Nice stats @Tails - I reckon you’ve done pretty well for yourself there.

I wouldn’t have let Boak slip through at that price if I’d been paying attention!
Really interesting picking up on everyones different tactics and strategies both throughout the auction tonight, and looking back now at where everyone stands. Really interesting stuff.

My brain has gone to mush now at 1130pm, just to quickly confirm for the 2017 when we get to it tomorrow, if say we get a get a player for a 3 year deal with a average price of say $400,000 per year we can decide on how to split and backend/frontend of just average etc the $1,200,000 total over the next three years, correct?

We'll get an even better picture once teams enter the salaries into their team sheet. (That's a hint by the way, as it will need to be finalised by early Saturday morning)

Average salary per player and contract years available will be contrasting.

Yes, to the contract structure.

We will draft that section on Saturday (well that was the initial plan), so you have time to get your head around that.

We could alter the rules a little and draft the 2017 Draft class and then have teams lock in all contracts before doing 2018 and 2019 Draft Classes on Saturday, if teams feel this is the best way to go about it and have the time tomorrow night.

Options are to either...

1. Average -> e.g. $400,000, $400,000, $400,000

2. Front End -> More at the beginning, decreasing across the years.

3. Back End -> Less at the beginning, increasing across the years.

Front and Back end figures are determined by formula, @KLo30 could explain those calculations better than I could.

I regret giving up so easily on the bidding for Dunkley early, certainly a lot of overpaying later when mids became more scarce! Dunkley a big bargain so far I think.
Yeah that was one of my takeaways after a short review of tonight. Dunkley well unders, a great get from the Dogs supporting @Jordan's Jets.

Yeah I was the last one left in the Dunkley bidding war and given it was early thought I could get a better deal later. But in hindsight, everyone had the same idea and this started bidding wars for some of the lesser players!

Taranto being the highest paid mid is an interesting result but it seems you have a plan in mind!

Clarification for the initial draft.

Contract Structuring: Initial Draft
- Initially, there will be approximately 10 players (~25%) from the initial draft who would be eligible for contract structuring with teams. Over time this number will naturally increase.
- Teams may structure auction draft players acquired as they see fit, however the sum total of contracts in the first year must not fall below the sum of the average salaries, and adhere to the 50% rule.

- A maximum of 9 players may be taken per team in the auction draft section.

50% rule: Salaries cannot fall below nor exceed 50% of the average yearly salary in any one season. (FA and RFA)

Teams would be very unlikely to be able to satisfy the rule in future seasons, if it's not satisfied in the initial season.
Sorry @KLo30 could you please clarify this one again. Why is there approximately only 10 players eligible for contract structuring in the first year?

Also what does “the sum total of contracts in the first year must not fall below the sum of the average salaries” mean exactly?

Does that mean in the first year the price bid in the auction has to be the amount paid in the first year of the contract and structuring is permitted for the second year and afterwards? (or have I misinterpreted this).

10 players was a guide based on even distribution. 6 players in Rounds 1 - 6 and 4 players in Rounds 7 - 10. Helpful for planning a strategy. Reality is obviously different with different strategies being employed.

“the sum total of contracts in the first year must not fall below the sum of the average salaries”
Let's say Team X has won 6 players at a $1M each (average salary) for a total of $6M. They can structure the contracts how they like, within the 50% margin, front or back end or a variation of those strategies. Team X's 2020 structure might look like this:
Player A: $1,500,000 (max)
Player B: $500,000 (min)
Player C: $1,200,000
Player D: $800,000
Player E: $1,100,000
Player F: $900,000
Total:____$6,000,000
There is flexibility, however you have to pay the full price for your players in Rounds 1 - 6.

NB. This does not apply to Rounds 7 - 10. This is where you can be creative.
