Neale v Gawn as Captain

I need advice here to make league prelim final.

I am 57 points up with Neale to go. My opponent has Greenwood, Mccluggage and Budarick to go. Budarick needs to score 77 points or more and my 57 points up will be decreased but I can't see that happening as his score under 77 will not count.

My dilemma is do I leave it that way be up 57 points with Gawn as captain and Neale to go versus Greenwood and Mccluggage. My opponent has Gawn as captain and can't change it.

Or do I take the punt and make Neale captain instead of leaving it as it is 57 points up plus Neale score to come is better than Greenwood and Mccluggage score to come. If I make Neale captain every point over 132 is a bonus every point under isn't a bonus.

Basically my question is do I make Neale captain and hope he scores over 132 or leave Gawn as captain.

Looks like you will more than likely lose if you don’t take the punt.

So it is Neale + 57 or (Neale x 2) - 75 v Greenwood + McCluggage?

Think you are likely losing either way. Got to risk it though. Neale has scored below 132 4 times this season, and above 10 times. Go for Neale.

That is the situation if you make Gawn captain. The other option I listed was your score if you captain Neale - you would currently be 75 behind, but you get Neale's score to count twice.

I see what you mean if I make Neale captain I would be 75 behind but his score would double which is what I am doing.

If Williams / Simpkin are the ones that need trading then who to go for?

Cerra vs Maynard vs Crisp

Pretty damn hard to separate them. I have 2 Freo players already and don't usually like picking a breakout player during their breakout as there's some level of unnecessary risk. Crisp might be slightly more volatile but also might be more in form than Maynard.

I’m looking at the other end of the spectrum at the 400k end for my potential Doch / ZWilliams replacements haha.

I think Crisp as he’s been in quite strong form of late and has better scoring history than the others.

I think I would favour Crisp here too. 3 sub-70 scores this season are a concern, excluding those he is a top 6 defender this year. Maynard is in his worst form of the sesson in recent weeks, but overall has had a great year. Cerra has a lot of poor games o***et by spike games, but does seem to be improving.

He has been mentioned elsewhere, but depending on home many trades you have, I would consider a punt on Rich over any of these three at a cheaper price.

I was really favouring Crisp until I broke down the scores and realised that Maynard has really been the better player all year up until the last two weeks.

Crisp has more history but I feel like he’s really just a low 90’s avg player with a fair bit of volatility to his scoring (especially in 2019) Maynard is less proven and is having a late break out season but could be a 100avg type player from here onwards.

It’s very close but I’m leaning towards Maynard just because he’s been better for most of the season up until the last two games.

I'll add that if it weren't for Crisp being as volatile as he seemingly is then I would favour him over Maynard. In the past 3 years including finals he's had scores of: 79, 78, 73, 71, 71, 71, 68, 67, 66, 65, 64, 63, 62, 62, 58, 56 & 50
That's 17/65 scores below 80 & 11/65 scores below 70.
Maynard has 2/15 scores below 80 and 1/15 scores below 70 this season.

In that sense I think that Crisp's history of being a more proven premium than Maynard is partially undone by his in season volatility. His history of being more reliable is intertwined with a lack of reliability on a game per game basis. This is only really an issue because it's a pick for two games and volatility can hurt in such a small sample size, or really pay off if he has a good game.

Yeah it’s a real toss of the coin. I think I just like Crisp’s GC matchup this round, reckon he’ll probably go big again immediately, which is probably what you want from a trade in!

Maynard won’t disappoint either I think.

Sounds like you are pretty keen, have you chatted to @PC about this topic?
Not yet haha maybe I should....?

Wingard will likely come in for me unless both ZWilliams and Doch are out and JMartin plays... I’d still almost prefer to still get Wingard and play Rivers over JMartin haha

I reckon I just recall a bit of a post in the Rant thread not so long ago about this topic ;)
