Just looking over any other rookie options & came across Jed McEntee :-
$123,900 fwd/mid - Had a mid/fwd role v Adelaide and had 13 touches with 7 contested. Kicked 1.1 and had 2 clearances.
Scored 58 SC from 80% TOG.
Apparently Tom Rockcliff yesterday said he plays round 1 ...
He looks solid, would be playing in Fantasia's spot who is out for a while. Still, it's small forward (at least in a decent side) so it's not ideal and I think the JS is going to be somewhere in the bad to terrible range.
Looking at Port's best 22:
B: DBJ Clurey* Jonas
HB: Burton Aliir Bonner
C: Amon Wines Houston
HF: Boak Marshall Rozee
F: Gray Dixon# Finlayson
R: Lycett Butters Drew
Int from:
Georgiades - Think he's in regardless but probably for Dixon for now.
Duursma - I'm not sure he's safe but expect he's there, Sinn's pathway is through him primarily.
L. Jones - Think he's in right now, was very good in the preseason.
Motlop - Option 1 for this spot.
SPP - Option 2 for this spot.
McEntee - Option 3 for this spot.
Sinn - Option 4, but think he has to push out Jones/Duursma personally.
Mead - Option 5.
Frederick - Option 6, again with Jones in this case I think more than for this spot.
Bergman - Option 7, not sure where he's at, probably Duursma/Jones again.
D. Williams - Option 8, seems behind the others though.
Mayes/Dumont - Think they're the break in case of emergency guys, but also options and Mayes was used preseason in that role also.
#Dixon is injured, so I'd expect Georgiades starts and we move to two bench spots available.
*Clurey is in a battle with McKenzie and Skinner that he's leading.
So basically I think there are ~2 openings (assuming Gray is right for round 1, otherwise that's a really strong fool's gold third opening) and, personally, I'd think Motlop and SPP should be ahead for them if fit, maybe a 3rd if Jones is at threat.
Basically I think Mead is right on the edge of the side but given that and a poor role, I'm hoping I'm not considering him for my side
