Think this is me pre-AAMI. If Cox looks playable and reasonable value (65+) and Powell or similarly priced M8 shows up, and we have 3 solidish forward-only rookies to choose from, it's hard to justify the more fun team with Flynn at R2. Think it's precarious though, and only need one of those things to fall away before I wheel in the Flynn Sin team.

Flynn @ R2 is fun 😀 but geez S Martin at R2 opens up a lot of options in the midfield although they are Green , Caldwell , Heppell so they could all work or bust.

Might be me but 5-0-3 doesn't sit right at the moment 3-3-2 is probably frowned upon but looks the only way is losing Gawn.

Like now Danger/Dusty , Heeney + ZDI up forward.

Just need to wait I guess and see what these rookies can score in the Community Series and see which ones look viable to start onfield.

Very nice team btw and actually realistic , expect nothing less though.

No Danger or Seagull , interesting

New version:

D: Lloyd, Laird, Doc, Williams, Cox, Ling (Jones, Koschitzke )
M: Jelly, Fyfe, Parker, Cripps, Green, Dow, Campbell, Powell (Macrae, Gulden, Saunders)
R: Gawn, Grundy (Flynn)
F: Danger, Heeney, Ziebell, Daniher, Impey, Henry (Rowe, Waterman)

I don't love Impey, and realise I've taken a different approach in the midfield.

Very similar side to that in which I am running with pre-AAMI. My Oliver, Ziebell and rookie is essentially your Kelly, Dow, Cox. And should the cards fall Cox’s way as the only DEF rookie, and Dow look unmissable, then I’ve got a similar plan to your setup at this stage. But maybe sacrificing Ryan instead.

Thought I would start off with my final team leading into the pre season

Final Pre Season Team.PNG

D1, Lloyd - Will be the number 1 defender again, paying for the consistent 100's and not having to worry.
D2, Laird - Most likely the number 2 defender when this season is over, he has made that midfield role his own and hasn't moved from my side since opening.
D3, Stewart - Unsure here, Tom Stewart will probably be in my team for many years to come. Super consistent and slightly underpriced due to his injury game of 18. Zac Williams has been the other one that has been in an out of my D3 offers great value at 458k with a great ceiling but his score declines a lot when playing forward. I've been off him since the Jack Martin comments but will be eagerly watching the role he has tonight.

M1, Neale - His AVG v Opp in the first 3 rounds is 87.33, after round 3 his average v opponents is exceptional. I've started him because I do believe it will be very difficult to get him even if he does drop in price, he also provides a great captain option and I'm not 100% sold on a lot of the $620k+ mids.
M2, Oliver - Just start him, he can skip a full pre season and still come out and average 110+ I believe he had very limited pre season at the start of 2019 due to a shoulder operation and still averaged 109 that season.
M3, Kelly - From all reports uninterrupted pre season and exceptionally fit. I think he will have average a career high this season and go very close to winning the Brownlow. The only question mark is how many games does he play?
M4, Fyfe - Not to keen to start him and Jelly, but he can turn it on whenever he wants. Since 2015 Fyfe has had a injury season every second year. I'm on him this season and hopefully he continues that trend of having a healthy season and returns to his best. I'm also considering swapping him for Tom Mitchell if he lines up round one, we all know what he can do especially after last season playing with a dodgy shoulder which he copped in Round 1.
M5, Cripps/Walsh - I've gone with Cripps for now he's cheap and offers a heap of upside, Walsh appears to have an inside mid role now which we seen him score very well in last season and will not cop a tag. 50/50 for me here and I'm a bit stuck with the selection.

R1,2 - Set and forget the rucks, not mucking around with any other combo and having to worry about finding a huge amount of cash to upgrade to them. Granted Gawn will fall in price but I also lose the best Captain option if I don't start him,

F1, Danger - He's been in since day 1 won't be leaving my side especially after Scott has come out and said he will be used mainly in the midfield this year.
F2, Martin - Came into my side yesterday afternoon after reading the Dunkley comments, if Dunkley has his usual inside mid role like he did in 2019 well done to owners brave enough to start him because dunks is absolute pig in the engine room, but who can trust Mr Magnets? not me sadly. I've gone with Martin instead because he will be a top 6, high ownership and wont hurt having him & will average 100.
F3, Impey - Bit light in the forward line this year, he's a watch for me at the moment. Ziebell is the other one I'm considering. Need to see something in the AAMI series to be confident to pick either of these guys.

