season games as like you said many players are just going through the motions.

In the case of Zerrett for me, his lack of continuity seems to have affected his fitness and, with so many other good picks around that price point, the risk vs reward scale looks to be leaning a bit to the risk side. Been in my side majority of the pre season so I’m loathe to leave him out but he’d need a strong showing in his next game to make it back into the side.
Not sure I agree with that, if a player looks a bit slow after an interrupted preseason....it’s just a risk not worth taking

Obviously if they come out in the 2nd one and dominate it can change your mind but Merrett didn’t look 100% and will be a lot better by round 1, but might not be at his best and might start the year averaging 100 the first 5 weeks. It’s a game of inches and everyone acts like someone being hesitant of starting a player with an interrupted preseason means they’re saying they’ll be terrible or will get injured straight away when what we’re actually saying is they’ll start a bit slower and will average 5-10 less than other options at the same price. Full fitness means optimal performance.

Who had their first uninterrupted preseason last year? Cripps. Whose preseasons were interrupted? Billings, Wingard, Kelly, Greene, Hurley, Neale
I am and was referring to well established players that we have't heard about having injuries or an interrupted pre season. As i mentioned, players knowing themselves, knowing what they need to do and in essence just having a run around

Yeah .. an unusual precedent with already having brought in multiple news faces and getting way with it IMO .... rules are always made to be broken IMO !! good looking lineup too with youth v experience ..

Yeah and that's not even mentioning our young guns like Brander, Oscar Allen, Watson, Cameron, Waterman who are fighting for games.

Last year was crucial in our list rejuvenation. We moved on 12 players and with a few list cloggers in those 12 players. With the change in mindset of blooding the young kids (A league high 8 debutants) which West Coast traditionally didn't do very often in the past, it has left us in a very good spot with regards to our list. Happy times for us Eagles fans.

Excellent observation ... I knew the number was high but didn't realise it was that high ...

There is so many contenders around that price in the midfield.
Worpel, b crouch, rocky, hall, mcgrath even miles..... probably can only choose one....
I feel Sheed has more to offer than a lot of those names but it's still a brave pick. I'm already running 6 deep in the mids down to Zorko so it would be a big restructure to even think about, which I have at times following his performance in the finals but not recently.

Josh Kelly not named has me concerned with flashbacks to last year
Hip, Groin and Knee injuries last year. Am still salty about that groin injury GWS didnt tell us about. Risk/reward, hes a top 5 mid fully fit, but I'm going to let it slide.
