More details on Hurn

West Coast Eagles Shannon Hurn has been ruled out of the Eagles’ crucial clash with Sydney on Sunday due to a hamstring strain.

Hurn left the field late in the third term against the Bulldogs in round 11 and did not return to the field, with subsequent scans showing a slight hamstring strain which will keep him out of action for at least one week.

West Coast Eagles general manager of football Craig Vozzo said Hurn should be available after the club’s bye in round 13.

“It’s a very low-grade strain, that we’ve diagnosed,” Vozzo said.

“On doctor’s advice we’re going to take the week off, get him right and have him available post-bye.”

The Eagles could receive a boost in the big man department, with Tom Hickey on track to be available for selection after two weeks off with an ankle injury.

“Tom Hickey has passed all of the relevant testing that they do,” Vozzo said.

‘He’s got main training on Thursday with the group, we expect him to get through that and be available for selection.”

The progress of key defender Tom Barrass has ramped up with the 23 year-old also pushing to return to the field following the bye.

“The (medical) boys have accelerated his program, he’s doing more and more on-ground running,” Vozzo said.

“He did some training yesterday with the main group, at this rate we’re anticipating he’ll be back main training in the next week, to two weeks, and not that far away from playing.”

WAFL Eagles skipper Fraser McInnes will miss this weekend’s game against West Perth on Sunday due to an AC sprain in his shoulder, but the side should be bolstered by the return of dashing defender Francis Watson (AC joint) and bullocking midfielder Hamish Brayshaw.

“Fraser (McInnes) has had a bit of an unlucky run with the AC, he’s got an AC sprain at the moment which he’s recovering from,” Vozzo said.

“He’s probably a week away and with the benefit of the bye he’ll be available straight after that.

“Hamish Brayshaw has made great strides, he’s medically fit and has now been building up his training volumes.

“He was unlucky not to play last week, he almost got to the line, assuming he gets through training on Thursday he’ll play on the weekend.

“Franky (Watson) has now been medically cleared, so assuming he gets through training he’ll play on the weekend.”

Superstar ruckman Nic Naitanui remains on track for a return post-bye while Daniel Venables (concussion), Harry Edwards (foot) and Patrick Bines are still being assessed in terms of a return to play date.

Like I said previously, No games from the Eagles in regards to injuries.

Hope the boys can get the job done without him.

Beams expected to miss 3 months if not the season.

Yet Essendon supporters moan about their injury list.

We can't take a trick again.

Not a bad thing IMO. As long as Adams comes back helathy and we bring the bear in, the way Beams has been playing lately it's no great loss.

I was very critical of him during the Freo game , looked disinterested and lazy so I would have dropped him this week.

Been carrying it for a few weeks apparently.

Said yesterday Sier could be our most important mid and definitely missing Tay Tay.

I guess all clubs get injuries , so we just have to cover them the best we can.

Currently have Daniher, Stringer, Shiel, Smith and Fantasia on our injury list.

Enjoyed the potshot though.
Be nice to actually get Adams , Beams , Cox , De Goey , Dunn , Elliott , Langdon , Moore , Scharenberg , Wells etc etc all on the field together and see what the team actually plays like and what it could achieve.

I guess injuries give others the opportunity to perform.

Yeah that's it... Time to shine for a number of young players.

Reminds me of 2015... West Coast had just seen our Club Legend and Full Back of 14 years in Darren Glass retire at the conclusion of 2014, Then in the first Pre-season game of 2015... Our other Key Defender Eric MaKenzie at the peak of his playing days suffers an ACL injury... Then to top it off in the first qtr of our Round 1 game... Mitch Brown our Third Key Defender also suffers an ACL injury.

Up steps 13 gamer Jeremy McGovern to save the day and cover for our lack of tall defenders. Armed with a new Web defense Gov lead our depleted back line to the 2015 Grand Final. Those injuries really fast tracked his development and he has never looked back since.

Exactly , although I don't like the comparison between football and war , I do like Clarko when he says "lose a soldier , another steps up" as long as they play there role.

Adelaide is a great example too lose Lever , Doedee steps up , Doedee injured and Keath is having a All Australian season.

Just got to hope the 22 on the park each week performs.

Interesting injury news from Melbourne,
MELBOURNE’s backline could be significantly bolstered in Round 12 with a number of crucial defenders in the frame for selection this week.

In exciting news for the red and blue, Steven May is likely to play his second game for the club against Collingwood on Monday after making a successful return from a groin injury in the VFL last weekend.

Kade Kolodjashnij will also be available to play after getting through Casey’s game unscathed, following a seven-week stint on the sidelines with concussion.

Christian Salem has no concerns after withdrawing from Saturday night’s game with illness and will play this week, while Jay Lockhart (knee) and Alex Neal-Bullen (concussion) are also back to full fitness after training with the main group on Wednesday.

The Demons will have another training session at Casey Fields on Friday where the microscope will be on a defensive trio.

Marty Hore (calf), Jake Lever (ankle) and Harry Petty (knee) will all be looking to complete the session and make themselves available for the clash with the Pies.

“They will all need to do a bit of training on Friday, so they’ll be a test this week,” Elite Performance Manager David Misson told Melbourne Media.

“Marty had a run on the AlterG today and we’re hoping he can get through that session.”

Corey Maynard has been ruled out again this week as his concussion symptoms continue to linger, while the club is taking a no-risk approach with Aaron vandenBerg’s foot, giving the midfielder as long as he needs to get it back to full strength.

“Vanders is going pretty well – he’s done a fair few running sessions outside,” Misson said.

“There hasn’t been a setback, he’s actually progressing pretty well but it’s just going to take longer than we thought – we’re taking a cautious approach there.”

Jake Melksham (foot) and Neville Jetta (knee) are still a number of weeks away, but their respective recoveries are travelling smoothly.

“Melksham will start running next Wednesday, so he’s tracking as expected,” Misson said.

“Nev has started running outside and has pulled up well, so that is looking positive too.”

Unfortunately for Demons youngster Tom Sparrow, he will miss at least two months with a knee injury.

“Tommy had a knee operation two weeks ago after hurting his knee in the VFL, so he’ll be sidelined for a little while,” Misson said.

Check out Melbourne’s full injury list below.
