To @Rowsus and @jaca:
If what you have written makes just one person stop and think about racism, then I reckon you have achieved something good.
Agreed.

I personally have always viewed racism/tribalism slightly different to most in that it follows my line of thinking regarding every living thing on the planet which is, that a person doesn't need to like another living thing in order to respect it and understand that it's life, quality of life, and rights to live freely are just as important to that person/creature as it is to myself.

I am often surprised just how many people don't grasp the basic concept: Support the rights of others (regardless of personal/individual feelings towards them) and expect that they in turn will support yours and then all parties receive the mutual benefit of such collaboration.

As with everything meaningful humans have ever achieved, we are all stronger when we work together, that idea alone if believed breaks down walls.

Hi Rowsus.

I know you're a smart bloke, so I know this post comes from a place of well meaning and good intent. However, in my humble opinion, it's wrong.

There is a long and nuanced discussion to be had here, and likely a fantasy football forum is not the right platform. So, I'll give my few sentences worth and move on.

First observation: all lives should matter.

Second observation: there is little evidence to suggests that white lives are not considered important. Let's look at boardrooms, to political parties, academic institutions - through to prison cells.

Third observation: for some people, black lives don't matter at all.

Until black lives matter to everyone, we cannot be in a place where all lives matter.

Be mindful of the implications of telling a black person what they meant to say.

With love and respect.

Jaca.
Hi jaca,
thank you to you, and the others that have responded, for your well thought out and carefully worded response.
Without wanting to open a long dialogue, and weigh this thread down with too much non football matters, I am interested in your opinion.
Do you think Napear deserved to be sacked for tweeting "All Lives Matter"?
Also, with your last point "Be mindful of the implications of telling a black person what they meant to say.", I hope you don't think I was trying to put words in peoples mouths. I was more asking that they maybe people consider what other people said came from a position of where they were currently at, and they weren't trying to change another persons opinion. Maybe an opportunity exists to explain to that person the thoughts of someone more directly affected. I don't think, when it is as "innocent" and well intended as this was, that it should lead to him being sacked, and a 30 year reputation left in tatters. Just my thoughts, but I recognise that others may think and feel differently.

Big Coxy is one of my favourite players of all time... Stoked he has been inducted... Very well deserved!!

Reminds me... I have one of his actual jumpers which I'm still yet to get him to sign, Was planning on going to Swans training at Optus when Sydney flew over this year but that's out the window now, lol

To be honest, I've only just looked into the Napear case.

He was actually asked for his opinion by a former Kings player, DeMarcus Cousins:

Napear responds with the following:

To my untrained, white eye, it reads as an uneducated view, but I'd agree not one that he should be fired for. But then Cousins responds:

Another former Kings players, Matt Barnes (edit: and Chris Webber) responds:

So, it seems there was more to it in terms of history. It was likely unfair on Boogie to call him out, but (reading between the lines on tweets and elsewhere) it seems he has had a problematic relationship at best, with Kings' black players.

I'm glad Jaca added the context to the Napear sacking as I was going to point out that your original post Rowsus had absolutely no context attached to it. Taking the context of his tweet in to account (and the history behind it) I think it was a good decision for him to be sacked.

Maybe your reaction is a great example of the message you were trying to get across.

BREAKING NEWS: 3 (Further) Roosters are struggling with temperatures 30 minutes before the game.

Huge, Huge ramifications for all Fantasy formats. This will happen in AFL, no doubt.

Nervous times.
Ouch! Maybe for this year we could have more than one emergency on each line.
