It's been a tough year on the Rookie front...

Of the current T20 money earners at the conclusion of R12, only 8 are Rookie who were available to be selected at R1 and Poulter who debut in R7.

Ziebell (1), Impey (5), Daniher (11), Heppell (14), Cummings (16) & Hind (20) were more than useful MP selections to help bridge the gap, most would've done well to start any 4 combination from that group.

Hickey (2), B Dale (6) & Parish (8) have surprised many thus far and still represent great POD factor at 8%, 5% and 6% ownership respectively.

Personally, I only started Ziebell from that first group and have since added Impey & B Dale to my team.

He's got a BE of -84, and if he hits his projected 79 he'll jump about $72k. Would you still grab him for $200k?
It's a really odd move. His price doesn't really matter because you're not trading him back out at this point, nevermind if you get him in a couple of weeks. So the only reason to get him is for the season long cover, his score this week and to free up the cash from another player which I'd argue is the more important part so it just doesn't make sense to not get him this week.

I can't think of any reason, his bye included, that you wouldn't get him this week if you're getting him as this is the only week he, hopefully, actually plays for you and that 70k is far more valuable than his cover over another rookie cover.

Pretty keen to get a good look at Bianco, if he stays injury free I think he'll be worth picking up in a couple of weeks all things going well.

NTs post was on the 27th May.

So I assume he was referring to ‘a couple of weeks’ being this week while now on the bubble.

So unless you need to fill the 18, waiting a week on Newcombe should be alright, no?
Freo boys, Worrall (finally 😍) etc. all on the bye next week, i.e. no logjam expected, correct?
If you're making it next week for a non-playing guy, may as well go this week and get an extra score in the byes.

Otherwise may as well wait until next week.

It's disappointing we didn't get more debutants from Gold Coast, Geelong, GWS, Hawthorn, North or Port this week.

I need to make 2 rookie downgrades next week (Newcombe is one hopefully), so I will probably need to go early on an unsighted debutant now.

Says a lot about Connor Downie that Jai gets a game straight away and Connor can't even get a proper game.
Not really sure it says too much about Downie. What Downie (when able to actually play VFL) is producing, is pretty much exactly what I expected, and where I expected he’d be at. The hype and immediate expectations on him were raised tenfold based off a good 10-15 mins (which it certainly was) against the Bulldogs in that practice match. Realistically, he would’ve been nowhere near debuting round one if we had all our cattle on the park. The exact same goes for Brockman really.

It is a testament to Jai though, he’s physically more developed than any of our draftees last year, produced dominant performances at VFL level so far this year, and if he was on our actual list earlier, no doubt would’ve played AFL football already, which was something Clarko even said yesterday I think in the presser.

But yeah, I think there needs to be some patience with Downie, and a lot of other draftees from last year, particularly the Victorians after last year was wiped out. God, I see on the socials plenty of people blowing up at NTH for taking Phillips. If these people had actually watched Phillips play before, they’d know his bottom age performances at under 18’s level late in that 2019 season were matching and arguably better than what top agers Rowell and Anderson were doing in the same side.

Thanks GG.

I was also referring to how most of us rated Downie from such little sample size rather than a criticism towards the young man. No doubt we'll give him time to develop.

Still think its sad he has debuted... but not

Yep agreed on all points.

Yep, I still find it bizarre and stupid that unused subs still get a game for not actually playing. It quite annoys me actually.
