Adam Treloar asked Collingwood two weeks ago whether the club wanted him and the response he received was emphatic.
No we don’t.
As
reported by foxfooty.com.au at the time, the direct messaging left the midfielder feeling frustrated and hurt.
Further conversations since have left the player even more disillusioned with the club and hurt by their approach.
The Magpies have told him they don’t see him as part of their plans – despite him reaffirming his preference to stay - and would consider paying more than $200,000 of his 2021 salary even if he was at another club.
They’ve also told him he is difficult to coach at times, with no further explanation or clarification.
Former Magpies recruiter Matt Rendell lifted the lid on the brutal conversation while discussing Collingwood’s list management objectives on
Trade Radio.
“My belief is he might have gone to them and asked ‘do you want me?’ Rendell said on Monday.
“And they said ‘no.’ If that is the case, he has a decision to make now.”
The club has been conspicuously quiet on Treloar’s trade situation since the end of the season.
Even president Eddie McGuire has refused to weigh into the narrative around the 27-year-old.
Foxfooty.com.au has reached out to list manager Ned Guy on multiple occasions, with no reply.
It’s understood Collingwood players are aware of the conversation that occurred between Treloar and the club. As are rival teams, which see the situation as a club struggling to cope with a squeezed salary cap.
The initial discussion happened just hours before he was on
AFL 360 discussing his fiance Kim Ravaillion’s impending move to Queensland to play Super Netball.
Sources close to Treloar confirmed by the time he went on
Fox Footy, he had been informed of the club’s preference to trade him.
