and just for those playing at home, Fish kicked 10 and the bombers won !
We lived 4 houses down from Paul, grew up with his youngest sister grade 1 to yr11 we called her fish too lol

Their parents owned milkbar opposite our primary school

Woulda been fair 2nd yr rookie in SC, kicked 63g in 12 games leading Coleman before Bruns clash in centre of ground did his knee? I think?

I keep posting on Pies fb pages, tell Cox to get Fish vids and learn something

I was lucky enough to be at the G when Senior kicked 14.7 v the Bombers.

Was amazing how quick he was on the lead and how far ahead of his opponent he was (until he came down the other end and you actually saw what he was doing)

Reckon he gave Kickett 4-5 gut punches on different occassions to gain a "advantage" , while Kickett was still doubled up.

You are right though , forwards and defenders hold , no different to midfielders being held unfairly at the ruck contests around the ground.

Maybe it's time they did have a umpire in the bunker to monitor all this , and just keep paying free kicks until it stops.

You saw God that day 💥💯

G:O.A.T

I was on hols on GC my uncle took me to see Pies,vs Bears the night Daics kicked 13 💕

Need for speed: Lions' new-look engine room to accelerate flag quest
Cam Rayner, Zac Bailey, Lincoln McCarthy and Charlie Cameron will all get more midfield time in 2021

BRISBANE will inject more speed into its midfield this season as it looks to take another step towards a premiership.

Cam Rayner, Zac Bailey, Lincoln McCarthy and Charlie Cameron will all see more time around the contest as Lions coach Chris Fagan tinkers with his high-performing midfield unit.

All four are explosive and agile, capable of taking ground away from the contest with their speed.

Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale and his trusty o***ider Jarryd Lyons form one of the best one-two ball-winning punches in the AFL, but speaking to AFL.com.au, Fagan said his team needed to continue adding variety.

"I feel like we've got plenty of options, we just need to work out how we share the workload and keep power and run in our midfield, which I think is really critical to any AFL team," Fagan said.

Entering their fourth seasons, Rayner and Bailey have taken noticeable jumps.

Bailey is not dissimilar to his captain Dayne Zorko, able to weave in-and-out of traffic without losing speed.

He has played a variety of roles in his 46 games, shifting from half-forward, to half-back to wing.

Cameron is an All-Australian small forward, and the Lions' leading goalkicker the past two seasons, while McCarthy is a fearless brute that has shown in small glimpses he can handle midfield minutes.

Rayner is perhaps the most intriguing, noticeably fitter and able to get to more contests during the pre-season.

"As a No.1 draft pick I don't think he ever worried about defence because he just beat everyone else, so that's what he did," Fagan said.

"He's had to learn that and to his credit he has. Is he perfect at it? No. But is any player in the AFL perfect at defence? No, unless you're a deadset lock-on tagger.

"In our practice games he's played more midfield than forward.

"He has tremendous impact around stoppages and he's a great tackle breaker. I think he's just maturing and learning more about himself every day.

"Probably copped a bit of heat from everybody because he was the first pick and played as a forward, but for us, he's always done his role pretty well.

"The exciting part is if he's going to blossom into more of a midfielder."

With quarters reverting to 20 minutes and rotations dipping to 75 in 2021, coaches will have to get creative with how they rest midfielders.

As part of Brisbane's shuffle of bodies, Neale could spend small portions of games in the back-half.

Fagan said his champion midfielder still had areas for improvement despite his majestic 2020.

"His kicking improved last year but I still think that can go another level," Fagan said.

"His ability to go in one or two other positions so we can be a little less predictable with him, would be another way he could improve.

"I think his leadership and ability to coach on-field is a growth area. It's not that he doesn't do it, he does it, I just think he's got another level to go to with that.

"I can't see why he can't become a Luke Hodge-type out on the field over the next few years. He certainly has the knowledge of the game to do that and the organisational skills and respect of his teammates."

I've been itching to have a reason to think about Rayner and if the practice matches see him blast through the middle with that frame of his he could be something.

But at 390k he is a super awkward price. I don't think he jumps to FWD keeper level this year... maybe low 90s at best which is not quite enough.

Sounds like Zorko might be playing mainly as a forward then seeing he wasn't mentioned.

Yeah that has been the gist in a few of the pre-season articles. Zorko giving up his midfield time as he recovers from injury/gets old: he still had almost 50% CBA attendance last season I think, so there is definitely space to run other people through there if they move him out somewhat.

There's a bit of footage of Bailey getting the ball in midfield in this 3 minute highlight video from the last intra-club if anyone's interested.

Low 90s is probably good enough for F5 this year.

Does this man on the mark rule mean all forwards are in general slightly underpriced?
By slightly I mean 4 to 5%? I.e an extra 3 to 5 points a game?
All the rule changes favours higher scoring so good for forwards vs last year where they were less.

Also helps the fast running types. Expect for my team Liam Ryan and Tim Kelly benefit, maybe a Gaff. Helps seagulls like Luke McDonald and Lloyd maybe too. Bad for interceptors.

It looks likes it means more goals but it's hard to tell how many.
It will be easier to play on, much easier. I suspect like you say that players will play on more and that passing into the corridor will be easier.
It's too early to tell how much it will effect scoring imo but It makes it easier to pick players like Dustin Martin.

Joey looked good.....!
He and Hipwood both took marks on poor Carter Michael who's a first year half back and definitely not any sort of key defender. There were a couple of nice hitouts from Daniher in there though.
Looked like he played on a reserves side 3rd defender. Must still be bad in front of goal because they didn't show his shot on goal till the end.
Supposedly he did kick numerous behinds, but at his price he only needs to get his goal kicking right once or twice to make a bunch of cash.

To be fair, a couple of those marks (more so the ones on the lead) were on Marcus Adams. Which I think for the Lions would be more of a worry in regards to Adams as they probably want him firing this year as support for Andrews, or at least fit and pressing a case to be apart of that backline.

You reckon because kicking efficiency to the fwds will improve under the new rule(s), a team mate can't cover the mark allowing them to get back in position to intercept the next kick or two.....any others ?
