A thread for all GOLF Discussion.

Discussion of tournaments, course recommendations and technique.

One of the world's most popular pastimes and hardest games.

Get it right and it's glorious. Get it wrong and it feels like the game spelt backwards.

I've been watching the Scotish Open, and not unusually, the American PGA tour golfers are struggling with the links style golf.

However, I'm seeing across the board the short approach shots are mostly lofted clubs and very few of the low, bump and runs.

It seems to be a lost skill or attitude, against the wind conditions and undulating courses.

Hopefully, they are adjusting this week and will use it more next week at The Open.

Commenter: He's getting the full lnks experience.

:D

Mising putts isn't the fun watch, because we all do this. The poor shots out of the rough, the bad chips (i.e. I should have bunt and run) and bad choice off the tee, definitely resonates.

Most of the PGA Tour players are just not used to those conditions, most courses in the U.S are resort style with nice spinny greens, the Scottish Open is great for Scotland but it's really only 4 practice rounds for the Open and how great is it that it's at St Andrews once again. I don't do PGA Fantasy but I'd pick Schauffele for the Open, he's in great form, Shane Lowery must be a chance too.

I had a hit yesterday and hadn't played for a few months so was feeling a bit out of sync. Struggled early finding direction with the Driver and started playing some military golf, left right left right.
My first go to tip I usually use when I'm finding it difficult to make good contact or start spraying them all over the places is....just shorten your swing, with all clubs.
Second thing I'll do if I'm still wayward with the big dog is, put it away and tee off with the 3 wood. I hit it almost as far and mostly straight and high off about a one inch tee, hardly ever lets me down and saves some serious time scrounging around in the rough looking for lost drives.
Doing something as simple as that, swallowing the pride a bit and just teeing off with the 3 can restore confidence and make the round a lot more enjoyable.
P.S Once I tried an experiment and tee'd off on the whole 18 with nothing more than the 5 iron, ended up shooting an 85, makes a big difference when most tee shots are on the fairway.

Xander ruined this

In terms of bump n run versus lob, green speed and pin position are key course defence

impromptu has made a statement today that gambling posts are no longer permissible on this website. His site his rules.

I've amended the OP to reflect the new rule.

Hey All,

Going forward, please do not post any 'gambling related' posts on SCS unless the MODS and I decide to create a 'punting' dedicated thread.

Hey Members who have posted gambling stuff on SCS,

Don't stress, no issues that you've posted gambling stuff before as I may have just not made it clear from the start.

However, going forward no more posting about gambling stuff (unless the MODS and I decide to create a 'punting' dedicated thread).

Remember we do have teenagers and school aged kids on SCS hence I'm reluctant to even have a thread.

PS: If a member inadvertently post a gambling posts even after this post; please don't get angry at them. The member may not have seen this post; just send them a link to this post and say FYI.
