Liam Ryan (2022) and Jack Petruccelle (2023) have re-signed with West Coast.

- Mitch Cleary, AFL.com.au
Good news... End of last year there was a bit of talk about Petruccelle heading back East, so good to see he decided to stay for 3 more years.

Ryan resigning is a no brainer.... Only just hit 51 games so still has plenty of improvement to come.

True, only their top draft picks as well. Here's a snippet.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, Head of Football Brady Rawlings listed Ben Cunnington, Todd Goldstein, Shaun Higgins and Jack Ziebell as the four players who would not be put up for trade.

On top of that, the Roos won’t be entertaining trades for their top draft picks either. They currently hold pick two as well as Melbourne’s first round selection.

North Melbourne has 23 players out of contract and Rawlings stated there are “big decisions to be made”.

Brown headlines that group of 23 that includes Jasper Pittard, Majak Daw, Mason Wood, Ben Jacobs, Jamie Macmillan, Paul Ahern, Ed Vickers-Willis, Taylor Garner, Sam Durdin and Marley Williams

Polec also seems to be on the outer and can’t find his way back into a depleted North Melbourne team.
To be brutally fair, there are only about 3 players amongst that lot, that would be top up players at other Clubs, the rest better start hoping the VFL comes calling.

So true, such a talent, this covid testing issue probably added to his existing thoughts of home sickness, family etc.
Tested positive for COVID and got ignorantly and ridiculously criticised by the media, opposition fans and the AFL, that was disgusting and a good enough reason for him to be turned off by the AFL community. Hopefully not turned off Australia as a whole though.

Interesting that their retirements come together. Both ended at Carlton in "suspicious" circumstances, in the midst of the worst tanking in AFL history. Who could ever forget the last game of the 2006 season being labeled the Bryce Gibbs Cup? The loser got to pick up Gibbs in the next draft. Essendon stuffed that up, and after tanking so many games, won the game, and lost the chance at getting Gibbs. Looking back, Essendon stuffed up twice, using pick 2 to take Scott Gumbleton, with Boak and Joel Sellwood slipping through to 5 and 7 respectively.

Gumby looked like he was going to be the next big thing though, I feel for dodo on that one as he probably made the right call without the wisdom of hindsight. There weren’t many 6’8 freak athletes running around back in the mid 00s.

Such a shame his Hammys were made of silly string.
