If ROB mark2 appears I'll jam him in without a second thought. Otherwise watch my draft team do summersaults trying to find a reason to run nic nat...and then start grawndy.

Winding up his career like Jacobs but is a better scorer than Jacobs, still I see no upside or advantage in picking him at that price.

He will break out one year, but you really need the top 2 guys on that line, probably more than any other.

I think it was about as successful as one would hope (ROB being pretty serviceable) but without being a knockout. I finished alright last year, but I think “having” to get Grawndy in reduced the flexibility of my options around the byes. If a ROB type rookie was available in Rucks this year, I’d have no problem going without one of them.

I think if I’d have stuck with my non-Grawndy combo post-bye it might have served me well too.

TLDR: Success highly depends on the rookies, I basically spent full price on Grawndy anyway, it limited my trading options during the bye AND it have me heart issues pre-bye.

I'm keeping a close eye on Draper's pre-season - Essendon rate him and they're pretty thin at the ruck position, although Phillips will be serviceable too if Bellchambers gets injured.

I think a playing rookie ruck could absolutely work but you would want to be pretty confident they make 150-200k early on, if they stalled or missed games/low scores ect, Ruck is a hell of a position to get caught out playing around in. I know this because I have been down the cheap R2 path more than once.

I think if Draper is fit and playing some might go that path, that path would be easier if we get a decent ruck bench player and/or had a good R/F option to cover. No good R/F options makes going the rookie R2 harder I think.

If he shows signs of solid physical development then he could be a bit of a Rowan Marshall type for SC - not necessarily world beating in the ruck but handy around the ground.

Having what I feel is probably the best midfield group in the competition might also help him be a bit more efficient in terms of HTA's (which in turn may help o***et a lack of volume in total hitouts), mostly because their onballers are pretty much all sharks at the stoppages.

That cheap R3 would of course need to be playing and making cash early on in the season or it falls down in a heap.

This season looks like it's going to be an absolute minefield in terms of navigating through all of the (tempting) fallen mid-pricers and pairing them with the right rookies.

The doggies, the giants, West Coast, Brisbane have (in my opinion) superior midfield groups by whatever statistical measure you wish to choose. Sharking is typically off the opponents tap, so how does Draper benefit from that? Perhaps even Richmond and the pies are deeper. He was talking about Tim English and the Doggies midfield in that post Chels, not Draper and the Dons

Draper did his ACL in early May last year.

Not sure if he'd be quite right for the start of the season and may be a trade in prospect although in saying that I've read nothing on his recovery progress.

From memory Draper's ACL injury came literally the week before Bellchambers went down as well. He was piecing together a pretty solid season in the VFL and would've debuted had he not gone down. A big bloke coming off an ACL, with serviceable Bellchambers backup in Phillips having arrived (not Zac Clarke) I think they will probably be extra cautious with Draper, and probably once he's ready to play again just give him the year in the VFL to get back into the swing of things and develop further. 2021 might be the year for Draper.

Nooo that was in relation to English and the Bulldogs, not Draper and Essendon.

There were two trains of thought being discussed there in alternate posts - its a bit confusing I know but you didn't follow the one that started here properly I'm afraid.

Brilliant. Thanks for posting that. I have Draper in a SC keeper league and was really liking what I had seen from him, was shattered when he did his knee as he was so close to cracking into the seniors. From what I had heard he is really well liked amongst the playing group, and the footage in that video backs that up.
