I don't see him getting back to a 110 avg player, due to health and/or team role. He could be that Luke Parker 105 player who you don't start but bring in at the byes because he is consistent at a good price to finish off the season. Steps up through injuries to other players and goes 115+ for a 4-6 week period.

Ideally, he would become the Greenwood Mid/Fwd type when he was at Adelaide.

What’s everyone thoughts on nic Naitanui for a pod? Played 22 games last year surely plays more minutes this year as well…
Do not expect more minutes. West Coast have learnt how to manage him to get the most benefit for the team, and therefore the player. If he stays healthy, you can reasonably expect the same.

Do you think grundy has more upside?
Grundy has shown that he has a higher ceiling. That ceiling does rely on him being a link through the midfield.

The question is will he return to having that role?

The answer lies within these questions:
  • Were the last two seasons affected by his struggles to Covid protocols/hubs/etc?
  • Has the game plan/game style changed to the extent that Rucks aren't as involved through the midfield?
  • Was there an unknown injury limiting his ability to be more involved?
Collingwood are paying him plenty, so they will certainly be trying to get their value out of the contract.

His TOG was 68%, you would need to go back to 2014/15 for when he did better, at 73% and 75%. Dean Cox was playing 2014 and NN use to rest more forward then. That was prior to 2 ACL's as well.

Would you choose him as a pod. Is he to risky?

No from me mate. Nicnat is definitely one of my favourite players to watch, however end of the day we potentially have 3 guys who could go 120+ in the ruck this year. Nicnat doesn't feel like a starting pick, not from a safe durable point of view. Gawn, Grundy, Darcy are pretty safe for top 3 IMO

I saw someone state De Goey is back at the pies and looks real fit a few comments prior to this one. Is this legit?
I put a line through him after letting loose in the U.S. - if he is playing Rd 1 I'm picking him

I didn’t think he was training with them. We would of read about it by now.

Every season people say pick dunks but he not always going to stay on the park for a full season
If he was purely a mid I wouldn’t go near him but as a fwd/mid his upside is huge. Can easily ave 115-120, 15 points per round higher than the next best fwd. worth the risk in my opinion
If he gets a full preseason of training will be key for me.

Whilst he is not on my list, I wouldn't say no either. Had a lift on 2020 which everyone thought he would revert given the longer quarters. As he progressed from his two ACL's, Eagles have more confidence in his body hence the longer minutes played on the ground. In particular he had
92, 93, 100 minutes in the last three games, whereas he had lots of 70's and 80 min games earlier on. May be the issue is they will only let him off the leash when the season is on the line.

Age is a bit of factor they worries me and whilst many may point to Dean Cox doing well in his 30's, NN is a big boy which can strain his body.

See below why I wouldn't count him out totally. Can say in league finals Ai was worried about playing someone with NN when I had Grundy.

Gawn - look at CBA in the finals, 59 and 62% when he had 70s and 80% earlier in the season. yes, he had some 60's and one 62%, yes he can still do well, however, the risk everyone is raised with Luke getting better is genuine, just hard to price the impact. wouldn't surprise me if Gawn regressed 5-10 pts this year, although, have more faith in him than Grundy.

Grundy - terrible end to season, mental issues, has now lost kgs and hopefully no more lockdowns. New coach. lots of variables.

Darcy - looks the best of the lot, young and still progressing, although has more injury issue tags than Gawn and Grundy.

Dont think rucks is a easy decision this year. Was plenty of risk on the rookies last year if you went them R2, this year it is the premiums it feels like.

I saw a comment also from a player saying JDG has come back in great shape, although, no confirmation he is training with the group that I can see.
