For me, it's Naismith at R3 for any short term injury cover. A lot of $ to have on the bench, but I think it's worth it for peace of mind. Would hope he has gone up in price before any long term injury occurs.
Worse case scenario with an early long term injury I would play Naismith and wait until Gawn has gone down/ Naismith up in price to double trade NicNat and Naismith to Gawn and rookie
Providing Naismith can stay on the park himself long enough to provide any cover , coming back from 2 years out himself.

Although NicNat/Naismith looks like it is $ 100k cheaper than Gawn/Comben so might be a reasonable idea.

What’s the plan if it goes balls up mate? He makes a lot of sense as a pick if Gawn isn’t ready but there don’t seem to be any reasonable single trade outs other than Sauce or Naismith if he injures himself again.
To be honest, I haven't given my SC team a whole lot of thought at the moment, I'm still focusing on my NBL team for the next week or so then will shift all my focus to my SC team. Just keeping up with the AFL info right now.

Ideally Gawn will be right for round 1 and it will be a problem we don't have to worry about.

It's definately an option I'll look at.
I did this with Danger a couple years ago, some rookie scored 80~ as emergency so I just held him on the bench round 1.

Didn't quite workout overall but I would pull the same move again if the chance presented itself.
I guess it can't be completely baseless if two players of your calibre are considering it but seems like madness to me. Apart from anything else, if he misses RD1 how can you be confident he lines up RD2? Or that when he does play he will be fit enough to play sole ruck?

Sounds like it's all theoretical anyway and we'll get to see him in pre but at 700k I want him bombproof.

I did that as well. Had a good score first round and then danger had an ordinary start and dropped about $200k. Wasn’t worth it.

McGovern seems right, but it would be interesting to see how they judge "contested" marks these days. Brown takes most of his marks uncontested on the lead, doesn't he? Is it considered a contest when you've already left your direct opponent in the dust? Similar to Hawkins.

Edit: about 50 of McGovern's would be direct kicks from Essendon midfielders as well.

TBC in for surgery again this week. Starting to look closely at Phillips as a Smokey. Always behind Kruzer at Carlton, but performed well when he got his chance. Draper not ready either.
Phillips had some good stats in the games he played last year - probably not enough games to go by though. Has been impressive at training, match sim recently. Doubt I have the guts, but could he be the RO’B of this year?

(Just read that back and I sound like a Herald Sun pundit...)

I had some thoughts like this when I saw TBC was injured but Phillips is just too pricey at $400k. Would need to avg 95-100, not sure he does (although he did from a handful of games last year)

Seems his price is a strange given his lack of recent games. I looked him up expecting him to be much cheaper.
