Premiums dropping like flies...
I wonder if the compressed fixture and late end to last season is having an impact, as players haven't had that longer rest to ramp up training again?
In 2020 some teams played as many as 13 games in August/September/October. In other years that could be as few as 4 if you didn't make finals.
Considering the compromised AFL season we just had along with canceled comps in VIC & limited/restricted comps elesewhere and the effect that has had on players fitness, add reduced squad sizes..plus the virus is still causing havoc and since another lockdown is not out of the question...

Is reverting back to 20min quarters so soon the smart play ? Time will tell but I reckon 18min quarters would have been a smarter and fairer call under the current circumstances.

Would’ve been a good chance to trial 18mins too.

The fantasy gods are saving me from myself one by one. Every pick I make where I'm questioning why, seems to be getting taken down (and Whitfield!).

Not sure the AFL could afford to offer up such an inferior and compromised product after last year. It was a bad move then (causing considerably more injuries as well) and the game suffered mightily from it, last year was a very low quality product. After begging fans to make donations to the clubs, giving a big FU to two of the power states and sacrificing money to play a GF in QLD and the very low standard of football and horrific management and rule changes over the past few years I think the AFL realised they had to give the fans something that they wanted instead of the broadcasters on this one. They lost a lot of fans last year.

Love Tom Browne, has anyone ever made it further by literally just making up "I've been told..." stories.

Also means Whitfield is certainly back within a month as Browne is Hackdorn level sure to be wrong!
Suggestion? I have one for Tom. Report factual stuff, not rumours and guesses.
So true, maybe he should do surveys instead, how long is Whitfield out for? 1-2, 2-4, 5-8, 9+ weeks.

Yeo has continued his stop-start recovery from osteitis pubis and coach Adam Simpson confirmed on Wednesday the gun onballer was "more unlikely than likely" to face Gold Coast on March 21.

The big-bodied Duggan has been moved into the midfield in the past two weeks in preparation for a call-up and impressed in the role, making him a likely replacement in Yeo's critical role if needed.

Now that is interesting, here are Duggan's scores when moved into the midfield last year when our midfield was decimated :-

Missed 1 game injured (Bye also) & showed real promise. Added some much needed grunt.

Some nice scores there but that 51 sticks out like a sore thumb. Do you recall what happened there?

First game back from injury & they played Brander in the midfield so Duggan played half back. Here was the team line up for that round 13 game :-

EAGLES

B: S.Hurn, T.Barrass, B.Sheppard

HB: L.Duggan, J.McGovern, J.Nelson

C: D.Sheed, L.Shuey, J.Cripps

HF: J.Brander, J.Darling, L.Ryan

F: B.Ah Chee, J.Kennedy, N.Reid

FOLL: N.Naitanui, T.Kelly, A.Gaff

I/C: O.Allen, X.O’Neill, T.Cole, J.Rotham

Thanks for that.

What is the likelihood that Duggan stays in the guts even when Yeo returns?

Or, do you think he will still be a viable pick even if playing in defence?

I'm interested but don't want to be picking him if he cranks out some 90's and 100's in the first few rounds then 70's and 80's thereafter..

This is bit also really interesting a bit further down the article for anyone considering Gaff...................

Frontline midfielders Luke Shuey (calf) and Andrew Gaff (tight quad) have missed recent sessions with minor injuries, however, giving the Eagles the chance to expose more players to the midfield in training.

gaff is 29 this year, shuey 31 and as per my previous post both have pre-season injuries, Yeo has OP. wouldnt be surprised to see Dug's in the middle a lot more this year! With Def status he's high on my watch list as a whitfield replacement

Edit: thinking more about this, we recruited langdon and witherden who can both play the HB role. Personal view is that duggan would be ahead of those 2 for Mid time, while they would be more likely to play HB. I think Dugs is definitely a shot at Top 10 Def this year, and at $448k is not stupidly priced if it goes pear-shaped. if it does go pear-shaped, i will come back and delete this post so no proof exists of the top 10 comment :p
