I love how even knowing this thread is predominately your competition, you are asking for advice from those you will be directly against.

You will likely get plenty of answers too!
Not as big of a deal as it may initially seem from my research .... the first 100 players are auctioned so you get what you are "prepared" to pay for them ...

After that it is a snake draft ... and you get what you pay for at a known price ...

Alright, it seems we are getting close now!

Does anyone have a clear strategy for this comp? First time in a keeper league for me ... let alone one with so many bells and whistles!

Any traps for new players that we should watch out for?
In my research I noted that the none of the 2017 - 2019 draft years had 40 players that played in the first round ... so need to revisit the draft order shortly to see what I could possibly get out of them ...
One of my learnings from my other keeper league (no salary or contracts) is don't underestimate the draft classes. We are now only into our 4th year, but teams that have done their research and drafted well out of 'that years draft class' definitely prepared themselves for long term success. Now it all comes down to where you are in the premiership window, etc. Like year one of our other league I was pushing for the flag and played off in the Grand Final, that year I traded my 1st Round Pick to Ken, and had also moved on my 2nd Rounder for a later 2nd Rounder. In the last two years, particularly this year I needed to refresh my list so went mighty hard at top end draft talent.

It won't necessarily be about having blokes who played Round 1. I think you'll still see players drafted in our league who might've been on AFL lists for 2-3 years and yet to play a game.

Draft doc looks amazing! Just having another quick through the rules and wanted to clarify something:

"At no time can a team exceed the salary cap."

Does this apply only to the current year? E.g. my team can be projected to be over the cap in future years, I would just be required to trade to bring myself under the cap during the o***eason before that season begins?

Must be compliant during all seasons being played.

This is precisely the part I feel it is a big deal, however it will all come down to each coaches view on players and strategy.

If you help a fellow league member, and they end up on a similar strategy to you. It could mean you will both be prepared to pay similar amounts for similar player.

Agree you will get what you are prepared to pay, however getting players well under what you are prepared to pay is a huge win!

Haha - let’s just say on other sites, I wouldn’t necessarily be expecting any useable thoughts, but this one tends to be different!

Appreciate the thoughts everyone. Not sure I’m a threat in the near term so I suspect the main impact of your advice is just having a more engaged newbie or two in the mix ?

Introducing the TailsPower team that has also acquired a licence to expand its fantasy sports involvement into the inaugural SuperCoach Scores Ultimate League (SCSUL).

This coincides with the franchise vision of gradually expanding its exposure across multiple sporting disciplines which now incorporates four AFL variations along with the recent BBL, IPL and NBA acquisitions....

We are also pleased to announce that we have recently modified our team logo courtesy of @Bermi enterprises to better encapsulate our origins of the Port Adelaide Football Club. The team song will remain unchanged and the team Guernseys are still work in progress as we speak.

The upcoming draft is a new experience for us all but our analytics staff have been working fervently in the background to hopefully empower us with the ability to recruit a suitable playing list that meets our clubs strident cultural, due dilegence and performance expectations.

- As you can imagine the raft of 2019 rule changes coupled with this years modified schedule and reduced game times have thrown a major spanner in the works that "might" require a whole new approach to list recruitment / management ...

So what is in a team name some new to the franchise may ask ....

Tails:

Miles Prower ... also better known by his nickname Tails is the team head coach.

- He debuted in October 1992 as an intelligent 8 year old two-tailed male fox in the Sonic the Hedgehog Sega video game.

- He came with an IQ of 290 and was Sonic's best friend and deuteragonist sidekick until Sonic allegedly took up an allegiance with the Adelaide Football Club.

- His name is a pun on "miles per hour". He is a mechanical genius and skilled pilot that is able to use his two tails to propel himself into the air like a helicopter for a limited time. Think along the lines of Jeremy Howe ....

- When in flight, he could move at incredible speeds reaching that of 768 Mph, and at his peak could even go fast enough to keep up with Sonic.

Power:

Well apart from the obvious affiliation with the Port Adelaide Football Club ... Knowledge is Power and Tails needs Power to operate ...
- Recent acquisitions include back up power generation ...

Who are our major sponsors ....

Sponsorship:

- AC/DC ... popular Australian derived rock band that supplies the Power
- Future options include Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Credence, Deff Leppard, INXS, Poison and Shania Twain etc ... work in progress !!

- Powerade supplies team sport supplements

Do we have any new merchandise this year ...

Yes we do ... the 2020 TailsPower playlist edition includes the following thematic / motivation songs ....

