If we can get Meek looking decent odds at R1 for the Dockers it really opens up the rucks. Really struggling to go with Flynn at R2 if he's naked and would really wedge you into the Grundy/Gawn upgrade early in the season as the exposure is enormous. Everything else about Flynn at R2 stacks up and I might still take all my risk there but it's so hard.
What are your thoughts on Gawn/Grundy , S Martin , Flynn setup ?

I guess then you need one of Neale , Steele , Oliver in the mids as a alternate C/VC option.

Rather just start Flynn to be honest.

I just don't like the Martin pick to be honest. He feels a lot like Mumford the last couple of years. Durability, JS and scoring are all potential issues, I can live with one or even sometimes two of those but all 3 is a hard sell to me.

He may very well be a great pick but he's not one I'll be going for.

I'm locking Gawn at this point. So my decision is one of three... Flynn with a decent looking backup is a lock, Flynn without a backup is a coinflip vs Grundy with Flynn at R3. If a couple of back rookies appear I'll almost certainly go Grundy in place of Lloyd. I almost feel obligated to take Lloyd if taking 5 premium defenders despite really not wanting to.

So far avoiding a tinker until the end of the round.

I think I used 16 trades on my rucks alone last season so I probably should try this Gawn & Grundy approach at least once πŸ˜€

Geez if Meek or even Hunter looked viable for 6-8 rounds and could be used at R3 things would start to look very interesting with Flynn at R2.

Yes wait for the rest of the games to play out and see what looks viable or not.

Their must be a few rookie defenders wanting to appear , geez could be stuffed if we don't even have a playing D7 & D8 for the bench.

ok with the sun out in Melbourne today I can think more clearly. Made more adjustments to my team, no Short for me, but the unheralded Crisp, worked into it nicely last night. fyi I've had him in my team in previous years. Brought in Hayden Young, hopefully locks in a spot at half back. Clark comes back in again. Changed things up forward,, welcome Brockman, Atu and Jezza Cameron, will have a great season. Atu will be playing as a pressure forward and will also link up at half back and through the wing as per Noble the other week. Now only 1 Carlton player in Williams.

wow where is the wonder of Cripps ?

Does Lloyd + Clark + Bank get you 2 x $ 525k premiums ? (Ok let's see Docherty & A Brayshaw maybe ?)

Does Clark play with Higgins & Smith arriving , think Duncan is touch and go for Round 1 ?

Cameron could work out very well , I can't spell that blokes name who left Collingwood to go to North Melbourne.

no Dow , no Impey gives you spare $$$

No Cripps for now, don't like the kick to handball ratio. Changed it up forward because, if we get a couple of injuries from those who are injury prone, they may be hard to replace at those prices, plus I don't like being totally vanilla. 😁 Clark will be playing on a wing with some midfield minutes, just need confirmation from Scott that he's in first, email reply awaits. 😜 Leaving 3 upgrades in defence instead of 5 premiums allows for adjustments elsewhere with some emergency cash as teams are named. Markov, Clark and Young are stepping stones and insurance that they will play. Depending on what occurs I could easily downgrade if they don't make cash for me. I'm trying to select players that have improved roles within their respective teams with expectation that they will show improvement. As we have reduced trades compared to last season, I'm aware that I may not fully upgrade to a premo team, that may not be required.

You are well on the way to winning the competition Professor.

Love the approach , love the explanation/thinking behind your selections.

I can't possibly shuffle anymore premiums or midpricers so have decided my whole preparation now hinges on whether Ling looks like a viable D6 and if so everything will change.

Mind you if Cox doesn't look like a viable starting option , I might just go auto fill instead to start or just pick 22 Collingwood players , might be a lot less stressful (wonder if he realises how much SC pressure he is under)

Don't mind that approach in defence to be honest , so many options for Top10 , locking in 5 from the very start might still end up picking the wrong ones.

Have you thought about being different in the ruck at all ?

Look forward to seeing the next team reveal.

lol Herbie, finished 12k last year, don't think I'm anywhere near top 5k. Just want to improve my ranking, also taking feedback from others onboard, so thanks to you and the SCS Community. Regarding defence, thought it may not be wise to fully upgrade, now with question marks around Williams and Seagull it makes things interesting. Do I take a donut week 1 if no rookies are playing? Could save a trade and have a pod too.

If Lloyd, is absent for a week, he would change value later than the rest.
This might prove beneficial......

Certainly don't follow any of my advice/ideas/thoughts then.if you wish to rank high πŸ˜€

Yes even with all these great contributiors I am sure I will still stiff up my starting side.

Pick my rucks , pick the rookies , complete team

Simple , simple , simple if I follow it.

Surely their must be a hidden gem out their that no one has talked about yet πŸ˜€

I've seen you in action... "Pick THE rucks" would be how you should phrase it ;)

There are always a couple of hidden gems that no one has mentioned! Kind of like there always seems to be a rookie who doesn't play all preseason that appears at round 1.

Most people won't start those hidden gems, just get them in your team early. (y)

lol I probably should not look at any scores then of any other Rucks then just in case πŸ˜€

Surely Flynn , Meek / Hunter works though πŸ˜‰

Imagine the mids you could start

The GC cheap rookie defender ? but then found out he missed because of concussion protocol.

Think the Lions have a couple of hidden gems.

A Giant defender will benefit as well.

An a Freo mid is starting to gain appeal.

A sage piece of advice here
'a rookie who doesn't play all preseason that appears at round 1'. A fair few of them have been great cash cows over recent years and great starting options.
