Yeah this is an excellent point re: Daniher.. but my current thinking is to plan on keeping him in and then if it looks shaky there are easy downgrade options that free up the cash. Could be harder to go the other way...

But what it comes down to is the viable forward rookies. First sign of trouble during the preseason and one easily comes out and Dunkley moves back to the forward line.
I just wonder if many of us are just automatically drawn to Daniher and his starting price and the potential he showed 3-4 seasons ago.

Yes I realise he has a uninterrupted preseason (so far).

I think I calculated he needed to average 75ish to make that "magic" $ 150k profit , so if he suddenly misses a few games that growth stalls.

Which he has achieved once in his career so far.

Understand he & Hipwood are different players , but Hipwood has only over 70 once.

How long will it take for Daniher to get to know the Lions running patterns , players not automatically looking for Hipwood & McStay or Charlie.

Remember reading a article about Lynch where I think he said it took him a good 6-9 months to learn the running plans , gel with Jack , learn how the downfield players preferred to kick with which foot and how far etc etc.

I assume he , Ziebell & Impey would be probably upgraded during the Bye rounds.

I guess it then comes down to a comparison against other forward rookies (or mids if starting a F/M premium) and a lot easier to adjust down.

I think at his price he's worth the risk.. may not get the growth we want but there will always be a downgrade option after the first few weeks so he can be cashed out early if it's not working. Just think the upside of playing forward in a team like the lions justifies the risk, but I do think you need to have contingency plans in place for something like him.

Personally dont think Caldwell is cheap enough to be anything but a starting midfielder, hes already shown he can't score playing other positions on the ground, if its only a rotation type of deal is he any better of a bet than Ziebell,Daniher and Impey who are all 90-150k less?
Yeah agreed, not worth it if he doesn’t get the mid time. Although I already have that trio sitting alongside him haha

Just trying to think who you can compare him price wise on other lines

Maybe Atkins in the mids

Hamill defence (no guarantee best 22) , another $ 50k or so up to Cumming/H Young.

At his price he certainly makes him easier to start , I guess one way or the other he is just 1 trade , either down early if it goes horribly wrong or one up when he has peaked in price.

If he gets stuck between 55-65 maybe a rookie is actually a better starting pick.

Wait and see what options their are , just play some games do we get a idea , this is too frustrating just waiting around.

Amen to your last statement.. can only do so much without proper game data!

Dom Tyson is the one I am keeping an eye on in preseason and if he gets named round 1. Has shown decent scoring in the past but a bit like Daniher on the injury risk.

Did his name come up from Paul Roos during the week when he was talking about his coaching role at NM ?

90+ in 2014 & 2016 seems a long time ago

no games at all last season

does he still play mid though ? NM seem to have more mid options than the Doggies

Reminds me of the other guy they got from the Giants who was all the rage last preseason Bonar , $ 245k defender.

Tore his peck in the preseason last year. Then injured his calf when he was nearing a return.
I think Dumont and Anderson are out with calf injuries atm so may be a spot around.

Speaking of cheap forwards though

Didn't your other Jack perform the other day ? Only $ 257 k as well.
Luv your work Herbie, I haven't looked into how everyone played yet, there's a lot of competition for spots in that high half forward role, don't think he'll get a look in, in an on ball role, due to our news additions. May not get games unfortunately and traded to Essendon with Dow for Zerret? 😆

Come on Professor , we are all relying on you.

The forum is quiet tonight , must be all watching the tennis.

wow Zerrett and where does he for with Cripps , Walsh , Setterfield & Zac Attack ?

Plenty of discussion on forward rookies tonight , we might have too many.

Wish the defence & mid rookies were as clear cut.

Same.. definitely some food for thought!
I actually just took out Daniher for Dusty just to have a look see 😀

Actually if I go cheap @ M7 & 8 , I can Cahill - > Dusty

Dusty , Heeney , ZDI , Kelly or Macrae / Jones , Rowe

actually like that a lot better

Heppell M6 anchor

Laird , Doc , Zac Attack , Duggan in defence + 4 rookies (if they come)
