More just thinking out loud here, but:
Is there any merit for those not keen on Preuss but not keen on the Gawn outlay to start Marshall in the RUC line and swing him down subsequently?
The FWD and DEF lines have some appealing options, actually thought about maybe starting a MID/FWD and MID/DEF premo in the MID line, so it frees up a FWD spot.
Not sure if it ultimately really makes sense, just a thought.
I've spent many a season counselling against this but I think this is the year to break that rule. Historically, there has been better options in the mids at any given price point. This year for example, you'd say that Fyfe, Cripps, Taranto, Heppell (if fit) should outscore their counterparts on other lines. And Goldy will outscore Marshall for similar money. But, once you get past some of those players is gets a bit trickier, especially below $450k. Ultimately you are building a team and if you think the risk/reward is better in other positions do it. I'm looking at starting a M/F and a D/F premo in the mids, but won't be messing around with Marshall's spot, as both Preuss (not blind to the Mummy risk) and Draper I would like to start over many other players.

Do people think the current ownership numbers are accurate?

At first glance I didn't think so but given that you'd think only die-hard supercoaches make a team with Gold / day 1 then perhaps they are.

Interesting nonetheless.

I was wanting to see these numbers but don't have Gold. I would say they are probably right. Cockatoo at #1 is a surprise to me (I likely won't start him unless he has a good pre-season - still going to be an injury risk), also Neale higher than I thought. I had Grundy pencilled in as the number 1 pick.

Yeah there's some really interesting and surprising ones there. Lloyd at 86% is massive and Gawn in more than I would have thought.

Full list below.

Brisbane Lions star recruit Joe Daniher is yet to miss a training session or have his program modified according to coach Chris Fagan, as the former Bomber prepares for his first round one AFL game in three years.
Beset by injury since 2018, Daniher moved to the Lions in the 2020 trade period after eight years and 108 games at Essendon.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Lions coach Chris Fagan said the 26-year-old had been unencumbered so far.

“He’s been training with the group from day one. Hasn’t missed anything at all, hasn’t been modified - he’s training well and seems pretty happy at the moment,” he said.

“I think he was obviously on the mend towards the end of last year. He’s had a good break, no setbacks at all and has done every session. He seems to be enjoying himself and getting on with his teammates.”

Essendon legend and SEN Breakfast co-host Tim Watson said that the Bombers faithful would likely be deflated if Daniher is able to perform at his peak in his first year at the Lions after so much turmoil during his time in the red and black.

“I’ll feel as an Essendon person that we’re extremely disappointed that we didn’t get the best out of him and that we weren’t able to retain him,” he said.

“There’s always that ‘why’ question (why wasn’t he able to perform at his best with us) - if he’s ever going to produce his absolute best on a consistent basis it will be in his first year at the Brisbane Lions, that’s what happens when players get a change of scenery.”

Brisbane’s other high-profile recruit, former top 10 draft pick Nakia Cockatoo, is also tracking well after six years for just 34 games with Geelong.

“He too has done all the training so far,” Fagan said.

“We’ve modified him a little bit because he wasn’t able to do a lot of training before Christmas so he’s been on a gradual build up. Basically he’s doing all the skill sessions.

“You can see why Geelong were very reluctant to let him go - he’s a powerful, clever player.”

It goes against conventional wisdom picking a player that has only played a handful of games and who is priced at almost $500k, but if anyone can replicate Oliver's second season, it's Rowell. Looked like a 150 game player after his first two games.
I agree he looks like a jet but at that price I'm not sure he hurts you if you take a wait and see approach. Short of him going ballistic in the first couple of rounds, his price is unlikely to get out of reach. Looking at the first 4 rounds:

West Coast - stacked midfield, potentially gets more attention after he torched them in round 2 last year?
North - you'd assume a decent score given where the roos are at
Adelaide - showed a stronger preference for a run with role on oppositions best mid in the back half of the year so likely gets clamped a little
Carlton - maybe head to head with Cripps? probably scores well here too

So my thinking is, 2 strong scores (let's say 120) and then two impacted scores (let's say 90) gives him an avg of 105 across the first 4 rounds which should move his price much.. but also doubles the sample size of games we can judge him off. Which is a chance to assess things like how he handles the extra attention, is he getting harder shut down opponents, is he playing worried about the shoulder (less tackles, etc)..

His first 4-5games were as good as any first handful of games I’ve ever seen, and barring injury the kid will undoubtedly be a very special player with a long career.
But the idea of paying out 500k to start him off the back of 5 games and 1 shoulder reconstruction, it’s an emphatic no from me

@Darkie

I think last season you provided me with a simple formula (which I wrote down and have lost) of how much a player had to average to increase in price by $ 150k.

Curious about what Ziebell , Brown & Daniher would need to average to be "considered" successful starting picks.

From memory a player priced at $ 275k needed to average close to 90.
