1) What does he need to average to be worth picking? I'd say 90 as a possible stepping stone.
2) How many times has he scored that? 9/71.
3) So what do you think is the likelihood that he achieves that average? I'd say about 1%.
4) Name another C grade key fwd that has been a quality mid priced selection?

Hope he has a big pre-season so people jump on him. Those people will be regretting it very quickly.

We are back to the Gunston conundrum. With Buddy gone it would seem that he slips to Number 2 defender BUT with the recruit of Big Boy McEvoy things might be different. McEvoy is the type of ruckman who can shoulder most of the workload. Don't quote me but something like 85% upwards. That means that David Hale could sit in the Buddy hole. Jarryd Roughead could pick up Number 1 defender depending how high he plays and Hale Number 2 defender. Personally I don't see any team putting their 2nd best defender on Gunston at 193cm when david hale is mobile ruckman at 201cm. Gunston could play across half forward like we saw in the finals and wear down his opponents with his huge aerobic capacity. He is turning 23 next year and his body is getting more football adjusted as he gets older. if everything i have said is true than this next year could be a breakout season for him. but certainly will keep two eyes on him throughout preseason and practice matches.

Certain to improve, just a question of how much. I reckon he'll average in the low 90s.

Stevie J must be a pure mid next season given he basically never played fwd. Bartel and Walker can't possibly be listed as fwds either based on this season.

Martin played fwd heaps - he'll definitely be a mid/fwd. Rockliff was a fwd quite a bit early in the season so will stay as a m/f unless they weigh the end of the season more, which is possible. Lewis is questionable but I think he'll stay as a dpp.

Agree there probably won't be many great options. If players are categorised how I expect then the top 10 defenders will score similarly to the top 10 fwds.

If martin and rockliff are categorised as MID/FWD then LOCK. It will be very interesting to see what happens with the forwards and defenders. this might be the year to spend more in defense if there are the additions of mcviegh, mitchell, walker, bartel.

There wasn't to many fwd rookies this year yo start round 1. Macaffer, and a port youngster, neade maybe?.
mid pricers/ discounted players: jjk and monfries.

I think next year there will be more fwd rookies to select for round 1 so there would be more funds for the backline if your willing to go with a few rookies up fwd.

The defense and forward structure may change in 2014 - with forwards being stocked with rookies and having 3 or 4 premiums. while defense has a lot of discounted players and less rookies.

Martin, Naitinui and Rockliff are fairly safe to keep their F-tag as well which leaves only one spot for a J. Gunston, a healthy C. Dixon, D. Thomas or a rejuvinated C. Sylvia..

Yeah i was think Dangerfield spent a fair bit of time moving forward this year, will be interesting to see if he regains dpp status next season, if he does then Lock.

CD won't give Dangerfield DPP, just like Ablett didn't get it in '10 when he kicked 48 goals for the season.

With so few premium forwards to choose from I reckon their is a fair chance at least one of the above can end the season in the top 6 forwards for the year.

The trick of course is picking which one plus deciding if the risk of trying to pick the right one is worth it.

Petrie would be a good POD out of that list. Pretty consistent this year, flew way under the radar and Kangas midfield is on its way to becoming elite if it isn't already, especially now they acquired Dal Santo, an elite user.
