Trying to get two strong premiums out of Dunkley and Cox/Gulden. Looks like I'm going to have to go a quasi-premo in a Heeney/May type. Or go one up one down and then double up next week... but there are no downgrades appealing strongly to me this week.

Best I can likely do is Heeney and Houston. Both have 150 odd BEs. Still not entirely sold on Heeney, and I probably want Zorko, Butters and Dusty so I'd be forgoing one of them if I was to get Heeney.

Could also go Zorko and May, but I've already got Ridley, Stewart, Laird, Mills and (for the meantime) Cumming. Want Houston next week but that would be my 7th defender including Cumming...

Eventually want to grab Lloyd for Cumming, which would mean 7 proper premo defenders in my team. Reckon I could keep Laird at M8 without leaking points?

Sorry for the explosion of thoughts. These are the things I'm tangling with.
Would you be able to post your side and remaining salary pre trades, to assist us in making any suggestions?

Wow you're really bullish on Farrar huh?

Do you know if he plays lock down KPD as suggested on fanfooty? And why was his DT:SC ratio so poor from last game?
He's playing as a 3rd/4th tall. It's more that he's played two excellent games and really looks to have cemented a few bad games worth in the team, be incredibly rough if he got dropped after one bad game given his last two, especially his clinic on Heeney who he beat soundly and is one of the best mid sized forwards in the league.

Last game he suffered from lock down defender who scored once the game was over, unfortunately there are no points for smashing your man and stopping him, Hibberd copped the same thing despite being just about the best player on the field for Melbourne with the way he pulled Dusty's pants down. Farrar got some cheap touches late.

My biggest fear on Farrar though is he did too well in the lockdown gig on Heeney and is probably going to get stuck in that role now and less rebound. The positive is he's a very good runner and looks a very good kick. Physically he reminds me of Nathan Wilson in his running/kicking.

Honestly don't think there is much between Atu and Farrar, they're essentially the same thing to me, even the teams are playing similar high possession styles in defense. I think Robertson has more explosive scoring capability but his JS in a really strong team is going to be a lot shakier, as evidenced by already having been dropped. Macrae right now offers a cheaper price but has to date shown the worst job security, role and scoring potential of the 4, that 50k+ really needs to have some genuine utility for him to be the stronger pick or some strong indicator he's going to have a different role.

Very similar spot to me with Flynn at R2. I'm likely to continue without Gawn so long as Flynn is named solo ruck, any funny buggers with Mumford/Briggs into the side and that's me done. Dunkley will become Gawn, and Campbell to Farrar.

You're not tempted to plug Marshall in as a stop gap until a possible lower score from Gawn? (Wishful thinking I know).

If Flynn is named, I can afford Campbell/Dunkley to Zorko/Sidey but I'm really struggling to wrap my head around Sidey's prospects from here in such a bad side...
Zero interest in Marshall right now. With the two injuries he's had this year and Ryder to return I want to wait a solid month on him, that he has zero value in the byes as cover for Gawn and Grundy adds to the no rush factor. Saints have looked terrible so far so need to see how he's going to go as a forward assuming Ryder rucks. Injury, role and scoring concerns is way too many red flags given it's Gawn I'd be taking on. Much rather find a bargain forward/back/mid later if I run out of cash with Gawn than be stuck without Gawn.

He looked good but he's a young KPF in a mediocre side and his great score is going to be in the mix for a week. He's a textbook zero reason to rush into him this week. There were like 2 decent other rookies last week so not like there is a flood of targets that would force you to go early on him.

Any thoughts on ditching Dusty this week and buying him back cheaper in a few weeks?

(24 trades with 16 keepers and 6 rookies to upgrade - bye structure is set up too)
Two trades to generate like 50k is horrible economics. Unless you somehow don't have any of Chapman, Neale, Dunkley, Gulden, Campbell, Warner, Sharp and Waterman who make far more sense to be trading it just seems very wasteful and even if you don't have any of them and everything is perfect, it just seems wasteful.

Okay, I read it as Atu will score more than Farrar and
Atu has better job security than Robertson and Macrae.
So Atu looks like being my trade in then.

I think Laird would be a good M8 - decent scoring and the added flexibility - hoping to do that myself. I also prefer Zorko to Heeney by a fair bit and, if your going to get Houston in anyway, I like the May pick too.

Irrespective of the other reasons Marshall might not be an upgrade target (which are clearly valid) I don't think Ryder is one of them. Marshall actually averaged higher with Ryder in the team last year. And Ryder had 272 HO to Marshalls 247.

Hmm don't know about Laird M8 long term.
Sure, he might average 105 which is probably only a few points lower than a pure mid M8 (105-110 type), but it means you are playing a D6 who would otherwise be benched.

Now if you've got absolute top line defenders that could be a 100 player but I'll hedge and say its more likely 95. So perhaps leaking 15 points a week over 8 mids and Laird in DEF?

