I don't think we've had the same buzz around rookies this year that we've had in the past. Does this mean we might be light on?
We have the identical buzz around rookies that we have this time every year... that is, people claiming that there won't be any....

Give it time, they'll emerge just like every other season.

Here’s my watchlist of rookies I think should score well if named.

Def : Young, Bianco*, Gould, Brander*, Ling, Starcevich*, Rivers*.

Fwd : Cahill*, Cavarra, Cockatoo*, Flanders*, Henry, Mahoney*, Sturt, E.Smith*, Walker, Rankine.

Rucks : Meek, Hayes, Cameron*, Draper, A.Smith.

Mids : Rowell, Pickett, Bytel, Collier-Dawkins, Hayden, Hibberd, Maginness, Robertson, Serong, Valente,

Watchlist : Anderson, Berry, Bonar, Buzza, Cottrell, Frampton, Gown, Hosie, King, Kreuger, Lyons, McHenry, Rantall, Skinner, Williamson.

* DPP
Feel free to add to this list.
Sam Simpson from Geelong in the mids could definitely feature as well, he’s didn’t play a senior game last year but won their VFL b&f.

I have Shipley from GWS on my mid bench too, he won the time trial this preseason and had some huge numbers in the NEAFL last year but he might have a pretty hard time getting games in that stacked midfield, I’m thinking they might put him in a different role.

I acknowledge that we need to wait for the JLT, but which Rookies are assured of a starting R1 berth for their respective teams based on the information we have right at this point in time...?

For me, it's the following based off training reports and commentaries thus far...

DEF: Young
MID: Rowell, Pickett, McHenry
FWD: Cockatoo, Rankine, King

Any others which needs to be added to the above list...?

Seeing a lot of Anderson , Flanders , McLennan , Rankine & Rowell in teams.

Is their space in the Suns for all 5 to debut in Round 1 ?

surely Jack Bytel gets a start at the Saints on first name alone.

Although Butler , Hill , Howard , Jones & Ryder need to fit in somewhere + Roberton

The rookies always.......always pop up just prior to round 1.

Both injury and form will see a few stick their hands up.

All clubs love the publicity that comes with blooding rookies.

Mahony, Sturt and Cottrell are the 3 uncommon ones I've heard a bit about.

Maginness and Mead too, but they are F/S picks so it might just be a bit of romanticism.

We are still at the point of preseason where regular supporters think their team is great and on the up and there's no chance this 18yo will get a game ahead of 25yo listclogger who hasn't been outted as a listclogger just yet.

The kids will come, they always do.

Jack Mahony is a gun.

Has had trouble with injuries over the last 2 years and hasn’t played much of footy, and was tipped to be a top 10 pick at around 16 years old.