As long as you can get 4 rookies down back (with 2 startable) I think you are in a very good spot.

Good structure wise, pending my first point, nothing more to be done except wait for PS competition and teams to drop for round 1 :)

Thanks for the thoughts and I am in 100% agreeance
The rookies down back look rather thin, Jones is a gun and would be stiff to miss out Round 1, but who comes out for port?
Gould probably should've played last year but didn't, with Mills going into the guts hopefully Gould can slot in down back.
Highmore on show tonight, hoping for a solid outing but doubt he starts Round 1.
Koschitzke, I'll be honest I know nothing about him and D8 will probably be a floating donut come round 1.

This is where I'm at prior to this weekend's games. Hopefully 1 or 2 defender rookies turn up, but otherwise I don't mind starting 6 Def.
Still hoping Whitfield gets there for Rd 1, but if not will either become Tom Stewart or a mid (if Def rookies arrive).
Either way I can swing Laird into the mids if need be.
Gonna be a task getting in the gun mids during the year, but for mine there are question marks on several of them at their price right now.
Petracca and Dunks are the other two, outside of Whitfield that are most likely to change before round 1

Who are you considering for you mid upgrades when the rookie cull begins.

Would be hoping guys like Neale, Macrae, Steele, etc all drop anywhere from 50-100k each... But yeah it would be tough trying to bring in the cream of the crop.
I just read Whitfield is a certain out for Rd1 (AFL website) so I may have to revert to 5 keepers down back and bolster the mids

Just took a screenshot of where I’m sitting now pre JLT. Just under $80k left to improve a rookie or adjust a premium. Starting with a Fyfe donut for now ... I wonder how long I will last before I have two Fyfe donuts.

Welcome aboard.

This is probably the most POD team I’ve seen. Some I can see a good argument for, others I may have missed something.

A few specific thoughts:

- Many people seem to regard Laird as a lock. I think he’s the Adelaide defender turned midfielder to pick over Brodie. Also helps
make your back line more solid.

- Rowell and especially Cockatoo seem to have injury concerns.

- Stephenson did not seem to get many centre bounce attendances on the weekend, which I suspect significantly reduces his appeal. Most are fielding the likes of Ziebell, Daniher, Impey up forward.

- English is a huge POD and seemingly will share ruck minutes with Stefan Martin - he may go premium (maybe even Uber premium) soon, but you might be a year or two early. Gawn has a good early draw and appears in good form. He’s one most are finding the cash for.

- Flynn at R3 looks a lock if he is the #1 ruck.

- To be honest I’d have to research Tomlinson, Hooker and Edwards to form a view on them as picks. Certainly they are left field. I think there’s a good argument for well chosen left field picks down back, maybe less so in Edwards’ case. Richmond don’t tend to have high scoring midfielders and Edwards is getting old. Maybe if he was forward or def eligible. I reckon someone like Jayden Short could be similarly PODish (if you’re seeking that) and be a decent pick down back.

- It’s a minor point, and you don’t seem overly exposed in terms of injury risk, but if I was starting an injury prone Freo player, I’d go Fyfe over Walters. Alternately J Kelly seems to have had a good preseason and he’s in a similar mould to Fyfe. If you’re taking the injury risk, I reckon you want to get paid for it, and Fyfe/Kelly both offer more of that in my view.

Good luck!
Great reply mate. (y)

Ok after all the tinkering I am sitting on this till after AAMI games.

Really like it overall.

With that 119K remaining, I would looking at going Smith > Impey leaving Campbell as your F6. Rowe being a small fwd (can be the death zone fantasy wise) could post some poor scores especially if the crows have some big losses.
Alternatively, could go Macrae > Neale - being a dogs man, can you really trust Bevo to give him enough quality midfield time with the plethora of gun mids you guys have?

Yeah plenty of room to move but I will wait till post AAMI to choose. Having watched Rowe in the SANFL the last few years it was a love hate relationship. Always dominated against my side but he is an awesome player who doesn't just sit forward.

Thoughts? Just getting up to speed.

Rookie spots are : D: Jones, Koschitcke, M: Macrae, Roman, Davies, R: Finlay, F: Kelly, Rowe.

$440k left to fix up the inevitable holes.

Time to speed read 😀

Cahill at D6 could be our best defence rookie option

Hately in the SANFL trial so doesn't look good , Phillips unlikely for Round 1

Rucks ✓

Rayner & Caldwell interesting

Most are looking at Ziebell , Daniher , Impey and possibly Cahill as the favoured 4
