hot mess of injury means Moore goes (will hold Williams for now).

If Crouch plays then...
Walsh - Hately/Young
Moore - Whitfield

If Danger misses then coin toss of fielding Young or Parker. Would hope both score ok vs Blues.
*cue sub 30 scores

Oh, if Crouch misses again.
*cue foetal position

Things sound dire for Zac but I can't find a way to get anything better on field by trading him ahead of Moore and ROB so I will stick with that for now and reassess next week.

Already got Hurn, Whitfield and Lloyd.

Thinking of doing something a bit radical, and turning 1 keeper into 2.

Williams and Moore to Houli and Blakely.

One of Sicily/Laird would then be my last defence upgrade.

Thoughts?

I think something like that is the best way to do it if you trade Williams. Of course it's a big gamble on houli and Blakely but if you like them to be keepers it's not the worst bet.

Yeah, definitely a risk but I think with Williams going down it provides an opportunity to do something different - especially given people will be looking to get in the defenders I already have.

Houli in particular really interests me.

i'm giving him 2 weeks. then if he's not named will probably sideways to a bottomed out Milera for an $80k cash grab.
of course i need Milera to play this week for that to happen.

I think they are both good options. I intend to get Blakely next week and am still considering him for this week.

Defs is so hard this year because the bar seems to have risen to about a 100ave. Of course we won't end up with that at d6 but in the past if you found a sub 400k guy you thought could go 90-95 it was often a good option. This year our "value picks" are still 450k+ and we have to find ones with the capacity to go 100+. Tough year.

Just be wary..

Between rounds 11-23 in the last 3 years he has played:
2018: 4/13 games
2017: 8/13 games
2016: 5/13 games

If you take out Blakely 13 and 7 scores in 2 injury affected games he scored at 99.73 in 15 games in 2017 playing predominantly midfield (and tagging).

When moved to the HBF in 2018 his scoring dropped back to 85 in 13 games.
He had 4 x 100+ but also 5 x <70

In 2017 he had 9 x 100+ and 5 x <70 so isn't the most consistent but does have that ceiling there.

Hopefully with Neale gone he plays a more midfield oritentated role this year. The rumours were he'd be tagging NEale this week so I'll be interesting to see how he scores in that game. Would like to see a 90+ against Brisbane on his home deck in the midfield/tagging role before bringing him in.

His and Houli's bye suit though.

Yep would definitely prefer to see how he goes this week, but circumstances might force my hand as I am confident he is one I want in there at some point so I don't want to fill up with someone I like less. If he ends up not playing mid it will be a failed pick but surely they want him there.

I cannot see how doesn’t end up playing midfield other than injury. I’m considering going early on him depending on how bad teams are.... Injury risk is the main one for him.

The small worry is they use him as a tagger which has been highlighted this week in regards to Neale.

In saying that, that’s still better than HBF and big bodied taggers who can accumulate themselves like Hewett and Steele have still been going ok for the most part.

Would be interesting to see his tackle numbers this week as that will help his scoring a fair bit too.

Yes as long as he gets to play a run-with style rather than pure stopper I think it will be OK. Harmes is another who has gone OK in that kind of role.

Harmes 3 round average of 117 starting to work into the season nicely after shoulder surgery impacted his pre-season.

Zach Williams look alarming. Probably going to have to trade.

Suspect the masses will lump onto Stewart so will be avoiding that. Looking at:

Crisp
Ellis
McGovern
Hurley
Witherden

Probably a toss up for me between Crisp and Witherden. I thought both would be top 10 defenders at the start of the year, and expect both to improve from here.

As much as I love the idea of CD employees sitting in a room, arbitrarily deciding which players they are going to score less during a season - it's probably more likely the case that he just hasn't been as effective with the ball or in the contest.

Either way, it wouldn't take much of an improvement in his SC/DT ratio for him to be elite again.
