Parker & Hind not finding a great deal of it.

There's two more less than trustworthy bench players.

How many rookies do w shave that look likely to play and score decently ?

Setterfield,Drew,Walsh,Butters,Duursma,Scott seem good picks.

Maybe Scrimhsaw,Clark,Collins,Constanble,Atkins could be good.

Any I missed ?

struggling even to find even bench options at this stage (apart from Bines) that might be reliable.

have pencilled in 4-7-1-4 and decided just to wait until teams are announced and select whatever ones are picked and hope for the best.

hopefully clubs will be kind enough to confirm debutants in advance and make it a little easier

It's not just debutants. It's debutants that will get a semi extended run that's my issue.

If they start R1 that’s usually a good sign of longevity. It’s the late debutants that are less reliable

now you are just being greedy ? you want them to play , score and generate $$$ as well hahaha

certainly seems to be the worse lot of potential rookies we have had for years , I guess we are all in the same boat.

might need to make a 2-20-8 side

Roberton 103 and his score looks decent today (expensive but good scores)
Cousins 101 and 73 (expensive but good scores)
Ridley 97 and 94 (expensive but good scores)
Balta 104 and 52 (cheap and good ceiling)
Hore 57 and 69 (very cheap so 50-70 is good enough)
Gibbons 68 and tomorrow
Watson 76 and tonight

Might be the year to start 3 or 4 200-250k players...

Anyone got any additional opinions on the JS of the following guys?? Who are they fighting with for a spot in the best 22? Who are guys that are injured in R1 who might take their spot in R2-3?? I think these guys could have decent scoring potential but seem to have iffy JS.

Balta
J.Clark
Hore
Petruccelle
B.Scott
Atkins
Hind
W.Hayes

I'm comfortable with starting Collins, Butters, Scrimshaw, Drew, Setterfield, Walsh, Duursma, Gibbons so I haven't listed them above. Ridley, Moore also being considered separately, possibly as fall backs depending on the above rookies. Burgess/Parker seem to have strong JS but iffy scoring potential, perhaps will take one of them only.

I have some thoughts as follows

J.Clark, had great stats in the JLT but it's hard to pick him if Tuohy doesn't play R1. Is J.Clark ahead of Bews and Henderson? Like his scoring potential, but have concerns on his JS - are the Cats good with playing their youngsters?
Balta, also was quite good in the JLT, but possibly comes out for Caddy and/or TLynch even if named in R1. I think he offers something extra to the Tigers though with his relief rucking. TLynch surely can't do it with knee concerns. Scoring in JLT2 may have been affected by Soldo playing 25% TOG - doubt Soldo plays in R1. I like him still as an option and it'll be hard not to pick him if named R1.
Hore, seems to be quite decent - had 92% TOG in JLT2 and Petty, Wagner and Frost didn't get any. Probably a good indication that he's in Goodwin's plans for R1 but there's still quite a few names he's contending with on a weekly basis.
Petruccelle, seems like more of a bench option as his scoring might be a bit up and down, but WRioli/Ryan types were great cash cows last year. Could have just snuck in for round one with his good JLT2 performance, but I see that Jamie Cripps is listed as 3-4 weeks away. When Cripps is back, does he come straight out? He probably could cement that spot with some good performances
B.Scott, probably competing with a few fringe roos but I've seen him in the R1 side of a few posters on BF. Any North supporters have a view?
Atkins, scored great in both games with decent TOG in both. Seems to be in a lot of R1 sides on the Cats BF board. I think he's a good one to put on the bench - who's he competing with? Clark?
Hind, didn't score exceptionally well in either JLT game but did only have 50% odd TOG in both. Still seems to be in the R1 side of a few posters on BF - any saints supporters have a view?
W.Hayes, probably hasn't done enough based on JLT. Low TOG and scoring in both games, but he is mature aged. Appears to just be on the cusp according the doggies BF board.

I feel like it'll just be the usual rookie pot luck with these guys. Some of them could be awesome hindsight picks despite low JS (ie: Papley, Houston, Otten types), others could be annoying. I haven't been convinced enough on the scoring of McKay or D.Joyce as genuine KPDs so am not considering them at this point. McKay might not have JS either once Thompson and Tarrant return.

Edit: added Duursma.

Looks like you didn't read the fine print when they made you moderator ?

Your entire focus this pre-season is to find the answer to the rookie riddle for all of us.

Great post , if only I had some of the answers to provide

Petruccelle is definitely in our Round 1 team after his fantastic summer and JLT series. The coaching staff are really impressed with his improvement and what he brings to the team. From what I have heard Cripps & JK are both looking like missing round 1 and returning for round 2. There is also LeCras spot up for grabs.

Oscar Allen and Petruccelle are the two I think are fighting for that spot once both Cripps & JK return. I know it doesn't help much but I don't really know which way they will lean... bringing in the taller Allen to replace Lecca or the smaller Petruccelle, It could go either way. Though I do feel they have to try get Oscar Allen into the team somehow. He is going to be a star, he looks ready, and needs games now.

Doesn't look like there's a spot for Hind at the moment, unfortunately. Would be surprised if he's named RD1 (but I'll pick him for the bench if he is).

Is Duursma an intentional omission? How do people feel about starting all of Duursma, Butters and Drew? Feels like they can't all be wins.
