Yeah I'm in agreement, some people have taken it to be completely true but I'm confused as to why
Indicative of the current climate in regards to utilising twitter to break certain news/headlines. Less focus on reporting correctly as being the first to release is priority and ensures they maintain relevancy. Unsure of his track record, reputation and credibility all factors which are overlooked by a vast majority when trying to assess the accuracy. The situation should be a lot clearer tomorrow as I think L Cameron conducts a presser mid Tuesday and surprising that no one else (mainly NSW based or affiliated reporters) have released similar reports.

If Whitfield did indeed needed surgery on his collar bone, then I would've expected him to be in a lot more pain than what he showed after the incident and post game. The only 'fact' we have was that LC says that it was just a stinger and he wanted to come back on which they decided against.

Either way, we should get some clarity later today during LC weekly presser. Like most, I'm hoping to hear some positive confirmation on this...

Injury update: Lambert, Riewoldt, Cotchin, Nankervis, Short

Richmond's Physical Performance Manager, Peter Burge, provides Richmond Media with an update on Kane Lambert, Jack Riewoldt, Trent Cotchin, Oleg Markov, Jake Aarts, Luke English, Marlion Pickett, Toby Nankervis and Jayden Short.

Richmond’s Physical Performance Manager Peter Burge provides ‘Richmond Media’ with an update on the injury status of several members of the Tigers’ playing group.

Kane Lambert, Achilles

“Kane’s improved this week. He developed a little bit of Achilles tendinopathy after the Fremantle game and then took it into the Hawthorn game and flagged after that game that he was a bit sore. It did stop him from being at his best, running at high speed which is his real strength in the game. So, we took the chance to take him out of footy for a couple of weeks."

Jake Riewoldt, PCL

"Jack’s progressed really well. He spent a week running on the Alter G last week and ran outside for the first time yesterday and his knee is quite stable now and functionally feeling pretty good. We’ll have to go through a mini preparation phase and build the volume of running and then into some speed. (He’ll be back) after the bye, when after the bye, it’s hard to say at this stage but we’ll progress it carefully. We want him to be healthy when he comes back and then he can finish the season."

Trent Cotchin's return

"(He pulled up) really well from his first game back. Trent played 72% game time on Friday night. He hadn’t played for seven weeks and generally after a player has missed that significant amount of time, the first week back we tend to give them a light week. He’ll do a little bit of training this week and obviously play again this Friday night against the Cats."

Oleg Markov, illness

"Oleg has been sick, in the Essendon game (VFL Round 8) he felt sick that day. He played in the game and did quite well but was feeling ordinary. He came in on Monday last week feeling a little bit better but then during the main training on Wednesday he deteriorated and the doctor called us and made a decision that he wouldn’t be playing on the weekend. But he’s much better now, feeling a lot better so he’s got a full week of training ahead and will hopefully play on the weekend."

Jake Aarts, general soreness

"Jake Aarts has had a couple of corkies the last couple of weeks and he had a little bit of 'DOMS' (delayed onset muscle soreness) through his hamstrings last week and we just took the opportunity to give him a rest on the weekend. He’ll fully train this week and be back this weekend."

Luke English, scapula

"He’s had a rough trot recently. A few weeks back he missed a game through illness and then a week later he had an unfortunate incident at training where he fractured his scapula, which is a long-term injury. He’s now back jogging outside, he’s got a bit of discomfort but that will gradually get better over next couple of weeks and he’ll be able to increase his running and conditioning base. We’re still quite a few weeks away but at least he’s back on the track and getting his conditioning base up and hopefully we’ll get some good news soon."

Marlion Pickett, finger

"Marlion started with us late last week and we obviously knew the news around his finger, he had surgery on Saturday a week ago and that’s on top of a pre-season finger injury. We’re getting a bit more information, it’s going to be a longer-term injury but we’ll get a bit more of an exact time frame once he’s seen a specialist but we’re really confident he’s going to play some footy towards the end of the year. He can still run and do a lot of the conditioning and kick the ball. He’ll train separate to the group for a little while, we’ll get him really fit and he’ll hopefully play some football towards the end of the season."

Toby Nankervis, groin

"'Nank' has got a few more boxes to tick in terms of strength in the gym with his groin, but overall, his running and his conditioning, it’s a post-bye scenario for 'Nank'. When that is, I'm not exactly too sure at this stage. But he is going really well and hopefully he’ll do a little bit of training over the break and then we can introduce him back into football at some stage just after the bye."

Jayden Short, elbow

"Jayden is progressing really well. His elbow is going great at the moment and he’ll resume football training over the next week or two. We’re targeting the first game after the bye, probably on reduced minutes, but it’s really exciting as he’s been out for quite a while. Like a lot of our players, after the bye seems to be the scenario at the moment."

Fluurp tough choices to make RE: Whitfield.
I remember somebody wise a while back (Rowsus I think but could have been one of many on this site) espousing about the fear of donuts versus trading players in and out.
Just say that holding Whitfield through R12 and R13 costs you one donut and one rookie score (because you've planned well but not fantastically). Maybe 160 points.
When Whitfield returns you get a top defender for 9 more matches.
Compare that to trading him out and back in again (because you want him in your team for finals right?). Post-bye trades are crucial - I always run out of them and that costs me way more than 160 points.
So I think I'll probably muddle through and hold him for now.

I think I might be with you.

Trades are going to be so tight for me so I'll just wear a donut. With my ranking at around 26k I'm probably aiming for league anyway and I've got a fairly easy run over the byes so one or 2 donuts probably won't hurt me too much.

Him being out tho does bring Hately back into the equation for me. If he's named he'd have to hold his place over the byes, still not sure if I'll be able to bring him in tho with only 1 downgrade available in the mids (and I was going to get Bewley)

I'm not going to get caught up in this illusion of the byes helping with holding Whitfield.

I can see 4-6 weeks being reported so at a minimum he'll miss games against Crows, North, Bye and Essendon post bye and possibly Brisbane and Richmond.

Comes back against the Pies with a BE of around 160 with money to burn - I think I'll move him on still. I can control that, not going to go through a Crouch on again of again where points are gold during the bye rounds.

AFL website calling it 4-6 for Whitfield.

"The 24-year-old, who won the club champion award and was named All Australian last season, had surgery on Monday night and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. "

Sorry going to play devils advocate I agree with holding but we are talking about a club that doesn’t give a lot of info to the media regarding there players injures which is completely fine but for sc purposes it’s very hard to know the diagnosis we are dealing with. If he misses 2 its a hold but if it’s as long as 6 I would trade. If it’s 4 weeks and you have cover over the bye rounds then hold.

Most Google Doctors seem to indicate 6-8 wks, a few 4-6 wks, in fact surgery seems to be recommended only for more serious breaks, although maybe it can also be used to heal minor breaks quicker(?)...nontheless, being a high contact sport I can't see him being back any time soon.

Last week I thought I had cover over the byes, things changed quickly so if I think I can cover Whitfield through the byes I am an idiot... definite trade for me
