Oliver handled the O'Connor tag very well last week scoring 130 - I was worried after what De Boer did to him the previous week & what O'Connor did to Neale but Clarry found a way. Didn't see the game myself so interested if the dees had some tactics they used in preparing for O'Connor tagging him (like players blocking O'Connor etc) which they can use in the future if other teams try to tag Oliver.
I think we're overrating O'Connor a bit, he beat a banged up Neale but got a lot of help from his teammates who were targeting Neale pretty much the whole game.

I think people are trading because they believe that soft receiver role he has had is over. I mean, do they really want him in that role with zero defensive pressure? Wouldn't surprise me if he comes back and plays forward. It's going to be interesting for the holders.
Was it 50% of the game he played fwd? Last time I recall it happened was in the final rnd of last season where Bevo was trying to get sth out of him as he was bogged down by a hard tag.

Not sure we have enough info personally from one half or so of a game that he has lost a role he has had and excelled in for 2-3 seasons.

Better defenders have emerged in their backline, specifically Bailey Williams who can defend and also rebound.

Hoping that Worpel runs with him this week, he totally shut down Brayshaw last round.
It's possible. Either way, he should have at least one more price drop. I think O'Connor was tagging Oliver for at least a while last week, yet Oliver still scored 130.
He’ll probably go to him. But the thing I loved last week about Oliver which was blatantly obvious to those able to watch him at the ground. Was that he just worked his arse off right from the first bounce, and all throughout the game. You could tell he knew he was getting O’Connor after De Boer went to him the week before, and O’Connor went to Mitchell the week before. And he just took O’Connor to the cleaners, simple as that. His running patterns and how he just burnt O’Connor was really pleasing to see as an Oliver owner if there’s going to be some attention going forward. Another year under his belt and a bit more maturity it seems for Clarry, that first half against GWS was hopefully the only major blip in his season.

Williams emerged in 2020 iirc
More so this season. Williams, Duryea and Dale have been quick, direct and predictable with their ball movement which I think has really benefited their talls. Sometimes simpler is better than having Daniel or Witherden or Suckling hitting high degree of difficulty kicks that look great on a highlight video but don't always come off and aren't always the most team first play.

Daniel situation is quite easy , sit him in the centre square and he becomes the lateral/45 distributor or if he doesn't kick he just handballs to the outlet.

Similar to when Sam Mitchell sat between the arcs and distributed by hand , let Daniel use his foot skills , still think 35-40m precision kicking is a lot more effective than kicking long to a 50/50 contest the majority of the time.

Most teams kick long , turn it over and it is just a circle work game on repeat.

Be amazing if some coaches actually created/used some different tactics.

Open up the game and use the space , quick precision diagonal ball movement is the key.

Unfortunately most teams don't have enough players with above average kicking skills.

Would love to see the Hawthorn team of years gone by playing today , absolute elite kicking skills.

Very smart footballer , smart coach , I am sure he (they) will adapt.

You're probably right but also Bulldogs especially the last few rounds have not overpossessed the football as they have been reknowned to do, they have been playing more direct and faster style of footy out of their backline. Daniel might be a precise kick but he isn't the biggest kick, they get more distance from the other rebounders. I think this was the main reason Daniel didn't get much of the ball last round, the Dogs were moving the ball very rapidly out of their backline to catch the Brisbane backline off guard.

For me not to trade him this week I'd need Bucks to come out and say DeGoey will be taking all Adams mid minutes and is fired up and ready to prove himself
The guy looks capable sometimes, but tends to put himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. In my position if he doesn't work out I would have to take him down to Mini Macrae if he proves himself as a solid mid option.

A lot of poor kick to him I50 doesn’t help either. He has the R14 bye which means he can be a warm body until you trade him to another forward premo who’s already had his bye. That’s the reason why I’m looking to keep him anyway.

Just got to hope he lifts his scoring a little

True. Was expecting a higher mid ratio for him but I guess Elliot going down forced him more fwd. Do you see a rise coming for his mid minutes with Adams down?
I don't have Impey, so it's hard to not go there when he is still cheaper and scoring the way he is.
Pies do have a few easier games coming up after the Eagles though, so could see DeGoey finding form there

You’d think Bucks might look to mix things up a bit, which could easily include De Goey playing more mid time, will probably get a good idea once we see the changes tonight. De Goey I think has a few big games in him where he kicks a bag that will bring his average up.

Impey is a good option if you think he stays at this level, personally I don’t think he will and is too expensive to make cash so will have to let him go.

Yeah might be a bit of FOMO on my part with Impey. Can't imagine DeGoey will drop in price too much more now so can probably wait and see
