its interesting because I have found myself fishing in that price range in the forwards a lot due to having spare cash and a gap but not enough to get to dusty or Dunkley.
so it could be a structural thing
Or he’s just popular now on his own right.

With Mitchell & O’Meara not playing the last practice game, he got much more time in the guts than he would normally.
He is certainly tempting at that price but I am happy to wait to see what happens when the hawks have those 2 playing.

From memory the Hawks love to use the ball around the wings; think possession of the ball?
Henderson of 2 years ago did the same thing, but Phillips seems a better runner and user? They also have absolutely no one outside of those 2 mids now that Worpedo has fallen off.
For 400k I think he can average high-90s with them. Also enables me to get Danger in...

With Mitchell & O’Meara not playing the last practice game, he got much more time in the guts than he would normally.

I don't think he needs to be a starting on-baller to score well. He'll probably be in that 2nd rotation of CB attendees but I think he'll get to enough contests around the ground anyway. Reduced rotations should also increase the gametime of endurance freaks like him.

Could be a risky pick but there aren't many safe forward premiums this year (Danger, Dusty and Dunkley aside) so I'm happy to pick him and see what happens. The fact he is so popular offers a bit of protection. If he was in <5% of teams I'd be a bit more cautious.

I read that the Hawks are trying to teach him different roles as he and Mitchell play a very similar game style and it doesn't overlap well ''slightly paraphrasing''

Wouldn't say that's ''fallen off'' but sort of, I guess.

If Titch gets injured first thing I am doing is trading in the Worpedo!

I guess the hype he had and how well he played the previous year to last year seemed to be a decent step back, definitely not forward with another year under his belt; I could be wrong but he definitely didn’t benefit from Titch coming back... In my opinion...
FWIW - Love him as a player and picked him the year before...

Yes. Omeara as well. But Phillips doesn't need to be a full time inside mid to score well. The fact he is considered part of their midfield rotations and Hawthorn like to share should be enough to increase his scoring. He has shown he can rack up big scores. Also his starting price, dual position, fitness with less rotations and the expected low requirements for a forward means he could give you a cheap starting keeper.

Just looking at Josh Treacy's AFL Draft Central profile.

It has his height at 194cm and describes him as having "predominantly played as a tall forward who occasionally pushed further up the ground. With a good o***eason behind him, it was hoped he might play more as an inside midfielder, with his strength, penetrating kick, and size all features of his game."

Absolutely no mention of him playing as a ruck. How the hell did he get ruck status? (not complaining)

I guess that explains why he and Meek are both in contention.

All the initial talk was he was taking Taberner's place yet when Lobb was injured (from what I have read) the options mentioned are :-

* Darcy to play forward , Meek to ruck
* Fyfe to play forward more
* Pearce to go forward

can't recall anything about Treacy being a option in the ruck or supporting ruck at all

Note the comments from Sumich, Treacy a little on the weight side. Ruck status would be due to playing ruck for Bendigo, wouldn't have the size for AFL. Note he is a bottom age player as well.

Freo Longmuir has stated Fyfe will not go any more forward than played, despite the injury to Lobb. Treacy and Darcy will be the forwards with Darcy replace Meek as back up ruck. Does Meek rest forward or have time off.

Also is Darcy forward as his fitness is down, under done due to lack of effort or because Meek is the better ruckman.

They have also said they may use Logue forward as the replacement for Lobb.

Expect Fyfe has the licence to split between mid and forward depending on game situation each week.

Agree with this.

Phillips has a season averaging 90ppg behind a midfield of Pendlebury, Treloar, Sidebottom and Adams. So in comparison an injury prone JOM, an injury prone Wingard, a young gun in Worpel and a potentially underdone Titch hardly stacks up against the aforementioned.

I'm pretty confident in using that 2018 formline and assuming his best is better than 90ppg with more opportunities and also with the rule changes suiting his style of play.

After being fairly confident a few weeks ago that Ziebell would be my F1 , I now find him at F4 behind Dunkley , Dusty & Zorko.

Looks like the rookies are falling in the forward line but hoping the better JS of Ziebell & Daniher result in better scores.

The fact that he was average in the trail games and still gets a start has me thinking his role is secure.?

Any Carlton Supporters, will he be given time to develop into the role.?
