I think he's definitely scoring high 90's if he's getting 75% mid time last year and 76% tog. I think he played better last year to still average 85 with 52% mid time, his game is built around clearances, contested possessions and tackles so he is definitely scoring a lot more points in the guts. Danger scored 134 points per every 100 mins in the midfield and 82 for every 100 mins forward, even if we say Greenwood scored 115 points for every 100 mins midfield and 75 for every 100 mins forward (overall for the year he still averaged .96 points per minute) he's still scoring .4 more points per extra minute in the midfield. He gets 22 extra minutes in the middle with 25% more time in the middle with him playing 88 minutes per game and that's worth about 8.8 points and then add in 5 for more time on ground.

I'm usually with you on the late career spikes but he only started playing AFL again in 2016 after trying to play basketball for several years. You can't compare him to a guy who played state leagues until he was 23 and then put up 3 or 4 consistent years of the same scores. He's newer to the game and has spoken a lot about how much he's developed since 2016.

We just don't have an example like him and I think there's context around him that differentiates him from a regular player you're hoping to breakout to high 90's at age 27.

I also started Boak :ROFLMAO: last year because even though he was turning 31, he was coming off an 88 average with 24% mid time and was going to return to being a full time mid - I thought he would average 95 and in the end the result was a complete fluke.
We can probably agree to disagree on the reasoning re Greenwood's scoring potential. You now have the alternate perspective.

I highlight the bolded part though which probably sets out why I'm not a fan. He's more of a "the exception" pick. I personally am more of a sucker for the "fallen premium" or the 3rd/4th/5th year "breakout" player. Also a bit of a sucker for the injury prone but high scoring potential type player. I struggle a bit more with the late career spike/role change/new club/second year breakout type players. Historically, I've missed out on late career spike guys like Kade Simpson, Hurn, Boak type players as a result. Have sometimes picked the role change/new club guys (Marshall/D.Smith) but generally only when they're younger. Have never picked a second year breakout (i.e. Fyfe, Bont and Oliver). Just a different playing style perhaps.

I should add that if I need any money for rookies I’m trading him down to Tom Lynch despite Lynch’s bad bye and the fact it might cost me a donut during the byes.

Wingard is another option who is slightly more expensive but I find it hard to trust him.
He has a slightly better bye.

If I need Roberton the plan is to get Lynch in for Greenwood and Dusty in for Whitfield or Zerrett in for JKelly.

He is an expendable part of my side.
I would prefer TJLynch to Greenwood. Wingard, I'm not sold on and worry about his soft tissue injury history.

I like your Roberton/Lynch/Dusty side to your Def Rookie*/Greenwood/Whitfield side.

Yeah we can definitely agree to disagree :)

I think you have a valid point with the older players not usually being good spike picks. I never try to pick breakouts in 27+ year olds who have been in football leagues their whole career as they probably would have broken out by now if they were to, I just see Greenwood as a player whose exposure to AFL/football has been limited and whose sample size as a scorer is quite small. Remember he didn’t play AFL at all from ages 15-23. He’s not an ideal pick at all and has risks but I think he’s decent.

A lot of this is playing style and how you go about picking players. I generally pick forwards and some midfielders who I think are underpriced because they’ll get a significant jump in mid time. This means occasionally picking players in the older age brackets I would usually avoid. With Boak he’d actually improved his scoring in 2018 from 2017 with a lot less time in the midfield and with the large amount of positive news from the club in the preseason and the promise of a midfield role I figured this was part of a two year process of Boak turning his career back around. Very lucky in the end with the final result. This is also my logic in picking Danger this season. Somebody like Mundy on the other hand, even with the promise of mid time, was too old for me.

I can only get on board this approach with older players set to get more midfield time (and turning 31 at max) as I’ve been against getting guys like Hurn and Houli.

With the Rob/Dusty/Lynch it sounds good but that bye would be growing completely out of control for me as I’d have 8 guys, might be doable but then Trac would need to become Greenwood :ROFLMAO:

Deji, welcome to the site ! Very solid team you've put together there, I like the idea of going lighter in the DEF line in order to have strong mid/ruc/fwd which is what you have done. If any of your risky backline picks don't come through at least you have an abundance of decently priced players to pick from as replacements. I think this type of team can score well to begin with.

with the Injuries/Interruptions to the Essendon mids , all eyes on Parish tomorrow night , might be his turn to shine
I was surprised to find out that Parish is actually 3rd out of all of this years forwards for PPM in 2019 with only 73% time on ground, partially due to an injury. The year prior he had 79% time on ground.

The prospectus says he only attended 24% of Essendon's centre bounces but had the best centre bounce differential of the top 125 attendees, and he is rated above average for cp's.

The issue with selecting him is that it might be difficult to find success in Essendon's midfield at the same time as Dev Smith finds success and that one or the other might stop the other from being a premium in the forward line. After Zerrett, Shiel and Heppell I'd say Smith is 4th in line for CBA's and Parish 5th and although both are capable of going 90+ I'd be nervous starting both.

Still think he's a good pick but I'm hesitant to pick him alongside Smith.

Thanks my pleasure, before marsh series I did have 3 premos in my defence sic, houston, doc but now the hype of petracca has got to me, yeah roberton is one too look at... I’m gonna closely monitor him and how he goes in the marsh game you’d probably want a 80+ avreage from him kinda similar to Darcy Moore last year which really benefitted made 150k+ from him. But yeah we’ll have to see in the next couple of gams if any rookies put their hand up cause I’m just trying to bench as many low scoring rookies in my fwd line

if greenwood comes out and scores another 100+ it will be hard not to pick him

G'day guys long time follower first time poster

Here's my current team that I've come up with and its a team that I am relatively happy as long as the rookies are going to play, they're probably most likely to change, I'd say its fairly similar to others teams and i'm keen to know your thoughts SC Team 26022020.PNG
Left over money is $31,900

Defenders - I'm pretty set on Laird & Hill as well as Houston if he keeps up the midfield minutes.

Mids - Rowell and Pickett are locked for me, I'd be happy with any 5 of the top 9 mids as well as Oliver, TKelly. I really want to squeeze in Danger for TKelly but this is the 5 i have at the moment.

Rucks - Grundy is a absolute must have and won't be leaving my side, Gawn on the other hand i'd be happy to not have him and take someone like Reilly O'Brien i feel like his ceiling is quite big but i have Gawn at the moment because its the safer option.

Fwd - Whitfield and Martin haven't left my side since day one but I'm not 100% locked on dusty, i know dusty is a slow starter but finishes his seasons so strong so could be a trading target for me. Greenwood is someone who has came in recently who i feel is just going to thrive in the suns midfield and be a contested beast. Jack Steven / Devon Smith at this point I'm going to be starting one of them, just not sure on which one!

Very solid team, just have to wait and see what rookies pop up for round 1.
