Although NRL related, I highly recommend listening to the last 10 minutes on discussion about the overused injury prone tag. Far too often this is the default term used in the fantasy lexicon for a player recording multiple injuries over the span of one or a few seasons and in which the usage is usually unsuitable.

Also, nice advice about considerations to be made when selecting players returning from an ACL (earlier in the episode) along with an increased recurrence rate if the player is returning from a second ACL injury.

PORT Adelaide forwards Charlie Dixon and Orazio Fantasia have had their pre-seasons interrupted after suffering injury issues over summer.

The pair will consult with surgeons in the coming weeks about respective ankle and knee issues.

Dixon tore ligaments in his left ankle after landing awkwardly on a teammate's foot during a marking contest at training on Friday.

The 31-year-old will be in a moonboot in the short-term but it is unclear how long he will be on the sidelines for or whether he will have to undergo surgery.

Fantasia has recovered from surgery on his left knee but is having ongoing issues with his right one and will consult his surgeon to consider the best course of action.

Just thinking with Ladhams no longer at the Power & now Dixon injured, this could open the door for Sam Hayes to get games early on as Lycett's backup - a potential playing R3.

Great news for my keeper league as my only other contracted rucks (bar S Hayes) are currently B Williams and K Strachan. If coaches want to use a loophole for the opening rounds, then I would prefer to use it at M11.

Sounds promising for a Port rookie to come in for Fantasia atleast.

Might just use Finlayson as the second ruck and play him , Georgiadis & Marshall together.

Sun faces four months out after shoulder surgery

GOLD Coast will be without midfielder Jack Bowes for up to four months after he underwent shoulder surgery this week.

Bowes suffered the injury after attempting to tackle Matt Rowell in a training drill.

The 24-year-old is expected to be back somewhere between rounds four and eight of the season.

It's not only a big blow for Bowes, but the Suns, as they plan to integrate the former No.10 draft pick into their midfield in 2022.

Following the off-season departures of Hugh Greenwood (North Melbourne) and Will Brodie (Fremantle), Bowes had trained all pre-season in the middle of the ground.

It is hoped he can join a midfield mix that already includes Touk Miller, Rowell, Noah Anderson and Brayden Fiorini.

Bowes has played 78 games in five seasons, spending the past few years stationed at half-back, sometimes as the third tall defender.

His injury puts a small dint into a strong pre-season for Gold Coast that continued at its Carrara headquarters on Friday.

In humid conditions interspersed with showers of rain, the Suns completed a three-hour training session that included two 10-minute halves of match simulation.

Rowell was ultra-impressive on-ball, clean with his hands and showing a burst of power he lacked in the second half of 2021 after returning from knee surgery.

Lachie Weller and young wingman Jeremy Sharp also impressed with their run-and-carry, while Ben King kicked three goals.

Last season's best and fairest runner-up Wil Powell was one of a small group of players to miss the match simulation, instead completing a series of 150m reps around the boundary line.

Powell has recently returned from concussion protocols after a pre-Christmas incident and will be back into full contact next week

PORT ADELAIDE forward Charlie Dixon has had surgery on his left ankle but is still expected to push to play in Round 1.

Dixon tore ligaments in his left ankle after landing awkwardly during a marking contest late last month.

Despite significant improvement in the ankle as the swelling subsided, the decision was made for Dixon to undergo surgery to tighten the ligaments.

The 31-year-old travelled interstate to undergo the procedure because of the current ban on elective surgery in South Australia.

The surgery went well and Dixon is expected to remain in contention to face Brisbane at the Gabba to open the club’s 2022 AFL season.

Something to monitor, if Dixon isn't ready for round 1 & Ladhams now at Sydney, opens the door for Hayes (123K) to partner Lycett in the ruck to start the season.
