Jones named is a good sign, happier to pick him compared to some of the other forward options. Mid rookies look like being my biggest concern now, could do with one more decent option there.
Think 9 have been announced so far (hard to keep up)

Dow * , Campbell * , O'Brien , Bruhn , Jordon , Brockman * , Gulden , McNeil , Scott *

Fill your bench , then work backwards

No sense of adventure 😀

Didn't think you would go 3 rookie Rucks but thought maybe 2.

I actually think the interesting one will be see how many people pay for Cox in defence and possibly Butts as well to help restructure or waiting on Jones & Highmore.

King ended up being a good rookie last year.
Jones strikes me as more of a developing key forward who will take some time to get going, I'd be shocked if he has a season like Max King last year. I think most would put Ben King on another level talent wise to Jones, and he's only managed 41 and 55 in his first two seasons (admittedly that's playing for GC).

I agree. Harrison Jones is definitely a level above Ben King 😂

...then have 4-5 non playing rookies in a week or two. That's the big issue with a lot of them.
Simple don't pick any of them , you should have a massive advantage with your MPM completion

Plenty of players in that $ 200-300k range that probably have better JS and will make more $$$ than most of the rookies.

Just pick the best 8 for your bench and then balance the rest of your side out with consistent , value players.

Simpkin , JOM , Rowell , Taranto , LDU etc could all score close to these $ 600k+ mids

Didn't @Wheedus say you only need players averaging 103 ish for the season.

But you are right , we all need/want rookies for our starting sides/structures but now question the ones named about their JS even before they have played a game.

Certainly is a big worry. Especially when you factor in that a number of the Vic rookies didn’t play footy last year so could be eased into it by their respective clubs.
I’ve got two rookie rucks at the moment but for the first time this preseason I’m looking at what a 3 rookie ruck structure looks like to sure up the other lines.
Definitely have more confidence in Clark, H Young and even Dow vs the Sharp, Jordan, Mcneale types. Someone tell me I’m crazy lol

Gawn & Grundy = $ 1.4 million
10 x $ 500k players = $ 5 million
10 x $ 250k players = $ 2.5 million
Bench = $ 1 million

Why do we need rookies onfield ? 🤔
Don't worry, I have thought of teams without rookies, and have one prepared I sort of like, but a bit of a hybrid between the two might end up being the way to go.

I’ve got Dow and Clark in a Gawndy setup
The rookie rucks have their own JS issues

Those highlights packages in isolation are always a bit misleading. You come away thinking he dominated! Having said that, we recruited him for a reason and he has a role to play this year. Kid loves a grab. He'll probably get most of his SC from contested marks. If he can roam up the ground a bit / hit the logos and get involved in linkage he'll add to his score. I'd be budgeting for 50s and not starting him but he's the type of player that you can stick the E on when Essendon play early in the round and he might kick a bag for a big score. I'm not saying he's Max King but the comparison is apt.

I think when I was doing my MPM or Lock N Load team yesterday and thought they both actually looked a lot better than my GnR team , just need to sacrifice the high priced mids but it actually gives a very solid all round team.

Outside of Campbell it's hard to see too many other onfield rookies going 50-60 apart from the ruck options.

Yep. Average 103 from each position on your field for the whole year. 80+ from rookies and MPs prior to upgrades.
One of the most intriguing interesting posts I have read on here in many years.

Certainly makes you think about trying to get a more consistent starting team instead of necessarily trying to start all the ultra guns.

Just need to get that balance right from the start and upgrade ASAP to make up "lost" points early.

I think Tom Powell is a real chance, scored 57 points on reduced game time against the Hawks in the practice game, averaged 157 last season

Surely he gets picked....:-

waiting , waiting , waiting for his annoucement

how much mid time is he getting at North though with people querying Tyson.

Anderson , Cunnington , Davies-Uniacke , Dumont , Simpkin , Tyson etc etc

can't remember which one is injured/expected to miss off the top of my head

does Powell get "lost" on a flank ?

massive step up from SANFL U18's

I'm inclined to pick Cahill - partially because he actually looks like he has a decent role. Not going to say he smashes it but of the rookies with limited ownership he appeals on the basis he could nailed a game or two, grow as a player and become an onfield option pretty quickly.

Are Bombers fan picking him or simply taking Jones?
