M: Fyfe, Cripps, Titch, Bont, Oliver, Rowell, Rookie, Rookie

F: Whitfield, Martin, Brayshaw, Bonar, Hill, Rookie

Ceglar plan is to move him to the forward line eventually when getting Gawn or upgrade him to Gawn if McEvoy returns to the ruck

Do you have Wingard in your side at the moment?

It looked like he got a lot of CBAs in the game this week, but his score didn’t seem overly compelling. Early days but mixed signs.

Do you expect him to get more midtime than last year?
When he played full midtime at Power he scored 90-110. It was surprising that given his mid time as a whole went up last season, his scoring fell away. Notable his minutes dropped 20% last year below his average.

His score was ok the other night (for low TOG), although Hawks spread CBA's, between quite a few players.

Too many questions for me, needs exclusive mid time. Tom Mitchell back will take up some rotations and could impact his clearance work which was a strength of Wingard.

Dusty, Wingard, Steven, Smith for me currently
Interesting that people would be seeing Wingard as the safer/better option than Steven.
On the one hand we have a 400k option that’s only ever gone 90plus season av twice in the last 5yrs with a best result of 97 back in 2015.
While the other at 360k has only fallen below 90 once in the last 5 years with a high of 104 also in 2015.
Steven has played the bulk of his career up to now in a ordinary team receiving very little support, having to fight for all his possessions with a tagger following his every step most weeks.Winning 4 B&Fs along the way, and now at Geelong potentially has the chance of a free run at the ball for the first time in many years.
Of course questions over Steven fitness both physically and mentally still need to be assessed, but all things being even I know who I’d rather be on
Thanks @GrainFedBeef, @_Slip_, @Snowman and @TopBillings, interesting comments re Wingard.

I was considering him as about my sixth favorite forward option, but feeling less than comfortable unless he looked great in the preseason games. I don’t know how fit he was last preseason, but you’d think if he was going to go well with more mid time, Mitchell being our last year was a time to shine.

Steven is back in the frame for me, and probably the type of player I’m normally drawn to, although I would probably be a bit more comfortable if it was just an injury issue and/or if he’d had an uninterrupted run this preseason.
Darkie, Wingard has recently fallen out of my team. Steven was a player I thought would be first picked by me and was for a large part and may still turn out to be a good pick. His injury and role for the first part of the season are a turn off. I'm running the Winnie blues, dusty, heeney and TJL.

The combination of https://www.afl.com.au/news/367960/star-recruit-joins-growing-list-of-injury-concerns-for-cats plus others such as menegola being talked up for increased mid time makes me think I can hold off for a bit. I still may buy him during the season and wouldn't hesitate paying a bit more to wait for the CBA#'s to increase first. Wingard despite being more expensive is going to start with higher CBA's which all being equal should mean more points.

FWIW Wingard came out for Houston. I'm bullish on both Steven and Wingard being in the top 6 scorers for the latter half of the season. A move of Heeney down to Wingard is not off the cards yet if I need to sink some more money into the rookies. If I can swing Breun manouver on TJL just after the byes and Richmonds streak of mcg matches into Steven I just might be onto something...

TLDR, I'm not saying no to Steven overall, I just think that there are some injury and role challenges for first half of the year.

Great colour, thank you. I gather Scott has recently said that they “see him as an inside mid” or similar - although on reflection, that’s no guarantee that he plays predominantly that role early in the year. Would love to see him flying in preseason to feel a bit more confident.

Just remember, don't let the Marsh series influence your team to much, stay strong to your original squad and playing group but watch for role changes to players and those sporting what looks a new lease of life or opportunity.

My team hasn't changed once and I'm staying true to my word.

Hahaha...You beat me to the punch as I was in the process of doing a post WEEK I Marsh Team, though am a little disappointed that you couldn't find a spot for H Clark, J Walker, Viney, McCluggage, TMac, Schache, Vandenberg, Rozee or SPP...:p

What's worrying is that you could make a point nearly for each of them, mostly. Narkle would've been interesting if he had Fwd status

I don't know were I went wrong with this team but it just looks bad View attachment 15844
It's all the expensive first-year rookies. Hill and Ash on the bench makes it look worse than it is. It would be bad if you had to start RD1 like this but it's not bad to be like this now, as you just trade them down to the better options when they appear and make the best improvements you can with the money that's freed up.

The only thing I would question is the absence of Marlion Pickett?
Put him in and winner, winner, chicken dinner.

just added Macrae & Neale in for the first time , hopefully have the right balance

1-2-5
5-0-6
GG & Co
1-2-5

= 9-4-17

Given the likely amount of rookies in both defence & forward under $ 200k likely to be named Round 1 , I think 4 deep in either line limits your options too much , just my opinion.

Especially the forward line where their seems to be about 25 players capable of being Top 8.

Might be easier to recognise after 4-6 rounds.

I'm not sure about defence - watching Starcevich yesterday I think he'll see a few NEAFL games before a call up unless injury plays it part, McLennan I don't think will start and doubts around Butts even with a cool name.

Rookies are worrying me a little but still a couple of weeks to play out.
