Gawn went on a run at the wrong time for you
He was averaging 119 and had dropped $50k by R8. Then averaged 151 over the next 5 games around the byes and was $706k by his bye. Low point R6 $640k after averaging 114 to that point.
He had dropped to $620k by R22 averaging 124 then got that 212 in the last round that added 4ppg to his average and $20k to his price this year.
At $700k he needs a solid 3-4 week run going at 130+ to maintain the lofty price subject to whether he decides to pull out another 212 early.
Barring injury, maximum Gawn I would expect to drop would be $50k, that's being conservative IMO also.
Let's say Naismith averages 85, makes ~ $150k roughly to byes, plays every game, same role, Buddy back by this stage well and truly so again pretty conservative. That's $250k you need to come up with to get him in if that's the plan.
Looking at this years rookies and their scoring potential this looks a challenge, remember, whilst your trading and whoring this money to get Gawn you're not making any upgrades elsewhere in your team.
Like I said, I'm still debating which way to go, I had a team I didn't mind this morning with Naismith but I've reverted back to Gawn/Grundy.
Gawn went under 100 3 times last year, once due to an ankle injury and 4 times the year before with 2 in the 90's. He's not the type to give you a window to grab him at bargain base price like a lot of midfielders, and even if he does drop more you'll likely still need cash saved and a good plan in place to grab at the right time because when he does start going North again, he usually does it pretty quick.