Massive difference between being stuck forward predominantly in a good side and being stuck forward in a rubbish side and St Kilda, barring that quarter and a half against WC, have been a rubbish side so far, they probably just played their worst game of the season as well so the trend is in the wrong direction. They had three midfielders who could kick and of those one literally subbed himself out last week and sooked after playing one of the worst games you'll see in a month of awful games, one is so injured he's playing forward pocket and the other is getting overwhelmend by being the last man standing while the spuds rack up worthless touches.

I love Marshall but in a team playing that poorly I really want to see where his role settles in. To be fair though, that's by far the secondary reason I want to wait, both of his injuries are stress/returning type injuries that can cause big ongoing concerns and that's only magnified by his size. He puts together a good solid month and he's at the top of my target board. I don't have the spare trades at this point to be taking those early risks.

Very true! I was just putting it out there.

I think i will bench dusty and maybe sell Chapman and Gulden and bring in Steele/Zorko! (Robertson & Sideshow Bob are possible considerations too).

It all depends on team announcements 🙄

Dunkley + Rowe -> Heeney + Z Williams (via Sharp and Scott)

Don't like it, but get 2 who I would have considered keepers at the start of the season for 1 gun + 1 upgraded rookie, so I can only hope that Willams and Heeney live up to previous expectations

edit: Gets Rowe and N. Cox off the field

Absolutely shocking week for me. Dunkley gone, I'll have to eat the massive loss from holding Neale AND I've got Dusty, my "upgrade" from last week, contributing a 30 plus I'm not sure how many weeks out o_O It would've been great to get some info on that foot issue last week. I'm also still stuck with Zac Bailey who I'll probably have to hope gets a scoring bump in Neale's absence.

I'm fairly set on Dunkley to Grundy, unfortunately no cash in the bank means Neale to a rookie, a "premium" forward, or an M8 type I don't really want because I already have the useless spudaranto locked into that M8-11 range. At this stage Neale down to Farrar or Bosenavulagi looks most likely, I can bring in a premium mid for Gulden next week if he struggles again. I am a bit apprehensive about that trade though, both are expensive and far from guaranteed to make enough cash. I've already got plenty of likely non contributing rookies in Highmore, Sharp, Treacy and Mansell.

Sorry Connoisseur! This is not the first time you have asked for my full team so that the community can best advise me. You'd think I'd smarten up :ROFLMAO:

My full team is below, $500 left in the bank

Wow you're in a really good spot when it comes to quality of premiums and cash generation. Think you can continue targetting top end premiums instead of going for those bargain/pseudo premiums I'm looking at (Heeney, May, etc.)

Great position, well done 👍

I would definitely be getting this guy in if were you :-

CHRISTIAN PETRACCA $598,300 MID

Has looked fantastic the last 2 weeks & could go on a massive run - Dees’ next four games are against North Melbourne, Sydney, Carlton and Adelaide.

2nd trade is difficult, I would be tempted by Deven Robertson 225 fwd/mid with Neale out.

Scored 97 last week, highly talented young WA mid who was a ball magnet in his junior career.

The way the season is going if you have a m8 averaging 105 you are probably making points over most. With all the carnage every week who is gona have the trades and funds for a 120 point M8

Yeah, somewhat tempted by Petrock for my 2nd trade. Means Gulden goes. Petrock role know , getting more CBA’s recent weeks, Bont with some question marks of impact of Dunkley out.

Hard call whether to upgrade to him or chase DevR or others like Atu or Ferrari. Just not convinced on Dev role with others coming in this week and vs Carlton last week with 2 goals. Listening to wogtalia, positive on the Ferrari, however lockdown and scored late just throws up questions at those prices.

Really dislike R7 trades as we now think we know players roles, scoring habits.

Ok, i have settled on 2 trade options this week.

1 - Dunkley/Flynn out, Gawn and 164k for a mid or fwd. Already have Grundy. Don't like any of the rooks in this price range atm. Mcrae - is a no for me, thinking going sight unseen on Poulter. still need to trade Neale next week to any mid premo.

2 - Dunkley/Neale out for Petracca and a Guthrie, Walsh, Duncan type.
Means no Gawn for a few weeks until i can scrape up the funds.

Fwd line is a mess, so we wont go there, doing the Ostrich on that line !

Advice welcomed !

Personally I’m in a similar boat (I don’t have Grundy but have Gawn) and I would say let Flynn’s availability help you

If he’s not playing go with Option 1. But perhaps worth considering DPP Laird & getting Fredrick a week early? I, like you don’t really like any of the <123k rookies (aside from Fred). Also worth noting that if you have a shot to pick up Gawn / a 730k player, do it. He looks dominant and Melb only look like they’re going to get better

2. Option 2 is just as viable but the no Gawn situation might be problematic - imho having Gawn > Petracca & Walsh/Duncan/Guthrie so would personally take Option 1
