Another Original v Cover, who does it better?

I was with my younger sister-in-law a few years ago and Gary Jules version of Mad World came on the radio and she told me how much she liked the song. I tried to tell her that it was a cover of 80’s pop duo Tears for Fears and she didn’t believe me!

I have to admit I like Gary’s version, and in particular, the film clip.

I must admit that once I entered my twenties, music played a back role in my life for a long time. So I am hearing these songs for the first time and I find it hard to separate them. The styles are so different, but both done well. Gary's clip is good!

We continue on the countdown of my top 5 personal favourite tracks of all time tonight with a track that was released in 1991.

This track comes from my favourite band and is very popular for good reason.

Their album ‘Nevermind’ is probably my favourite album of all time.

Other tracks that would undoubtedly feature in my top 100 tracks of all time are ‘Lithium’, ‘Heart Shaped Box’ and ‘Come As You Are’.

At number 2 here’s Nirvana with ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’

Attending an all boys catholic secondary college, only had 3 brothers, I was very girl shy as a teenager, but I managed to get the nerve to ask a girl out to the movies. We held hands in the train from the Melbourne cinema and I even got a kiss, my first love . This song was on the charts at the time and when I hear this song, it always brings back those beautiful memories. (BTW, a couple of weeks later she dumped me because she met a guy who had a car :( ). This song, "The girl that I love" by Russell Morris, still gives me goose bumps :)

The look on her face at 24c is priceless ?

Next up in my personal top 5 favourite tracks of all time is a track which was released in 1998.
I’ve been a fan of electronic music from a young age and one of my favourite periods is late 90’s trance. This track is my favourite from that genre and period.
These days I don’t listen to trance as I much prefer progressive house and techno but I will always love late 90’s trance.

At number 4 here’s ‘Universal Nation’ by Push.

Haven’t heard that one bit I was into trance way back when as well and as I was listening to this I was thinking man this reminds me of a song but couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was.

As it turns out it was Lost In Love. Similar but not as similar as I thought so I could be thinking of something else.

A few other songs that I liked back then were
666 - amok
Beach ball
Twisted

Listening to that reminds me of one of my favourite times growing up; hanging out with mates, wiring up ridiculous sound systems to our sh*t heap cars and going cruising with techno blaring. Those were the days

Some good tunes there. Lost In Love is a classic and love Beachball too. Twisted has some catchy lyrics too. “You ain’t sex on legs, you’re dregs on legs, man”.

I remember losing my mind to Amokk when I used to go to the underage nightclubs. Another couple of popular ones from that period are:
