So looks like we’re absolutely stuffed when it comes to cheap rookies in defence.
Gould, Wehr and Laurie didn’t feature for any of their ‘A’ teams. Highmore and Bianco only played the second half.
Looking like Kosi is the only one $123,900 or less who is likely to play but is unlikely to score well..
Did Harry Edwards play a full game?
Hopefully a cheap DEF Lion or Sun plays a full game and shows a bit this afternoon.

None of Wehr, Chugg, Highmore, Gould, Worrell, Jones, Chapman are certainties, but neither is Cox. Between these 7 options, I think at least 2-4 will play round 1. If it's on the lower end, I'd much rather restructure and bring in better rookies in other lines than handcuff myself for a rookie I am not confident in.
The problem with Cox is that, he looks neither like a great cash cow or a reliable defender you can start on field. I can even understand resorting to players more expensive like Young, Perez, Cumming, since they are legitimate scoring options, and is only compromised from a cash generation perspective, not both like it is with Cox.
Just out of interest, do you see Cox as more than a 50-60 rookie that's priced at 175k?

This. I'm trying to be flexible - if the DEF rookies aren't there I'll pick premiums instead and find the rookies elsewhere, rather than locking myself in to players who may not be worth it just because they are cheap. BZT from last year anyone?
If Luke Ryan is out injured, Chapman is a real chance. As is Highmore I think.

Nothing like Brander as a player though. Cox is vastly more athletic (both speed and fitness). Covered the ground outstandingly against the Blues and looked a special talent to me. Wing as a young KPF is actually the best position because his biggest strength of leading marking doesn't get destroyed by being matched against guys as big, strong and fast as he is that are only trying to stop him. He just gets guys who can't go with him in the air.
Brander's bigger problem was he was a fringe 22 guy in a team chasing a flag and fell out of the side, he was scoring just fine until that point.
To me he's much more of a Cale Morton type of fitter and bigger than his opponent and just works relentlessly on the lead. On a team with an immature ruck and a midget midfield that's going to make him a very enticing target for a group of defenders who all kick pretty well.
Personally I disagree on Cox from what I saw. He looks a strong on-field rookie. Looks a 65+ guy who should score ~60 consistently and certainly has a chance to score 90+ with his ability to push forward on mismatches and goal, elite kicking and strong marking and a great role. At basically 60 a week with a 90 in round 3-5 he's going to push the 150k profit by round 8ish which is job done.
The rest of the back rookies are the bigger question for mine. I really liked Harmes' preseason game so will be watching him closely. I think it's definitely looking like a 4 premium backs season which, personally, is just fine given how good the back premiums look.

All the talk on Flynn is he'll be the #1 ruck, so that's a hard yes if he is, especially if they go with Ward as the backup.
Only saw a couple of minutes of that one, so hoping for a replay to confirm it. Even bad ruckmen score 70 generally and Flynn has an incredible midfield to help boost his hitout stats.
If there is no ghost of Mummy lurking I think Flynn would almost force us to not pick one of Gawn or Grundy.
From what I read on the Dockers, Meek might be the one to watch even more and Treacy could actually end up being used in the forwards.