- Who Made Who (AC/DC)
- Thunderstruck (AC/DC)
- High Voltage (AC/DC)
- Here I go Again (Whitesnake)
- Never Tear us Apart (INXS)
- We don't need another Hero (Tina Turner - Thunderdome)
- Keep the Faith (Bon Jovi)
- Nothin but a Good Time (Poison)
- The Gambler (Kenny Rogers)
- Highway To Hell (AC/DC)
- Hells Bells (AC/DC)
- Under Pressure (Queen)
- Blaze of Glory (Bon Jovi)
- Poison (Alice Cooper)
- Copperhead Road (Steve Earle)
- Love in an Elevator (Aerosmith)
- Pour Some Sugar on Me (Deff Leppard)
- All Fired Up (Pat Benator)
- Kickstart my Heart (Motley Crue)
- Eye of the Tiger (Survivor)
- Get this Party Started (Pink)

Conclusion:

- Stay tuned for the new release of our Home and Away Guernseys ... might be employing the services of @Bermi enterprises again to bring them into the new age rather than relying on boring old stripes and colours ...

- Everything else has been plugged in, batteries recharged etc and we are now ready to strap ourselves in, select a team and get this party started ....
Great stuff!

Am I right in thinking that we have a trial run at 8pm today?

Is it just a matter of entering numbers in the Google sheet at the right time to participate in the trial, or are there other systems I should have open?

Good question. I went to the other site, but couldn’t see anything there.

Yes, that was the plan.

Open up the chat feature in the Google sheet, so that we can say Begin and Sold. Some means of counting down 90 seconds would be great (i.e. countdown feature on your mobile phone)

Nice one, thanks!

Top right corner for anyone looking, think it was the white circle just on top of the participants logos (eg @KLo30’s jellyfish!).

Great little session then testing out the Auction & Draft document.

Firstly, massive shout out and thanks to Ken. An incredible amount of time and effort into putting this together and it looks and works very well.

Ideally tomorrow I think we will all try to get onto a zoom call, and have a screen shared central timekeeping clock.
Reports from those involved in the zoom was that it worked quite well, and you didn't yet have a clock shared. So should work even better with a clock. This will then allow Ken to announce the start and stop, as well as any additional time that may be added and everyone will be in the know.

100% - thanks to Ken and Tim for all the hard work in putting this together. I thought the trial tonight was well worthwhile ... should mean we are well set up for kickoff tomorrow night!

Clarification for the initial draft.

Contract Structuring: Initial Draft
- Initially, there will be approximately 10 players (~25%) from the initial draft who would be eligible for contract structuring with teams. Over time this number will naturally increase.
- Teams may structure auction draft players acquired as they see fit, however the sum total of contracts in the first year must not fall below the sum of the average salaries, and adhere to the 50% rule.

- A maximum of 9 players may be taken per team in the auction draft section.

50% rule: Salaries cannot fall below nor exceed 50% of the average yearly salary in any one season. (FA and RFA)

Teams would be very unlikely to be able to satisfy the rule in future seasons, if it's not satisfied in the initial season.

An extremely useful session (thanks heaps for it) and some general observations that woke me up ... just had these nagging thoughts in the back of my mind that woke me up .... yep I have one of those minds that won't let something go if it doesn't seem right or make sense to me.

I make these observations on several fronts .... will use Worpel as an example and try to articulate my thoughts as best that I can in text:

1. Are the 2017 draft year (top end players) priced out of the draft for multiple year contracts ....

- On a one year deal he looks to be worth $533,775 (SCCKL) which is different to his actual SC price of $527,000 (inflated a touch but no big deal). Which price are we using .... I thought it was the SC one (clarification sought for my spreadsheet set up across most players)

- Even a one year contract starts at an inflated price in normal SC terms due to the MN but am aware we are playing a different game here ...

- But for a 2+ year contract to me he is almost unobtainable at the projected prices

- Of my short listed top end players from this draft class that this would also probably apply to are Kelly, Mihocek, Clark, Brayshaw etc off the top of my head .... had to adjust my spreadsheet tonight as I'd budgeted on their respective single year prices only (not the multiple year projected ones)

- I'm not overly concerned about missing out on any of them (well maybe) but could only offer single year contracts as otherwise I'd probably be better off waiting a year to see if they are still on the open market at more appropriate prices ...

1590604247487.png

2. However, this is will also apply to subsequent draft classes and is food for thought as to how long you can hold on to these rookies ...

- Which brings me to "in season" contract extensions (thinking 2018 draft class for now) .... what prices will they be based off ... probably missed it somewhere in the rules ...

3. Something else I have negated to also mention from my research:

- I think Callum Brown (GWS) is incorrectly priced in your master spreadsheet

- Only other discrepancies I "might" have stumbled across (haven't double checked) were the 2019 averages for Lynch (RIC), Reid (COL) and Williams (WBD) but to be honest these really made no "overall" difference to me ...
