Defenders
Premiums: Lloyd, Crisp, Ridley & Short have all been locked in for obvious reasons. Lloyd and Crisp and both consistent and reliable - set and forget type picks. I like Ridley as a player and can see him taking the next step this season and as for Short I can only see him benefiting from the departure of Houli.
Rookies: Uhhhh, this is where things get interesting. I've tried and tried to figure out how I can put a team together without Hinge but he keeps finding a way back in. The way I see it, his body only has to remain in-tact until DPP-changes come in and Daicos can swing down back to cover but that is a big if. Between Gibcus, Wanganeen-Milera and Sinn I am hoping somebody can get on the park and have a consistent run at it. I'm not sold on Chapman or Hewett so am trying to avoid bringing either of those two in. Have contemplated going 5 premiums and brining Whitfield in but don't want to compromise anywhere else.

Midfielders
Premiums: Macrae has been locked in from the get go. Have been tossing between Miller and Steele but after the pre-season games locked in Miller - he just works harder than any other player out there, it's incredible to watch. Brayshaw in as a bit of a POD - I like him a lot - also contemplated Kelly but think Brayshaw is the safer bet. Neale - lock.
Mid-pricers: Berry in as a value pick - have played around with dropping him down to Stephens (who I think with his current role could be played as on-field rookie) and banking the cash elsewhere.
Rookies:JHF, Daicos and Ward all must haves in my book. Rachele in the midfield as a swing for Brodie or Naish - just provides more flexibility. O'Driscoll a placeholder will change when teams are announced but like having the DEF-MID DPP with Sinn.

Rucks
Premiums: Fairly stock standard, Gawn and Grundy not asking any questions here just locking them both in for a big season.

Forwards
Premiums: Dunkley looked too good to ignore - leaving him out is too big of a risk when he sits in 57% of teams.
Mid-pricers: I've gone high-risk high-reward here, I just couldn't help myself..Cogs a lock, McGovern looked great - slightly concerned about the body, particularly when he sat out Q4 in the pre-season game but it's a risk I am willing to take with the new role providing great value (can always swing Rachele forward and on-field). If Brodie remains in the guts and Xerri claims #1 ruck they both have tremendous upside potential - certainly a few question marks but have them in there for now.
Rookies: Rolling the dice with Naish, 58 SC from 38 TOG, open to being talked out of this one but I think he looks good and with injuries mounting at the Eagles I can see him getting some serious minutes. Baldwin and Martin placeholders but seem likely. View attachment 40694
Bradshaw to Rowell would allow Xerri to say Heeney or Treloar removing one risk from your team and likely saving one upgrade during the season

I suspect the game we're all playing with our back six is hanging on for grim death and getting any scores we can on the board until we reach round 6 where we can hopefully shift players like McGovern, Daicos, JHF, etc to help fill rookie holes in other lines.
Round 7 even , it's funny though we move JHF & Daicos from the mids , who are we then replacing them with ? a mid bench rookie or a upgrade (still trying to work it out myself)

$422k in the bank, thoughts on how to spend it? Could in theory bring in 2x 600k midfielders for Cripps and Rowell, but feels like such a huge loss in value.
Left field idea,

Stephens > Andrew Brayshaw (nice POD/Unique) which strengthens your midfield - Brayshaw is a player I have been looking at, could go to another level this year.

Thanks for the tip.

I think I was one of the first people to openly advocate Brayshaw on this forum a month or two ago, but have since gone cold on him as a starting choice, mainly due to the rise of Brodie.

With that being said, I do like the idea of going Stephens > premium midfielder, with Petracca and Parish at the top of my list.

Over lunch, I have been tinkering with my side - see if I could reduce the risk.

Old team :-

Revised team :-

In the revised team, I have dropped :-

Lloyd/Hinge/Sinn/Cripps/Stephens/W Kelly

for

Ridley/Sicily/Gibcus/Soligo/McGovern/Durdin

Rachele from fwd line starter to mid bench, Ward onto the field.

Whist Cripps did look great, just wondering if would be wiser to take another premium defender/seems a waste having Ward on the bench.

Would really appreciate views on this (y)

You don't think Martin is one of the best rookie bench options this year? 102k forward with decent JS and decent scoring, we love these basement priced rookies that can make 150k right?
Is he though? I have questions on his JS, probably behind a couple of others, of course if he's named then yeah.

@Shannon

I for one like the changes, I'm guessing your cash remaining is pretty low?

Ideally I would probably only make 1 change that would be Rachelle to FWD and Durdin to Stephens.

I like the only one 'rookie' down back, would prefer 4 plus Hinge and McCartin but, think at this stage there are too many ???'s on Hinge.

My only other comment, would be to have a bail-out plan for McGoven in case he goes down early, maybe that's why I prefer Rachelle on the FWD bench and yes I know that's a lot of cash on the bench.

If the rookies don't come down back I think this is where I will head towards.

Cheers @Deeman1

Ideally, would love Stephens on the mid bench, Rachele on the fwd bench over Durdin but yes cash is low.

If Ken confirms Sinn is playing then I might get close to my ideal line up.

Pretty happy with my set up now. My main worry is fwd line bench and lack of salary for movement/correctional trades.
If/when we get no rookies named who would you suggest being my downgrade. At the moment, it's probably Crisp - Ridley or Dunkley - DeGoey.
Or am I better off dropping someone like Naish down to Durdin?

Don't love any of these options, but need an escape plan for when things go tits up.

My mid is just about a carbon copy of your old team. I think Ward on field and another Def premo looks more balanced, but assuming Lloyd and Crisp (or a Hall or bolter) or Pendles, Merrett etc after round 6 are up the pointy end of defenders, will you have room for them? That's my main reason for only going 4 deep in def and hoping to scrape through with the appalling rookie selection down back.

O'Driscoll is the designated loophole to start, with the lack of defensive options I'll gamble that he'll make his way into the side early on.

Hinge out over shoulder concerns.

Marshall is a gamble that he'll get forward status after R6 if Ryder comes back early enough.

Thoughts welcome.

Nice overall but I worry with no cash & the low cost players.

Any thoughts of dropping Stewart for Whitfield?

Don't think O'Driscoll plays round 1, Naish I am not sold on/ don't think Dixon will score very well - Darling out for a few weeks but they may even play Waterman as the 2nd key fwd/ Bailey Williams the other factor. Durdin would be a good call for fwd bench cover.
