Not sure i will go the Gawndy combo this year. Grundy was average last year and who's to say he will regain the peak of a couple of years ago. Several rucks on the way up and a couple of cheapish R2's.
Lots to ponder on.

These are great stats, thanks. So he's become a better tap ruckman.
Career Hitout stats for R Marshall available here- https://www.afl.com.au/stats/stats-pro#/Discover/CD_I992468/Marshall-Rowan

I haven’t seen enough St Kilda games, enough of Marshall nor am I knowledgable enough to comment about his rucking ability so I will defer to those that do which is why mine will mainly be stats driven.

A quick look at his performance last season and in comparison to the rest of his career could possibly attribute the increase to the inclusion of Ryder and the coaching received by him (who I rate as one of the best tap rucks). Also large decreases in the main rucking categories last season will make the 2020 figures look more appealing when compared to 2019.

Marshall should be able to maintain a HTA between the 28% to 33% range over the coming seasons and is not far off of hitting the age where rucks usually enter their prime (mid to late 20’s). Last season they recorded close to a 50-50 split and I would guess that the split will be close to 65-35 in favour of Marshall in 2021.

I don’t think the numbers quite line up (vs AFL Tables), but Grundy is close. He really hit a wall.

If McEvoy goes back into the ruck, does that make him a viable defender?

PLAYERS THEY CAN REINVENT
As good as he was in defence last year, it’s time to return big man Ben McEvoy to the No. 1 ruck role.

A reinvention of a reinvention, if you like.

Hawthorn’s forward line – once its great strength – is a serious concern next year, especially given Jack Gunston’s late start to the season.

That means Mitch Lewis and Tim O’Brien are going to need to step up.

Losing James Sicily to a knee injury is a blow as it robs Hawthorn of valuable versatility.

We are used to seeing Jarman Impey playing off half back, although he did return from his knee injury in attack late in 2020.

The Hawks should resist the temptation of sending him down back again and make him the Paul Puopolo replacement as the small pressure forward.

Impey will benefit enormously from his five games back in late 2020.
