Agar's a steal at 103K (maybe even lower if he gets an injury discount from last season). I wonder if he may also find his way into the Aus A squad though. His shield numbers from last season before injury were very useful (14 wickets from 4 matches and he made a 100 too).
Yep hopefully they just use Swepson in the A game.

What's your thoughts on a possible "A" team given you follow the Shield a lot more than me , I guess bit hard to get a read until the domestic season starts , but using the Squad selected for SA as a possible guide :-

Harris

?
Head/Henriques
?
Carey (wk)
Abbott
Neser
Pattinson
Swepson

Puts a bit of an end to wanting to get a thunder bat as a cash cow. Even more so if another batsman is signed as the third international.

Top 7 roughly:

Hales
Khawaja
Davies
Billings
Ross
Cutting
Sams

I honestly don’t see Gilkes or Holt getting many games unless injuries or internationals leave.
Jos Buttler doesn't tour and everything changes again.

Hopefully Davies gets a extended run at it @ # 3.

It's a great question. Do we have a known date for the Aus A game? I'm assuming it's between the Afghanistan test and the start of the Ashes. So if it's a 3 day game, probably Dec 3rd to Dec 5th. All going well, that leaves 5 rounds of Sheffield Shield matches to decide the Aus A squad.

Also, if the A game were to finish on Dec 5th, is it possible players from some franchises (maybe Hobart and Perth that don't play until Dec 8th) will make it back for the start of the BBL anyway? I think last season we saw some players make it back the next day.

I'd also expect this Aus A squad to be smaller than last season, as they played two games last season. Based on last season's Shield numbers, to add a few names to the one's you listed above:

Josh Inglis: About 600 runs (average 73). Might depend on whether they need a back up keeper for Carey.
Jake Doran: Over 600 runs (average 43). Got better and better throughout the season. Will be 25 years old. Better off in a 14 man Aus A squad than not making the XI for the Hurricanes.
Henry Hunt: Over 600 runs (average 45). Very similar development to Doran. 24 years old. Could open alongside Harris.
Ashton Agar: He was in last year's Aus A squad but missed out with injury. Really good Shield numbers before he got injured.
Brendan Doggett: 22 wickets from only 6 matches.
Cameron Gannon: 24 wickets from 8 matches. Was the Shield's leading wicket taker in the 2019/2020 season.
Will Sutherland / Jack Wildermuth: Both are an option for an extra all rounder spot.

Appreciate the insights.

Plenty of bowlers and all rounders then , be good to see how Doran & Hunt follow up this shield season.

McDermott (and Wildermuth) from memory scored 💯 last season in the A game so they might get rewarded again with selection.

Hoping Maddinson gets some early Shield runs.

Inglis batting seems on par with Carey's

Inglis batting at first class level seems better than Carey's
McDermott and Wildermuth were both very late call up's to the Aus A squad last season. Both made their way back into my BBL10 team at higher prices than I had first selected them at.

Inglis had a great season but it could have been even better. WA had Whiteman, Bancroft, S Marsh, Green, Turner and Agar batting above Inglis for the first part of the season. Inglis didn't always get a bat.

I'd be keen to tackle the main test XI before even trying to speculate the Aus A team!

That's a great top 7. I wonder if Gilkes may get some games ahead of Ross though. Ross played 8 matches last season and was the (unused) x-factor for many other matches. Maybe that's a role Ross/Gilkes share throughout BBL11.
Gilkes Ross and Holt probably fighting for that #5 spot all season. Couldn't pick any. Also pressure on Davies if he's not performing

The number 5 batting spot doesn't usually make enough runs to justify a speculative bench selection. Hopefully there are a couple of cheap options in top 3 spots that we can utilise instead.
