Strategy 2022: Round 2 Trades

I’m just pointing out it could have been a nightmare for Rowell owners if Rioli had KO’ed him & concussion protocols kicking in ruling him out for R2 etc

I’m honestly baffled he didn’t cop a head knock.. huge hit

I was cursing and searching for an OUT for him as soon as I saw the first replay of that hit, I had feared more than just the concussion though.

Next thing, he's got up and jogged to the next contest at continued to do Rowell's things. He was massive in the last part of the game which ultimately broke the game open for his team.

Still a little 'nervous' whether that hit would've any delayed effects so will be following closely.

Might have to use trade assist to work out what to do with Owens. Already have Rachele and Martin, and Hough and MacDonald didn't exactly scream to be picked...

Otherwise I'm not looking to trade. Got concerns, but Brodie and Xerri did enough. Crisp and Whitfield will come good. I loved Jiath's game so that could be an option for someone looking for a defensive POD...

I must admit - I am a bit scared of the trade boost. Another thing to get wrong!

Trades have gone from 20 to 35, we've been given extra trades last couple of seasons and who doesn't want a 'new & shiny' toy to play with. It's the modern way to SC'ing so 'Just Do...!'

Thinking Ward to Rachele this week as I need to get him in and Ward is the only real underperforming rookie. If Berry doesn’t get up maybe go up to Lipinski or McDonald, Next week will make a decision on Crisp and Whitfield if they don’t come good, trade in targets could be Hall or Hewett.

Ward had a better role than Rachele, reckon that ones has got regret written all over it. Has to be a better way to do it and I'd give another week regardless.

Rachele kicked 5 goals, at home against one of the weaker sides in the comp (especially when missing Darcy, Fyfe and Taberner). I really rate him but that's the anomaly game, not the norm.

And that is the reason why so many teams look the same, back in the day if you didn’t start Rowell it would be a big call to trade him in, now just do it. Has ruined the game imo. Maybe 25 trades. I also bet they leave it at 35 next year.

For everyone feeling a bit bummed about some of their premium selections (I know I am!) I thought I'd share something that hopefully helps give some perspective.

Here is the 2021 top 30 (by average) and what they scored in rounds 1, 2, & 3, plus how much scores below 100 they had.

Note: I've set the bar at a level that feels about "disappointing", and that is subjective. Petracca with 98 points might have stung, but no one would realistically been considering trading him off that.

The main things I want to call out are:
1. 4 of the top 10 had an average round one, and 9 of the top 30.
2. All 9 of the poor first round scores rebounded in round 2
3. The average scores <100 for the top 10 is 4.4 - so between 4-5 games that are poor and heartbreaking (unless you're Macrae who is a freak!)

This is nothing technical and certainly no guarantees for this year.. but a poor score mid season surrounded by 100+ scores feels a lot different than when it happens in round 1, so don't be disheartened and don't rage trade those premiums! Last thing you want is to compound the pain by having to get them back because they are scoring well..

And before anyone says it, I know there are positional, injury, role, etc factors that can influence these numbers, and there are probably a number of reverse examples where poor scoring continued. Just hoping this gives a little hope to the downhearted coaches out there!

I maybe wrong but I thought Langford getting injured early meant that Martin got much of his wing/half fwd role which he played extremely well - getting the ball in the back half quite a few times then running forward to receive. I don't think Stringer/Francis getting back in the side effects him much at all, it is Baldwin that would be the one that makes way. He runs to the right positions & reads the play well, I can see him making much money early on but your call ...

That was the 3rd game in a row Martin has played well (including the practice games) & Truck made comments about how well he played. The bombers as a team were very poor on the weekend, Martin was the clear shining light. Think he plays many games early on myself.

Maybe more of a "premium" adjustment this week, eg a Treloar > Heeney or Crisp > Hall/Docherty based on having now seen their real world performance?

Big test for Davies this weekend , looked ok second half against the Eagle depleted midfield. Ward to Davies is achievable.
