I'll need to go massive next week to pip QI, B18 and co. Haven't (too dumb) done math but probably too far back, even if i jag a heap of 4s.
Haha, I thought about doing the math for me to win before this week, hoping the leaders all fall in a heap, but that's as far as I got, too hard :)
Anyway, my aim now is get as high up the ladder as possible. I started by just playing for fun and I am still enjoying this comp.

QI is currently on 24/73, with 2 selections to come this week.
@Bermi is 46/93
@Juzzo is 32/76

If QI has 2 x 0 more this week, and 3 x 0 next week, he becomes 29/73 =2.5172

For Bermi to equal QI it becomes:
(93 + 4X)/(46 + X) = 2.5172 =>
93 + 4X = 115.7931 + 2.5172X =>
1.4828X = 22.7931 =>
X = 15.37 ....... ie Bermi gets in front of QI, if QI scores 5 x 0's, and Bermi scores 16 x 4's from here.

For Juzzo to equal QI it becomes:
(76 + 4X)/(32 + X) = 2.5172 =>
76 + 4X = 80.5504 + 2.5172X =>
1.4828X = 4.5504 =>
X = 3.0688 ....... ie Juzzo needs to score 3 x 4's + 1 x 3 to get in front of QI, if QI scores 5 x 0's from here.

Another way for @Juzzo to look at it:

QI is 24/73, with a minimum of 5 selections to come.
That makes him 29/(73 + Points to be scored)

Juzzo is 32/76 with potentially 18 selections to come.

Assuming QI makes the minimum number of selections, he finishes on:

(73 + P)/29 =2.5172 + P/29

Juzzo, if he can score X number of 4's from here is: (76 + 4X)/(32 + X)

After complicated back and forths, you get:

X = (132 + 32P)/(43 - P)

So, for Points QI scored by, Juzzo can see how many 4's he needs to score.

ie, if QI scores 6 points from here, then Juzzo needs

X = (132 + 32*6/(43 - 6) = 8.76,
so Juzzo would need 9 out of 9 4's to catch QI.

Conversely, if QI scored 13 points from his last 5 selections, Juzzo cannot catch him!

X = (132 + 32*13)/(43-13) = 18.2, with Juzzo only having 18 possible picks to come.

Very impressive calculations there Rowsus, I'm glad I didn't even try to start. But in a nut shell, I knew I don't have a real chance to win :)

As I have been playing this comp (very poorly) I have been thinking that one of its drawbacks is that you can’t tell at a glance how far behind you are and what you need to do to catch up. I was going to save this feedback for the end however I think these posts illustrate that point nicely.

I do have a suggestion to make which is consistent with the golfing analogy but I will save that for afterwards.

Note however this really doesn’t apply in my case because I missed the cut...

Yeah, I can see a couple of things I'd do different next time.
I am very glad for any input, or feedback you have, B2D.
Anyone else, too. Feel free to suggest improvements on what we have done here! :)

Ok well given you asked.

I would suggest running it as stroke event rather than stableford. The pars and over and under tipping concept would be the same however rather than awarding points you would be awarding either an eagle, birdie, par, bogey or double bogey. That way you can express the standings as over and under par rather than as average points and people know exactly how much they need to make up.

I know it is a deliberate design feature of the comp to allow people to make as many tips as they want. However in real golf you don’t get to pick the holes you play so I would suggest setting par for 18 players in each of the four rounds of the finals and force people to play every hole. Then you have a 72 hole major championship.

Very similar to my thoughts, too.
Thanks, Mark.

I like the "...…..….force people to play every hole...….."

Yeah, in hindsight, I gave people the soft option.
I was just trying to make a fun comp, and I didn't want to discourage anyone, who thought it was too hard.
The fact that 4/0 & 0/4 scores have dominated means the brackets need to expand beyond the current 10 points as well!

Ladder update:

SCS19PreGolfLad.png

It's a race in , by the looks of it, unless Juzzo can jag something like 7 out of 7 next week, with the other 3 stumbling ...... a lot!

It becomes tactical next week. Does one of them sneak a 4th or 5th pick, in the hope of boosting their average enough, to nail the other two!!!
