Williams Hately IMO.

Lloyd and Bolton vs Whitfield and Dunkley
My take is Whifield and Dunkley > Lloyd and Bolton.

Whitfield is a gun and the quarters going back up and interchanges down should fit into his style of play.

Dunkley has some role uncertainty but even playing forward a significant amount last year still scored well. So at worst he is a top 8 forward. The upside is huge though as he has shown he can comfortably sit in the uber premo category if played in the right role. ( Surley the bulldogs want to keep him , so he will get atleast some inside mid time).

Lloyd is also a consistent scorer (he is in my team) as his will hit his 100 week in and out. He is 100k more than any other defender and probaly 10 points overpriced. But he is Mr Consistant. And is almost a lock for the top defender however I dont see it being as clear as it was last year. So its possible to save the 100k and get similar results.

Bolton is a break out contender forward in a year where we have good forward value further down. He hit 100 6 times last year including the finals with 2 of those being round 1 and 2 and didnt end they H&A season well with a 72, 53 and 71.He also plays for Richmond whose players tend to not score well unless they are named Dusty. I could be wrong about him but I dont see him being value at 462,000, and if he is then you will only miss out on 50k or so before you get him.

Rozee Heppell
Or
Marshall e smith/other 123k and under mid rookie
Marshal and Rookie > Rozee and Heppell

But I think it's too early to call on this. If heppell does well on the preseason games and Rozee gets that mid time then it could swing it the other way. Personally I think you need Rozee to become a f6 or Heppell a m8 for it to be worth it and last I heard Heppell was still racing to be fit for round 1.

Harmes and Hately vs Lloyd and a rookie.
Think this one is a genuine preseason watch for the first two names in Harmes and Hately. If their roles include significant midfield minutes then this one may be the goer.

* Provided you are confident enough in Lloyd dropping and being able to get him. **

** Something which I haven’t been able to successfully do the last two seasons. 🙄

Lloyd + Harmes vs Mills + ZWilliams
I think too much has to go right for harmes to be a good pick, and I don't think the ceiling is high enough to justify the gamble. Second one for me. Depending on your goals and the risk profile of the rest of your team, Stewart is a viable safer option to Mills. Though I definitely see the appeal of mills too.

Thanks Stephen, Stewart and Laird locked in the side. Williams has been there and sometime Lloyd/Mills, depending on how the rest of the team is set up.

Harmes whilst attractive price, not sure if he ave 95 that is good enough this year. Williams has injury risk, hoping Gould plays and I can spend the $$ elsewhere.

Merrett v Adams... 🤔
Merret every time for me, despite the price. Has missed only 2 games in 5 years and has averaged 108 in that time. That is super solid. I don't think he'll get 115 again but is as safe a bet as any for 22/105-110 at least.

Adams has played 6 seasons as a "mature" footballer: he's averaged 97 in 4 of them and bounced to 107/109 in two - interestingly those were the only two where he played every game.
Even when he was on a great run last year (13 tons in 17) he still finds a way to throw out stinkers (2 scores of 67). I get the numbers that say he averages more without Treloar but it just feels like everything has to go right for him to get you a 'good' mid premium year (ie. not 110+ outstanding).

Merrett v Adams... 🤔
Depends on the other mids. If you've already got durability exposure, Merrett. If you don't, Adams.

Reasonable expectation is they probably switch averages this year, I really like Merrett but the 115 fits the DT gods scoring irrationally well last year.

Adams numbers without Treloar are pretty compelling. 2018 w/ 86 w/o 108 2020 w/ 102 w/o 116. His durability is mediocre and that feels generous.

Lloyd + Harmes vs Mills + ZWilliams
This one is tough as a lot of moving parts. Mills needs the midfield role, imo, to be worth picking. Williams I like as a player but we have no real idea what his role is and his durability has been ordinary.

Lloyd is probably overpriced but he's a pretty sound bet to be a top 3 defender still.

Harmes is a wildcard, in the right role he can get to the ballpark of keeper levels, he averaged 99 over the last 16 in 2019, but in the wrong role he's been pretty terrible. He basically has to be at the coalface which with Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw and Viney is not an easy sell to me.

I probably like the first pairing more simply because you're getting 1 keeper with a chance of two. The second pairing to me is the kind where you could end up with two non-keepers quite easily. Of course you could also get two keepers or 1 and 1 but it feels the riskier path.

Bolton v Butters (I think at least one of these will be in my team)
Butters.
Touted to have more of a midfield role this year, already outscored Bolton who was almost exclusively a midfielder while Prestia and Edwards weren't playing.
Butters will be getting more CBAs, Bolton will be getting less.

Rozee is more appealing than both of them to me.

Agree with the Butters XvY I think, just love watching Bolton play.
Rozee is interesting with his explosive impact but IMO Butters is the better footballer and could well be a keeper in the forward line.

Fyfe & Impey v Rowell & Heppell?

Added complexity ... will any of them get a full season in?
