I've seen this movie before. Mid priced, bought for cash generation. Scores well early and you think "this is my match winning move". Starts to tail off, but you have other problems. Starts losing cash, but you hold another week...."he's been pretty consistent, even if he's lost that premo level of form, he'll still score decently. Might lose 5k, bit I can live with that this week"

Do you want to know the ending? (This happened to me twice last year)

..
..
..
..

He cops a game ender in the first minute, finishing with a score around 5, and loses 100k and you're back to where you started, and you curse the supercoach gods and vow never to think a good performing mod priced "might just be a keeper".....until next time.

:)
Haha I have never done this before, you are 100% correct ! Lesson learnt

Played very well, JS wise, there a quite a few similar types that can play the pressure forward role. Not even sure if he'll be going to the hub, as Neill Balme has stated some older and younger players won't be going and would probably miss out anyway, so they can focus on 1 on 1 development with coaches that will stay back. He said they're taking players over that will help them win, not for development opportunities. Time will tell.
With half their team out now, surely holds...

Fingers crossed Fyfe is back. If he is, I can hold Rowell if it's only 3 weeks.

Then I might go:

Pitonett > Haynes (via Williams)
Brown > Aarts (via Smith)

Then I have $200k in the bank, which will help me get a mid premium next week and I can swing Smith back into the forwards

I think he is a near certainty to keep his spot for a month.

No Cotchin and Prestia at a minimum opens up two spots in midfield for either returning players or those in team to push up ground more.
Edwards and Houli not traveling means another two holes need to be filled.

Nankervis out is another hole that will probably not impact Aarts.

That is 5 changes before even thinking about Aarts, can't seem them choosing to make a 6th after his performance. Considering a few of those coming in were clearly considered not best 22 few days ago, I would suggest they would all be more susceptible to the axe than this kid in a fortnights time.

If he is on the plane, he is flying in to my side!
Thanks, he’s an interesting one ... mid 20s, under 180cm and 80kg but has apparently played six years in the VFL while working full time as a tradie, so I’m not surprised to hear he is super fit.

In the VFL he seemed to be a sort of 12 touches, one goal, a few tackles and a few marks kind of player, so I’m not expecting massive scoring, but if he plays another four games that might be enough to make good cash.

Wanted to shift Viney, might shift Rowell instead.

Looking at Laird and Whitfield as ins.
Viney has become a massive headache. I think I’ve learnt my lesson on these stepping stone types, something or rather happens and then you can’t trade them out as planned (I blame the best 18 bye round this season....)

I may have lost the plot but thoughts on Jack Steven?

Scores in 2020: 20, 36, 95
Price: $306,700
BE: 47

Looking further, his score was crucified against Melbourne but he actually found a lot of the ball (62 DT: 36 SC). You can also contend that a lack of fitness may explain the first shocker.

There was certainly pre-season hype around Steven before his injury, now we find him dirt cheap... a mere $70K more than Tyler Brown!

In a season where everyone is struggling to complete their teams, is this the sort of gamble we need to consider? We are paying $306,700 for a dual-position player who has the capability of averaging 80+ (conservative IMO) and may ultimately become the perfect F6/F7/M9 for many coaches.

Although having only played 10 matches since 2018 - to me, the biggest risk obviously lies with his durability. I am also cautious that he may plod around the awkward 60-70 mark which essentially results in a wasted trade that could have been used to fund a downgrade.
Now he is obviously nowhere near his B & F days at St Kilda, but his previous track record certainly proves his scoring potential.
  • 2015: 103.5 from 22
  • 2016: 102.1 from 22
  • 2017: 90.7 from 20
  • 2018: 94.5 from 22
At this stage I am seriously considering T. Brown > Steven. It may be a call that derails my 2020 campaign but we have to complete our teams somehow! Those are my early thoughts, I will enjoy reading the discussion that unfolds

Interesting!

I was very bullish on him in the pre season, but a lot has happened since.

His TOG has actually gone down season to date: 77, 70, 63.

Not sure if that’s a red flag, or indicates his scoring power, or both!

In my thoughts for sure, suspect I end up with him

If I'm going there (ie cheap cheap cheap, but who I expect to play and improve) then I have a few more to consider

Rayner - has he turned the corner? Absolute elite junior. Looks in the best shape he's ever been.

Keays - Highly rated supercoach machine jr. Never clicked at first club, just working into it at Adelaide.

Jack Riewoldt - I don't know why I'd consider him, but 9 seasons at >80 until last year's limited season. Lynch may be out. Will surely have a massive spike game somewhere. 257k

Joe Daniher - not this week, but travelling to the hub apparently, so may be close?

I’m pretty keen too but feel like you need good bench cover to bring him in. I feel like it’s almost certain he will be rested.

I think I’m gonna give him 1-2 more weeks more in any case for more info. If he’s really turned it around, he’ll still be value at 350-360k.

I watched him on the weekend on thought he was better but he looks very slow, often caught HTB...

Trying to get around to upgrades but I just keep having spot fires to deal with.

With Fyfe, Bennel and Robertson already warming the pine it has to be Rowell out really. No one ever lost SuperCoach by trading in Tom Mitchell so lets go with that.

And then Jake Aarts looks great and Richmond are missing half their midfield, so he comes in for Isaac Cumming who has been dithering away doing nothing for 3 weeks.

Means I'm still holding Noble, Brander, Tyler Brown, Budarick and all the rest giving me 20s-40s on field but what can you do? At least Neale didn't get 150 this week :p.
