Just looking through super cheap FWDs at the moment seeing if there's anyone who could go bang in the last two rounds, to stumble across big Mitch Lewis. Averaging 29.5 at the moment, will be near on rookie priced next year. Had injury and form troubles this year, hopefully with a decent preseason he'll get some confidence back and could be a handy FWD rookie for next year, averaged 67.6 in 2018, and could even potentially grab himself an injury discount.

With talk of Danger , Dunkley , Fyfe , Marshall , Sidebottom , Zorko all being F eligible next season (plus a discounted Heeney) will we even need Forward rookies ?

If he plays more than 7 games he probably doesn't get a discount (based on previous years) but who knows what they will do.

Certainly one worth monitoring though.

Be curious if Buddy & Curnow get a discount.

Brown , Daniher , Patton are possible other cheaper options + JZ.

Patton should be cheaper than Ugle-Hagan.

Come to think of it, was Scott trying to do us all a favour and ensure Danger is forward eligible next season?
If Geelong still has to rely on Dangerfield as their main mid then they are in a lot of trouble.

I guess though since this is a SC forum , I need to stop thinking what makes sense to the actual game and team structure.

i dont know what you mean by that?

danger is probably the best midfielder in the comp
It means like they have publically said the last few seasons they have to move away from Ablett , Dangerfield & Selwood and to achieve their goals as a football team and club it will be up to guys like Duncan , Guthrie , Menegola , Parfitt etc to take over the majority of the midfield.

As good as Danger is/was he also has the advantage of being used as a forward target to assist Hawkins.

Similar to what Freo can do with Fyfe (and Walters) and play them more forward as their young mids develop and take on more responsibilty.

Again this is from a actual football point of view , not necessarily what is best for Super Coach.

Not going to lie, I hate that we are gifted a gun mid/fwd or two every single season. Over the years we've had Swanny, Danger, Fyfe, Dusty, Whitfield, etc. It sucks because they pretty much become an automatic selection. Takes a tiny bit of fun out of the game for me. It's the same reason I don't get excited to see Cripps/Docherty/Grundy etc. score really big - because every man and their dog has them so I gain approximately nothing. I would much rather research and choose 3 or 4 starters out of a real dodgy bunch of 12 or 13 possible top forwards at the start of each season.

I have been banging on for seasons about this , we should be "forced" to pick at least 1 (or 2-3) key position forwards and defenders instead of having 14 mids in our sides.

Also would like to see one Ruck (to reflect more of the real game) to make teams more interesting , I guess then you would probably need more forwards with ruck position as well.

I honestly wouldn't mind any of those changes. Although I do like the challenge that having to choose 2 rucks provides. The R2 position must have cost me 7 or 8 trades in the past two seasons. If we only had one, it would probably just be Gawn and forget, at least for the next 2 or 3 seasons.

Might be interesting trying to choose between English, Draper, Ladhams and TDK in 5 years though.

I just would like it to better reflect the "real" game hence the 1 ruck.

Don't know whether you can go general defender and general forward or if that's getting too advanced/complicated for the casual player.

I guess then the more strategic people could examine ruck draws and swap R1 around.

But if we keep getting gifted mids as forwards then just keep picking them 😀

It would be very interesting, they should trial it in a mini pre-season SC comp 😂

Spot on.

I think there should be more positions to force us to choose key position forwards and defenders and small and general forwards and defenders.

NRL SC has more positions, so don’t see why they can’t do it in AFL too.

Agree.

My general forward wasn't real clear 😀 , small forward would be a good description then similar a small defender.

2-3 key forwards & backs
1-2 small/general forwards & backs
1 ruck

the rest mids

Note to self:

Cover is helpful, and cash gen on the bench is important, but you may be leaving too many dollars on the bench for too long. Some of the very top teams have little, or very weak, cover.
