Anyone have any theories on why Jacobs fell away so much last season? (Other than because he actually turned into a spud)

Year - Games - Avg
2009 - 4 - 45.25
2010 - 12 - 74.17
2011 - 19 - 92.74
2012 - 21 - 102.10
2013 - 22 - 85.32

He said in an interview about 10 days ago, that his weekly preparation was different in 2013, to 2012. He wants to get back to his "old" preparation next season. I'm also pretty sure he was carrying some sort injury, possibly to the buttock area last season. Two weeks in a row I saw him head to the bench very late in the game, and he looked very ginger sitting down. All might mean nothing, or might mean a lot. I'll let you decide! :)

The crows got smashed by big bodied swans in the 2012 finals and they all got massive before 2013. Big and strong but they didn't focus on the cardio. Jacobs could well have struggled to get to as many contests and do work around the ground due to this. If he improves his fitness and trims down (word is that he has) then hopefully he improves by being involved in more of the Cox style link up through the midfield and just generally gets near the ball more!

This and the crows lost a lot more games last year so less slice of the pie. The crows have a better draw and should improve in 2014. I would expect that Jacobs could return to his 100 average in 2014 but I don't think that will make him a top 2 ruck. He seems a safe durable choice but without the x factor to go big like nic nat, cox etc... I think big sauce will be leaving the big 150+ scores in SC at the crows to Danger and hopefuly Tex :D in 2014

It could be to cover a risk taking R1 or R2 eg. Sandilands
But I think by end of preseason we may have 1 rookie that will play Rd1 that will fill that R3 position

I find that interesting Dimma.

To me having $279k player on the ruck bench seems to be a bit of a waste of cash.

Lock and load ruck combo for me for 2014 home and away, Goldy and someone else of high standings. Last season I went a little wayward on choosing rookie rucks and I came off second best in a lot of league games for doing so, however. The second placement may require some forethought. Minson did extremely well last season but the fact he plays for a bottom of the 8 team leaves me wondering if other teams have already figured out his structure tap outs to the rovers, not hard. Pre-season will tell how this pans out and what has been done to rectify the situation.

Woohoo....first Gold Coast supporter in SCS??
Regarding R2, you could take a punt on Sandilands who is an elite ruckman at a supercheap price. This means that you can use the extra cash elsewhere.
McEvoy and Pyke could have a good year being the No.1 Ruckman in their respective teams.

Welcome Fi Fi. Rucks are causing some of us a bit of grief. If I can do it, Kreuzer and Leuenberger offer the best value combo for me. Be damned if I can do it though.

What's everyone's take on Nathan Vardy?
Given a full preseason, do you think he'll be a breakout player this year?

I'm sure NK will back me up on this, but there is no way in hell I would pick Vardy in Supercoach.

Whilst I really rate him as a footballer and if he plays all season Geelong will be right in the race for flag, he is also no certainty to keep playing as he has some issues with his body that means he career could be over, just like that. He may play 20 plus game and have great season and average 90+ ppg in Supercoach but he also may play no games at all just as easily. The upside picking him just is not worth taking the gamble.

He's only worth considering in draft league games.

Just had a quick read through the whole 16 pages of this thread and while this bloke has rated a few mentions, I think we have to have a better look at Matthew Lobbe.
All ruckman take time to mature to get the big scores.
Lobbe, (now 25) was a first round draft pick in 07, selection no 16.
From round 12 onwards this season, Lobbe was the 4th highest scoring ruckman in the league averaging 35 hit outs per game. He also laid 28 more tackles than any other ruckman from rounds 12 - 23.
He has the no 1 ruck role at Port sewn up so I'm pretty keen on this bloke.
Would like some feedback on Lobbe from some Port supporters but I believe Matthew Lobbe has BREAKOUT SEASON written all over him.

Yeah for sure. A good season from him will see him average 80-85 points. Also doubtful whether he will be doing much rucking with Simpson and McIntosh around so he'll be playing key forward (not a good scoring position).

Don't let Goodies catch you posting about this. He thinks no one else would even consider Lobbe and he has a potential breakout player all to himself :)

Bad luck Goodie's. ha ha.
While Lobbe is a 99% lock, my only query is why he had such a crappy start to the season.
Was he injured, playing tandem with Reddan or any other reasons. Finished the year in great form.
Any idea's OZ ?
