Hehe - I’m pretty keen on Oliver, so he’d be first up for me.

Zerrett I have about 6th-8th or so (if I ordered my potential starting picks). He is durable, slightly discounted, and still young as well. I’m not convinced he’s as good a SC player as Oliver, and there was some discussion last year that Shiel’s arrival may have an impact on his scoring (which history might back up to date). I don’t think he’s a bad pick by any stretch, but he looks like a reliable option who could end up at M7, M8 etc, and I usually prefer to start those guys only if they are quite cheap, or if other structural factors suggest it. @pizza safety is a Dons fan and we discussed starting Zerrett in the Mids thread.

I look fairly biased based on my avatar but I basically think he’s a good pick just because he’s cheaper than some of the top end premiums and is a good safe option with 110-115 upside. I’d still prefer a Macrae to him and I prefer Oliver to him at that price point but I think he’s a good cheaper option to other picks. He’s in my team mainly because he’s who I can afford based on my current structure. The idea is he ends up a solid-very good M6-M8. @Ricky Bobby

Oliver v Neale?

I'm currently structured with 4 premium midfielders, and I've invested in players like Rowell, Bonar and Stephen Hill so I've got a little bit of rookie leeway. I'm not 100% certain on my premium picks in the midfield, but so far I have Dunkley and Cripps, with Zorko my cheaper M4 selection - perhaps influenced by personal bias, especially as he's now 30 and might not get the astronomical averages of younger players, but it will be a tough choice to leave him out, if only due to heart over head.

I could, should I leave Zorko out, get both Neale and Oliver by picking Flanders/Cockatoo over Bonar at F5.

I do like a mix on each line to give better loophole options, but Neale seemed resistant to major dips in price last year - which is why I'm removing Dangerfield from M3.

Looks like you have decided to go for both Neale and Oliver over Zorko from the teams thread. I think this is probably the best option too, as there's plenty of value around and both players should score better than Zorko. Not sold on Bonar to score much better than a lot of the rookies either, so I agree you should be able to save some cash there.

I have found to go with your head if you want to do well. Most of my really bad decisions over the years in SC have been the gut instinct type picks, or where I have tried to do something different, rather than those picks I have looked into more carefully. If that means you have to cut a player you like, it's usually the right thing.

I mean I've made so many dumb moves because I've convinced myself that the actual logical choices are the emotional ones.

Whitfield for me, assuming he stays fit this year, but it is close and either would be good choices. Dusty if you need the extra cash.

I originally tried creating a team going lighter in the forwards, but the more I look at stats, the more I'm leaning to including both if I can afford to. Both are almost locks to be top 6 forwards, just depends if you want to shell out the starting cash amount.

Whitfield for me. Dusty seemed to start slow last year, but really built into some really good form in the lead up to finals. Whether it was injury or some other reason, he didn’t really look very interested early on and it felt to me that he was being managed to peak late in the season. Not sure if history will repeat, but at this stage I’m thinking another slow start may happen and Dusty may be a good upgrade target.

I guess my question should have been: pick two of Heeney, Houston and Dawson
Oh, misunderstood then. Thought you had Dawson locked in.

I know a lot of better SC'ers than me here think Dawson is in for a good year, he seems to be in a lot of early teams, so I'd say he is one of the two for sure. Heeney or Houston for the other spot - I've already said I prefer Heeney.
