He could be a surprised POD
Depends on his starting price, I might get him in if there is room
Watts has resigned, and has said that he might play midfield :O Thoughts?
Personally I won't be having him in my side, and I don't think the midfield will work for him. Will be a very poor mans Jarryd Roughead when he plays mid.

Just a small point and I'm not a spelling Nazi, but could we use 're-signed' instead of 'resigned', if a player 're-signs'. I nearly lost my corn flakes all over the dog when I read Watts had 'resigned'. My immediate thought, was we'd lost another number one draft pick.

Your write soidog. No nazi-ing required but we would expect their to be a certain standard here :p

On Watts -

The club's hopes of retaining him received a major boost when it appointed Paul Roos as coach. Roos immediately declared Watts a required player.

"It was pretty big [in my decision]," Watts said.

"To have someone of his stature and even just to be able to talk to him for five minutes and see his vision of where we're going and what kind of person he is – that made the decision a lot easier."

Watts admits his first discussions with Roos had been "encouraging".

"It's been really encouraging. He sees me as a bit of midfielder and a bigger body and I feel like I can get my hands on the ball a bit more than I have, I can have a lot more impact on my game."

"That was pretty exciting to hear that from him.
Averaged 76 with 2 tons in 2013. I think that has him in the 360-410k range?

Interesting about Watts in midfield.
Roos transform Ryan O'Keefe from a HFF into an elite midfielder so anything is possible.
Roos was also the coach who saw potential in Brett Kirk who would have been delisted by Eade had he stayed.

Jack Watts a midfielder!

Is this just Roos trying to boost Watts confidence? Or perhaps Roos thinking if Watts has a bad day I will throw him in the middle for a couple of minutes to get a kick?

He could maybe pinch hit in the middle like Pav did a few years ago but honestly I can't see it happening.

Moral boosting more like it.
But Roos being Roos, he's possibly the coach to transform Watts into a midfielder.
Ryan O'Keefe was a half forward flanker and Roos transformed him into an elite Midfielder.

Docherty worth a look if he gets to Carlton, especially if Scotland retires. Priced at an average of 52 (thanks to Voss and subbing), but could see him pushing an 80-85 average which is great for a mid priced defender.

A possibility. Will see his preseason first.

I added an important word. O'Keefe has always been a quality player whereas there are still huge question marks over Watts so the challenge would be far greater for Roos to make him a quality mid.

So true.
Watts not on the same level.

Without putting any thought into it at all, would he be best 22? Would be a very decent pick if so (and not sub every week).

I think he'll be in Blues best 22 but I think his starting price might deter picking him.

Locked if Scotland retires. I think he's definitely ahead of guys like Menzel, Lucas and Bootsma there and they got games throughout the year.

A former #12 draft pick.
Likely to be in Blues best 22.
Priced at 52 ave.
Opportunities galore for regular games with Bootsma and Scotland in doubt.
Potential of scoring 80-85 each week (close to being a D6 keeper).
In a new role at a new club in his home state.
Malthouse obviously rates the kid.

That has 'value pick' written all over it.

Yep, Docherty is an example of how lacking in coaching judgement Voss was imo.

You'd like to think there would be a rookie priced player who could match Docherty's output for $150k less. He'll be very awkwardly priced for a player only in really his second senior level playing season.

I think everyone will be keen to see in preseason the plans MM has for Docherty. Awkwardly priced no doubt.

Rookie defenders tend to be **** though.

Agreed. Very rarely does a Brett Goodes come along in the backline.

Other popular starting backline rookies in 2013 included Pittard & Stevenson who, if I recall correctly, averaged mid 60's?

Docherty is far from a lock for me, but knowing how fickle backline rookie scoring can be, he's certainly in the mix for consideration.
