I was thinking tonight that I'm not surprised to see none of the more dominant recent female artists in the thread ..... Madonna, Shakira and Kylie etc.... some decent jingle songs for a year or two but none seem to last the ages ...

- Or it could just be our age demographics ...

Trying to mix it up a bit, but they are all songs in mine (or the kids) music collection.

How many songs of these lyrics do you know? No internet searching!

1. “Remember to let her into your heart, then you can start to make it better.”

2. “I met a gin-soaked, bar-room queen in Memphis, she tried to take me upstairs for a ride.”

3. “There was green alligators and long-necked geese”

4. “It's a little bit funny this feeling inside. I'm not one of those who can easily hide.”

5. “I got you, that’s all I want.”

6. “Something's wrong, shut the light. Heavy thoughts tonight and they aren't of Snow White”

7. “My mommy likes to sing along with me, But she won't sing this song if she reads all the lyrics. She’ll pity the men I know”

8. “Joe McCarthy, Richard Nixon, Studebaker, television”

9. “I met her on Grafton street right outside of the bar. She shared a cigarette with me, while her brother played the guitar.”

10. “The planes are a-crashin', the cars are a-smashin', the cops are a-bashin', oh yeah”

11. “When we reached the racks we'd each go our own way. I wasn't in his classes, I didn't know his name.”

12. “And I realize you're mine. Indeed a fool am I.”

13. “When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet”

14. “And spring became the summer. Who'd have believed you'd come along.”

15. “In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees”

16. “I'm worse at what I do best and for this gift I feel blessed”

17. “So what do you do? Oh yeah I wait tables too. No, I haven't heard your band ‘cause you guys are pretty new”

18. “On the way the paper bag was on my knee. Man I had a dreadful flight.”

19. “My father was a gamblin' man down in New Orleans”

20. “Gonna give you all my love, boy. My fear is fading fast. Been saving it all for you ‘cause only love can last.

I'm thinking because we are males. It might be different if females were selecting songs.
There are many female artists songs that last the ages in my mind? :) like:

"Non, Je ne regrette rien" Song by Edith Piaf (also called the Little Sparrow).
