Not planning any trades this week as yet but team selection could throw up some curve balls.

Have been lucky with week 1 missing on Balta and Collins but unfortunately have Gibbons and Burgess instead.

Really at this stage I've only missed out on Scott from North so may use one next week to get him in somehow but will see what the weekend brings.

Zac Clarke via Bines another option
This is likely what I'll do with Collins if Clarke can crack the side over the coming weeks. Seems as though I was lucky enough to hit all the key rookies but that could very well change after the weekends games.

Will strand Moore & Burgess on the same line for a while but unless some better rookies pop up I'm not liking the alternatives.

Are you really considering getting rid of Darling on the back of one game they lost quite badly and in which he had Andrews land on his knee? A 75 isn't unexpected from a key forward, you're picking him because he could double that next week.
No i said next week those two would be considered pending what they do this week. The 75 wasn’t unexpected. It’s if he doesn’t perform this week with Kennedy back against a weaker defender at home where his scores have been inflated in the past.

I find that a difficult reason to justify ... he had ~50% game time and went as hard as he could when he had a chance at it ... never known any big fella to not be clumsy at times ... but yes he had a few that went against him ..
Hardwick said pre game 1 that he wouldn't play Riewdolt, Lynch and Balta in the same team.

Then he selects Balta and I think everyone assumes he was lying.

Lynch was not to be available but not fully fit, think Balta was an insurance policy for Lynch in that game.

Cannot see Richmond going from premiership 1 tall to 3 tales in one go. Balta looks to be down the pecking order as a defender with Garthwaite still to come back once fit.

Thinking very long and hard about a pretty risky round 1 double trade re-structure.

Oliver-Rocky
Collins-Newman

Was super bullish on Newman pre-season but he didn't make my final side. My backline is currently Whitfield, Williams and rookies which feels too light on IMO.

Oliver is still a fantastic SC asset. I'm fully aware of this but bringing in a fit, 400k Rockliff is very tempting. If he can go somewhere close to matching Oliver then the trade will be a huge win as I've banked 220k.

Risky as hell, but you don't get anywhere in this game without taking some punts.

Leaves me with the below and 17k to likely chase Scott:

Whitfield, Williams, Newman, Clark, Scrimshaw, Duursma (Hore, Burgess)
Fyfe, Cripps, Neale, Mouch, Dusty, Rocky, Walsh, Butters (Constable, Atkins, Gibbons)
Gawn, Grundy (Bines)
Danger, Heeney, Billings, Moore, Setterfield, Drew (Parker, Petrucelle)

Nearly every player would be suffering from general soreness after the first game of the season...
Curious why Greene is rumoured to be unavailable in round 2 for this reason?

Thoughts on Mills to Burgess and Gibbons to Rocky (depending on team selections). Not keen on burning 2 x trades but took a risk on Mills and not comfortable now that was a smart move. Leaves me next week to deal with Balta.
Appreciate the comments. Cheers!

Does getting Rocky force one of Constable, Walsh or Scott off field? Who gets put on field in DEF to replace Mills (presumably not Burgess?)

I think this kind of trade can work but if it worsens your rookie structure and includes getting a borderline rookie like Burgess it seems iffy. Is Burgess really the best def rookie you don't have?

Hi, yep will force one of them to the bench in mids, and will bring Scrimshaw or Hore off the bench in Def?

Will mean i will have Cripps, Oliver, Neale, Dusty, Libba, Rocky, Scott and Walsh/Constable.

Thanks

These kinds of restructuring trades feel wrong but can be necessary sometimes. I'm considering similar but will wait till next week. Getting Scott seems the higher priority for you, but I can see why those tempted by Rocky want him in this week before playing Carlton. You need both Rocky and Newman to be keepers to make it worth it. A gamble but not a totally crazy one IMO.

FWIW I currently have similar MID and DEF rookie structure that you will end up with after these trades, and I'm still considering changing it to allow one more MID rookie on field. Getting Rocky in for Oliver seems to cut off that option for you. Hard to know if it's necessary until seeing another wweek, but maybe something to think about.

Hard to know the best option without knowing the rest of your team but FWIW I see it as using two trades to get a worse rookie and a better speculative midpricer. If you really want Rocky (I think that's reasonable) I would be looking at other ways to get him.
